Contest Duality of Motherhood

Yes, it is important to explore the whole of a relationship. Still dulled by the death of my mom...it is real, like yesterday...unreal. She was real!  I miss her every day and I am thankful that she (is) was my mom.

I Got Her motherhood is fraught with mistakes hanging from her charm bracelet hourglass wrist; anchor was hooked she’s silent as I longed for her to erupt I needed her warm ear, not judgment one thing I did wrong; not the worst much later she stabbed me with her kiss those lips left a saturated wound; grab chest I was brave; I handed her the tray of hurt oh how quickly, blinking tears, she apologized I hang that memory on my high school bracelet I tuck it away to reuse when I ostracize progeny air punches like exhales, soft hands, soft heart must lay out my cards - she was better than the rest some moms are rabid, some too friendly I found my mom just right; her sayings wrong she advises me, “There’s more fish in the boat.” I lay down the ace, “Yes, Mom, and they’re all dead.” she’d fall upstairs, get blood poisoning, eventually cancer, loved her soaps, got news from the tabloids - I got her!

Interesting write about your mom who has left this life for a world far better, but that doesn't take away the sting of the loss. Mine passed 27 years ago and I still miss her, but the pain is not as bad now. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and emotions with us. Sara K

Yesterday…it seems, whether 4 or 27 years ago. But that blessed day that we get to see our family, the euphoria will carry us through all eternity!

Thank you, Silent! We can only get used to living with the loss. It keeps popping up that it is almost Mother’s Day…Mom died shortly before, in mid April 4 years ago.

Dear Kim, Yes so well inked, the complexity and tenderness of a real mother-daughter bond-the longing, the flaws, the forgiveness, the humor, and the deep gratitude that lingers after loss. Oh, how memories sharp and soft, shape us and how love persists beyond absence. Like so many powerful poems about mothers and daughters, your words honor the imperfect, enduring connection that makes us who we are. I am remembering my mom. Happy Mother's Day, Kim! Daniel

Yep, overworked and under appreciated. Her 25 hour days often gone unappreciated. The hero who quietly mended all us, with hot soup and a hug when needed. Mother's day should be everyday. Well said.

Speaking of fish: Once knew a fellow camper who slept with his mouth wide open. We called him 'Deadfish.' Handsome when he awakened... Nice tribute, Kim.

Oh this is so nice how you showed her to be. So very real and special to you despite any wrongdoing. I would do this one but I can't express well with free verse

I tread lightly with this one, dear Kim. It's beautiful. "she advises me, “There’s more fish in the boat.” I lay down the ace, “Yes, Mom, and they’re all dead.”- So much runs through my mind, I say, may you both know rest. <3s dear Kim
