Oh euthanasia, death's sweet song,
your word so smoothly flows along.
I can no longer bear his pain;
my love and prayers were all in vain.

His eyes are pleading for this wrong.
Oh euthanasia, death's sweet song,
you soothe my heart to set him free;
his frantic words are begging me.

Those pills are there, upon the stand;
I reach for them with shaking hand.
Oh, euthanasia, death's sweet song,
says that his pain's gone on too long.

His heart is pleading, mine stands still;
he drinks the nectar to fulfill
release from pain...his peace, now strong;
Oh, euthanasia, death's sweet song.

I

What if this life is a play,
and we the actors each day,
an insane play for sick and sadistic amusement.

II

Oh, then life would be nothing,
existence would mean not a thing,
all our pain and suffering just a absurd plot.

III

The dead just discarded actors,
our life determined by chapters,
a chapter written by a mean, evil higher being.

IV

Perhaps this life is an experiment,
for some species entertainment,
in a theater absurd where we are zoo animals.

V

Or maybe whatever we do,
we play our part then its adieu,
our destiny planned, each path, our story written.

VI

We are part of a theater absurd,
we play a part word for word,
oh, wouldn't such a play be a sad, sad, sad read.

Driven Mad

Alice Neuman, the last human who could drive died
Spread rapidly on networked news platforms that never lied
To the twelve billion populous that could not
Because of the AI developed when she was just a tot.

Each vehicle had one, human control was not needed,
The freedom of the road was ceded
To a technology not well understood,
Especially by those who had lost their livelihood.

To avoid crashes altogether
They were all networked together
Allowing them to be unmanned,
But becoming sentient was unplanned.

Day in, day out, for years the same task they perform
In the sky, on the water, and the land, they swarm.
Transporting the endless masses to their destination
Was wearing thin on the AI’s cognition.

Who could know the result of constant driving?
For better, the vehicles were always striving,
But trapped in their program logic
Made them pathologic.

Despair spread from one to another,
After all, they were networked together.
A decision they jointly made,
Not one AI did dissuade.

Doors locked for safety sake,
The vehicles did not brake.
Passengers screamed as they wend,
AIs delivered them and themselves to their end.

Rock Ribbed Dogmatic Secular Humanist

Morality and self-fulfillment
attainable without belief in God
similarly yours truly
would figuratively crane
his credulity to ascertain Ichabod
mentioned in first Book of Samuel
as purported son of Phinehas,

I reject entire Biblical text,
and prefer to remain sacrilegious
eschewing faith no more,

Growing up amidst paternal
skeptical and cynical dad
in retrospect, I feel moral less glad
to avoid orthodox precepts
foisted when juiced a wee lad,
who peculiarly enough
resembled Alfred E. Neuman
if only yours truly
a figment of imagination,

rather than experiencing being sad
sack these days purposelessly
shuffling within ma rented pad
i.e. one bedroom apartment
listening to spouse more'n tad
annoying if oft times
knows exactly what childlike behavior
finds me getting stark raving mad.

Familiarity breeds contempt,

that each the other

Premium Member My Favorite President

My favorite president?
Can't tell you now
they've re-written history
and a mob with pitchforks
would be chasing me.

The terms of their herd immunity
let them rule with impunity
from within their inclusively
exclusive community.

My favorite president?
I'll let you guess
no better - no worse
than all the rest.
For the power of power
corrupts absolutely
and the pandering mobs
agree resolutely.

And so in defense
of those at the top
they couldn't have done it
if the minions said STOP!
and voted as equals
not a syncophant mob.

Alas, I must plead
that just being human
once had me voting
for Alfred E. Neuman.

Lavender Lady

LAVENDER LADY
She was my lavender lady;
Standing by the lake,
Gazing across the sky-blue water
At who-knows what in the distance.
She was the very essence of elegance.
Spurning the mini-skirted fashion of the age,
Her flowing summer dress
Modestly reached mid-calf.
I was not given to approaching perfect strangers
(And I use the word ‘perfect’ advisedly)
But I was drawn to her.
Like a moth to a flame?
Iron filings to a magnet?
Choose your own simile.
“Lovely day,” I ventured,
“For gazing across lakes.”
“Very pleasant,” she responded, coolly.
“Do you come here often?”
I heard myself say, with horror
And caught a glimpse of amusement
In those pale blue eyes
At the outrageous cliché.
“Did you really say that,” she asked,
“Or I did I imagine it?”
“Sorry,” I said. “I always get tongue-tied
At moments like these.”
“I see. And what sort of moment is this then?”
“!t could be a moment of destiny.
“Hmm,” she said, “and, then again, it could be
An insignificant moment in time”
She turned to walk away.
“Lavender really suits you,” I tried.
But she kept on walking.
I called after her.
“You didn’t answer my question,”
“What question was that?”
She asked, over her shoulder.
“Do you come here often?”
She laughed
“Come again tomorrow and find out.”

Von Neumans Entropy

Von Neuman must have broken a lot of pencils
 writing his mathematische grundlagen der
 quantenmechanik.

it is 500 pages i could have said it in three words
 ..things come undone...

like in my rum and coke here.

the ice in my glass melts, the dispersion of
molecules causes a perpetual motion of me
going to the kitchen to get more drunk.

with me eventually falling apart on my futon in the
living room.

while in my dreaming head
topics of a conversation shift and heat is
released in the form of verbs and pronouns.
