Should it be a poet's duty
To write solely about beauty?

A POET’S DUTY by BETH EVANS

ANSWER ON A BED OF NAILS

let me answer the quixotic brioche —
we all need a delicate pinch;
brachial bruising a warning

all the flowery talk dispels the magnitude
of cancer, the carbuncle of abuse,
the horrific salutations of the nazi regime

we march alone but also as a world
arm in arm, armed with insecticide
words like ants; a bench’s rash

a hose in diffusion’s spray
may try to paint the sky
in shades of love’s foray

turn it off; let flow subside
take a better look —
heart on a bed of nails

war of words; a twisting sword
let truth be the blood
that scores

because a poet can also whitewash
with parrots
mimic...mimic...mimicking

seek your bellyache
examine, test, squander
all its savings

let cavalry of water fall
soaking wet
with poet’s ink

Nine Inch Nails, Ten Pins and the Purl Stitch

"Nine Inch Nails, Ten Pins and the Purl Stitch"

She takes the cake
they offer, chewing too rapidly,
she Shrews when she speaks
I’ll beat warpath drums, she says,
no mistake

I’m a groper ... goody two shoes
she says

mouth wide open
songs problematic
she's done and she's gone
a stitch loose in the weave
drop one pearl one

dropped
gone

for kissing small bait in the shallows
she circles her quarry
bites their backs
she sits astride
the legs of a hot gripping story

sits like a monkey
begging for peanuts
she spits in comments
I'm thoroughly congruent
in moments of questionable torrent

I am all here
dear boy
dear girl
knit one
drop one pearl hooray

I am all here, here hearing
all seeing, all knowing
I throw it back
and I’ll give you
the crux of the crutch

all knowing
make no mistake.

my good god
I don’t care
I don’t care
do we care?
I don’t care.

truly I eat their sour pears,
place more wax in my ears
she throws pearls
decorously adorning
the minds of sows’ rears

left wing molting
a mouth full of feathers
right wing feeding them
she’s all knowing
bling bling bling bling

bling bling
bowling ball glowing

Ten pins

preparing minds
sharp needles
and yarns

Purl Stitch
knit one,
drop one
knit one
drop one

win

We're so sorry, uncle Albert
But we haven't done a bloody thing all day

We're so sorry, uncle Albert
But the kettle's on the boil
And we're so easily called away

Hands across the water, water
Heads across the sky
Hands across the water, water
Heads across the sky

"Sit by my side, and let the world slip: we shall ne'er be younger."

"There's small choice in wrotten apples".

"If I be waspish, best beware my sting.”

I Saw A Man Today

I saw a Man today as he walked the hill
Tears and drops of blood did equal spill
From brutally torn flesh and eyes of pain
I saw a Man today my inadequate refrain

I saw a Man today unjustly convicted
His trial was short and clearly scripted
The verdict assured without any proof
I saw a Man today who spoke only truth

I saw a Man today abandoned by friends
Who claimed to be strangers by pretends
Before the cock crowed denying Him thrice
I saw a Man today and words cannot suffice

On a hill called the skull I saw a Man today
‘Father, forgive them’, is what I heard Him say
Through nails and a crown of thorns grace He sought
I saw a Man today the world’s debt He bought

For I saw a Man today more innocent than me
Take up my sentence while I just walked free
He bore the crucifixion cross in my place
I saw a Man today, I looked upon His face

I saw a Man today and He saw into my heart
And took away the darkness and gave me a new start
He broke the chains that bound tighter than the jail
I saw a Man today whose blood tore the veil

I saw a Man today and He died upon that cross
Sacrificed for me and all the world’s lost
He could have called a heavenly army
But I saw a Man today who chose to die for me

Three days past I saw that Man die upon the beam
A death that changed my path it would so seem
And now before His empty tomb an angel doth stand
Why seek you in this place of death The Living Man?

Sunset, before dark ... you broke your promise
Forging a Japanese sushi knife ready for attack
Days which is controlled by negative conventional thinking
It does not work to knock on every door when you fall
Fear and suffering, human threat is not necessarily death

When the wind blows, hungry wolves respond
But the wolf shall not be killed with a lie or broken promises

In the dark a shadow of a face of misery
It makes me doubt what you're thinking
When bitterness becomes your best friend
The black sun is an overwhelming image
Like the ocean in the storm with foam of transparent suffering
No one has the right to kill "in the name of religion"

Spare Nails and a Hammer

Your mother always yelled at your father to fix the nail protruding from the kitchen floor.
“It’s going to hurt someone someday,” she would bicker,
but your father hid his face behind his newspaper as she spoke.

The nail remained sticking up from the ground,
but you taught yourself how to walk around it
just like you taught yourself when to exit and enter the room.
Your mother’s heavy voice was like a fire alarm
telling you to evacuate the scene and leave your father in the flames,
but there was nowhere for anyone to go---
he forgot to build a fire escape.

She tried to leave hints for him around the house:
A hammer on his pillow,
spare nails in his pockets,
but naturally his fingers picked around them
like playing a guitar.
She had given him all the notes,
but he preferred to play his own tune.

Eventually she had given up on shouting,
for she was tired of hearing only her echo.
Each couldn’t feel the other.
He could not hear her words that dropped like stones,
she could not hear his weightless language of silence,
and you could not speak in a house enclosed with two deaf parents.

One day you came home and saw that your mother’s side of the bed was made nicely
like it hadn’t been slept in for days.
It was cold and stiff, preserved like a shrine.
That same day you went into the kitchen to reach for the phone,
but tripped over the nail emerging from the floor
and went clattering down beside it.

The Cross-Jesus Chose the Nails-Out of His Love For Us

Today.. a stranger gave to me
5inch Nail..
Representing.. the Nail
Like the ones Jesus had on the Cross

Jesus Blood Shed.. Was Real
By His Wounds.. We are Healed

The Nails.. didn't hold Him to the Cross
It Was... His LOVE for me and You

Christ could have called any given time..
for His-Angels--even 10,000,000 Angels

To Release His agony.. Set Him Free
But.. He Chose-Out of His Love for You and Me

Jesus chose to die on Cross.. the Day of Calvary
For Us.. whom are Loss.. Saving Our Souls-

So.. We can be Born-again-made Whole
Receive Grace.. Redemption of our sins

Then Three days later.. Christ had Risen
Jesus Christ did this.. He regained Eternity

Jesus did this For All of Us..
To live again.. Eternally Born-again with Him

Come to Jesus Christ
Receive Eternal Life

Become Eternally Born-again
Receive Redemption of Your Sins

Only Through Jesus Christ
Can YOU be Saved-Born-again

God So Loved The World
He Gave His Only Begotten Son

Whomsoever Believes in Him
Shall Not perish but have Everlasting Life

Follow Jesus Christ
Forgive all others

As God has Forgiven You and Me
We all have sins.. We All come Short of God's Glory

Thank You.. Jesus Christ.. My Lord.. My Savior
For choosing.. to go through all.. that agony
So I-we be -Redeemed- Renewed-Reborn-
Jesus Did this.. Just for You and Me..

            I Love Jesus!!!
Thank you for Saving All and Me..
                    Setting Us--me Free!!!

Come take up Your Cross
For Christ.. Save Souls
Let them Know about Jesus

Love always in Christ

have you ever seen
a bird uncombed
or a kittens hair disshovled
is a lions mane unmanagable
or a rodents fur in stubbles
the wolves teeth
are always straight
never a miss aligne
and animals feet we always find
fur and claws well defined
the peacock and the parrots feathers
may never be refined

no dog or fish will ever lack
beauty for hair or fins misplaced
tusk and horns ballence an image
to an animals face
love and grace are given
because of place
and yet we know not
of their existance
as an animal race

can an animal care for theirs
like we care for ours
can an animal ask for care
without it's animal powers
was there a command
given of God
to do amazing things
to nurture to feed
protect and lead
without there being an exstream

yes this love
can be written
in the human heart
just as the bible says
how wonderful this love will be
when this love starts

Nails

My nails grow longer in the heat,
I like to keep them short, hands and feet,
pedicure and manicure by the girls in Phuket,
they give you more, full service and yet . . . .

I don't need my shoulders or head massaged,
there's a slap on the back as their fingers emerged,
nothing too intimate otherwise I might get ********,
the personal service should be my selection.

Now there's a mask on my face, an extra they say,
don't worry, it's free, you won't have to pay,
I'm not too keen on cucumber, peer over the edge,
shouldn't be so fussy, after all it's a privilege.

I walk out of the shop, spent my last Thai coin,
can't help but notice - there's a swelling in my groin.

It All Started With Three Nails On a Cross

It all started with three nails on a cross

Written By Dean Masciarelli

March 6, 2010 (9:28am)

It all started with three nails on a cross

And then when Jesus died he went to hell

Where he spent three days and three nights
there
for one purpose to try to save some souls

And on the third day he rose from the dead
according to the scriptures

And the first ones to bare witness
to his rising were some of
the ladies that were near his tomb

Yet so many people had trouble believing this

And then Jesus appeared to the dejected apostle
Peter
and he walked with him by the flowers and shrubs

And as they walked through the garden

Jesus tried to explain to Peter

That the enemy didn’t want to let Peter go

But Jesus let Peter know

That he wouldn’t give him up

Because he knew Peters heart and that’s why he forgave him

So that Peter could share his gospel with those who sit in the darkness

Because he wanted Peter to try to change
the evil thoughts of the natural minds of men

And in the process it literally changed Peters doubts

And all the sorrow that he carried in his heart

And then Jesus vanished as quickly as he appeared

And Peter knew in his heart that he was given a second chance

And it just goes to show all of us that Jesus truly has such a forgiving heart

And that is why he died with three nails on the cross

So that he could forgive us for our sins

If we would just have enough faith to believe in him

For he will never forsake us because that is his promise

Tough As Nails

Hopeful doesn’t mean stupid
That doesn’t mean I wasn’t stupid
I was in a state and messed up
Simple as that.

I could dramatize
Spill all the stars from my eyes and mouth and cry out for answers but,
I won’t.
My spirit can dance alone.
A lapse in judgement will not throw it off beat because it dances to a cosmic drum. My heartbeat and no one else’s.

Dropped my shield
Set myself on fire
Burned up a daft dream
And fell to ashes.

I’ve proven to relate to the phoenix
Both of us know what it’s like to die a quick death and come back stronger
Time and time again
Our ashes swirl into the manifestation of our desires and in that I find my comfort.

Boulders
Hard topped, granite counters
Tough as nails kid
But kid is man or at least he pretends to be.

Smart phones aren’t so smart but, I’m writing this on one
Sedatives and sad, country music mood swims through my veins.

Excuse me, while I go have a drink with that phoenix.

It Wasn'T the Nails

It wasn’t the nails that held Jesus to the
Cross. He could have come down but my
Soul would be lost. The ransom was so high
Only he could have paid the cost. He paid the
Price to set me free, from addictions fear and
Countless things from A to Z.

The celebration of the cross, all he ask in return
That the word, the anointing, his presence we yearn.
Simply live in my heart to have and to hold,
That whatever I ask, will receive freely and bold.

Enjoy your chocolate, but do remember Christ,
Some prefer chocolate and say they are nice,
Easter the cross, death, resurrection now am free
Take the world but give me Jesus that will suffice

Three Nails and a Cross

He come into this world for our sake
His unconditional love made Him sacrifice Himself
With each step He took, we follow
God was merciful unto us,for He loves us more
Opting to give us His only son so that we could be saved
Three nails and a cross was the perfect sacrifice

No scapegoats could clean our sins
More and more were sacrificed so that God could forgive us
The Lamb of God was the only redemption
He was called the King of the Jews
Crowned with thrones on His head, surely he was humble to death

Each stripe cleaned our sins
Each drop of blood from His body washed us clean
Each tear He shed, took away our pain and sadness
Three nails and a cross

As the nails pierced His body, He scream in pain
The cup He drank was too heavy for the physical form
The weight of the sins were too heavy for one man
But through Him we found salvation and love

As the sky got more darker, He asked why He forsake Him
The Creator was been nailed into a cross by His creation
It was the fulfilling of the scriptures
With His last words, it was completely finished
Three nails and a cross took death and gave us life.

3 Large Nails

"3 Large Nails"

I have used a hammer many times, to pound nails into wood!
A moments reflection has given me thoughts of something
                                     else quite understood!

Long ago, in the past, at a place known as Calvary,
"3 Large Nails" were used in extreme cruelty!

A Man was laid down on a cross, with His arms spread right and left!
Two other men were laid along side Him,
for they were guilty of theft!

Not one thing had this Man done! He had committed no crime!
This was His crucifixion, that would be remembered for all of time!

"3 Large Nails" were chosen, for this dastardly act.
They held His arms down, placed a nail in each palm,
and brought the hammer down with forceful impact!

I would've screamed to the highest Heavens
for they pounded a large nail through both feet,
but scripture said "He shall not cry, nor lift up,
nor cause His voice to be heard in the street!"
                                           (Isaiah 42:2)

See, this Man NEVER, EVER said a word, not one word in protest!
"3 Large Nails" were driven through His palms and both feet,
dying for our sins at His Father's request!

After this crucifying act, He on His cross was then stood upright!
This Man who had only done good and nothing wrong,
was left to die in the night!

"3 Large Nails" were chosen, to anchor this Man to a cross!
"3 Days Later He Was Resurrected And Ascended!
He gave His life as the ultimate in cost!"

Poet's Notes:
My wife Kimmy will be opening a new hair styling and nail shop in the near future in Sunnyvale, CA and I am trying to help out by writing short poems that I may use as newspaper advertisements. This poem is a collection of mini-adds I have written so far. Please tell us what you think. Any and all suggestions will be treasured! Ha!

Also: a note of gratitude to the old ‘Burma Shave’ adds along the highways of my youth and, of course, to Abekah Emmanual of Ghana.

Nails and Hands

Miss Nails married Mr. Hands
And their marriage is a
“Yes we can- can”

He’s a go-getter and she is too
They’re a power couple
Who have paid their dues

It’s so nice to see a couple who
Understands “Through thick and thin”
Because the payoff entails great dividends

Mrs. Hands is a friend of mine as well
Ooops, that’s an understatement hell

She’s my BFF and sister too
We’re not blood related
Sometimes that’s misconstrued

Because love conquers all
And on the double we’ll be there
If either one of us call
