A Prayer To Achieve.

Lord, teach me to achieve.
Teach me to love what I do.
Teach me to do what I love.
Teach me to truly achieve,
but by your standards,
not the worlds',
so that I might achieve
that which is worthwhile
and lasting,
not fleeting
nor empty.
And,
when I am finally called
to give an accounting
of what I have achieved,
may what I have achieved
speak well of me,
so that I might achieve
that which is truly lasting-
eternal life.
AMEN.

This is dedicated to the following people who have
treated me with kindness and respect:

Premium Member Eleanor Rigby

I’m one of the lonely,
the oh so lonely people
missing your subtle smile.
You were a pretty blue eyed beauty,
with unkept hair and go go boot style.

Eleanor, Eleanor Rigby,
you lived down on the corner.
I’d see you stand inside your door,
staring blankly at the floor.
They told me, yes they told me,
you didn’t care any more.

The nightmare you lived,
It’s so sad it seems.
So you left your face in the jar by the bed,
because it couldn’t conceal your screams.
I hear them sing songs about you,
you still live in their dreams.

Those lonely people,
those sad lonely people.
They crave a glimpse of you.
So they make up their stories,
but none of them are true.
They keep saying they know,
but we know they never knew.
Each one trying to grab onto,
a small piece of you.

Do you remember,
Old Father McKenzie?
I listened to the words of the sermon
that the others couldn’t hear.
I wished you were here,
Oh how I wished you were here.
As I drank of his wine
I swallowed a tear,
thinking you were behind me
as I stared at the mirror.
Don’t worry Eleanor Rigby,
there’s nothing left to fear.

I know the man that you loved
was taken from you.
No reason, no reason that’s true
For you there was not to be,
a life long happy “I do”
“Do you take this man, Eleanor Rigby?”
Down the aisle you walked alone.
Why oh why was he taken from you?

After you were buried,
alone I went to your grave.
Always afraid, always afraid.
Why didn’t I ever talk to you?
I’ve never been one who is brave,
I guess that’s why,
I’m one of the lonely people.
So I saved you Eleanor Rigby
by throwing you from the Steeple!
I know, I know it’s good to be free,
so for a while I’ll keep you company.
It’s ok Eleanor Rigby,
there’s no need,
no need at all to thank me.
Together with him,
you are meant to be.

Have you forgotten Eleanor Rigby?
Then step up, meet me now, for I am she.

How many weddings have I attended
where it seems a war has been suspended?

For but a few moments, these happy pairs
enjoy their lives as if they have no cares.

I picked up the rice at each wedding,
asking myself why I was attending.

Perhaps just to see our priest once more
Father McKenzie, whom I adored.

There’s no doubt that my passion was true
and that he, surely, must love me too.

So bury me now along with my name
in the cemetery’s corner of shame.

Resting in shadows, our graves can be found
with just two small headstones marking the ground.

Are you one of the lonely like us?
Do you sit alone with no mates to discuss

the remains of the day, two lives not shared?
For the good priest and I never dared

to open our hearts to both joy and pain,
leaving us solitude filled with disdain.

Hostess Twinkies

. The yellow cream filled twinkie
               A frozen delight,
        Try eating it nice and cold;
             Tongue enveloping
               Tonsil tackling
                Throat filling
                    Cream!

Please Hold

"Thank you for calling….”
Is what’s trained to be said
But when they get irate and lewd
I feel like hanging up instead.

This person’s always right, that person’s never wrong.
Mr boss sir, your breath is oh so strong !
they’re mean and crass, just downright rude
I might just be naughty and get the big boss sued.

I give picture perfect smiles,
the really artificial Kind
Welcome and please come again,
you just died ten times in my mind

Just got off the last call and I don’t mean to be crude
But goodbye till tomorrow, the next complaint I’ll elude

Dreamer

Dreamer

ONE of my longings is that the stars above,
So bright and far they scarcely shine on love
Were not, out there, so distant from the moon
But trekked across the sky to love bestrewn.

I must not stay withdrawn but wish each day
Unto the darkness, stars would find their way
Onward through heavens submitting to the wind
And motions that one dreamer might pretend.

Never knowing that reality was lacked.
Nor that mere fantasy seems to be fact.
No one can make these heartfelt visions clear.
Nor hope relieve the thoughts I still hold near.

Stars, bestow brightly your light to love anew.
Let us, sweetheart, together vows renew.

Have You Ever

Have you ever tried staying awake in your sleep?
Or fly when walking?
Maybe screamed loud in your silence?
Well that’s the way you make me feel

When you make meaning out of a simple breath
Read in between my rhymes
And leave my mind to play like a 6 CD changer

Fine lines, silk hair, mere curves, defined eyes, lighted skin, pink lips
You are my poison, my glaceed cape gooseberries
You made me fall for music like Jamaica fell for weed
Steady minded, smart, easy, simple
You are the epiphany of my life

You are the only thing between me and sex
The reason you are made love for infinity
Yes I know sometimes you hate me as much as I hate your mistakes
But that is why I love you

So every time I l close my eyes, I say my prayers to you
Just you
That you will follow my flow

I want you raw with the bore
And the thorns that come with it
I want clueless of where clouds come from
And where the sun sets
I want you bad, real bad(and you know what I mean)

Cos the reality is, you just a pigment of my imagination and yet to exist
I know you are somewhere out there.
Maybe right here
Someday I will find my pretty wings

Griga Christmas Cheer

Griga Christmas cheer
By Lawrence M. Nunez

Christmas in Griga was a special day
We celebrated in a special way
It was never about a gift or a toy
But rather happiness and joy
The toys were good for only a day
For the good ones mommy couldn’t pay
And all we needed was Christmas cheer

No chimney we had for Santa to come
Parcels from states we did get some
Luis Liu, James Chee, and Leo Liu
McKenzie, Dick Usher and Alberto Liu
Our Stores down town fully decked out
Not with lights but friends shout out
Celebration in the air and Christmas cheer

Freshly varnished tables and chair
The sound of music in the air
Linoleum or Marley on the floor
For those that were not really poor
Like cake and Fanta we had to share
With those who brought laughter, joy and care
Blessings, glad tidings and Christmas cheer

Santa you would never see
For there was none by Carib sea
Parents worked hard for what we got
No Santa we had to sit on his lap
Jankunu for us was the mark of the day
House to house to those that would pay
For that was our Christmas cheer

Warini we had on Christmas Eve
All dressed up in banana leaves.
Jankunu on Christmas day would dance
Regally dressed, impressive as they prance
Cherikanari would be the day after that,
Hunta man and Bagasu would have their spat
And this completes our Christmas cheer.

Tantalizing Love

Delude me, sweet fantasy: make him appear into my warm and scented sheets
Show me his love, as he caresses my long dark hair
Form a midnight fire wavering from our eyes and fingertips
Tonight I shall pluck a star for you from the heavens above -
Polished and twinkling on the edge of something fragile
Make a wish touched by something pure and everlasting

Cloaked cased in the deep amber moment
Remind me I am a like that of a small bird waiting to be cradled
Hold me close with your strength and hunger unknown to you
Oh tell me that I make you feel right -
As we waver dreamy under a canary moonlight
The warmth of your breath by my shoulder, oh sight with delight

Though we are but a mere speck in a cosmos of many
We are wrapped alone in a vacuum of glass kept fair
Now nothing else matters, nothing really could-
When you are in the arms of something so powerful and so good
Delude me, sweet fantasy: make him appear into my warm and scented sheets
