Best In This Day And Age Poems

The Voice

The Voice…

On a dark night that was darker than my pain,
nothing was there for me except to complain.
I hid myself in the emptiness of bed.
Nothing was there except loneliness instead.
I heard a sound that was not like any sound.
Joyously called my name, sought me, and then found.
He told me to get up, wake up look at dawn.
The darkness of the night soon will be all gone.
The voice told me that morning dawn, full of light;
has the power to wash darkness from its night.
The voice asked me about the days of my youth.
That I am old and grey, with forgotten truth.
I asked him that who are you, and what are you?
I don't know you, didn’t see you passing through.
Who are you that suddenly came to my room?
Aren’t you God, and I am, meeting my doom?
I called your name many times when I was young.
I prayed your name day and night with broken tongue.
Now, you are calling my name in this day and age;
not worth talking to you; anger creates rage.
I am too old, and I had too many sins,
Living is the only game that nobody wins.
Go and bother another soul beside me,
I am tired of you; you shall never be.
The voice told me that I was out of my mind.
And I have been beguiled, as though I am blind.
He told me that he was with me the whole time.
He let me to fly in this paradigm.
He told me that he is the end of a start.
He is the love that cries from an aching heart.
He told me that he is water in the spring.
He is those nightingales who so blithely sing.
He told me that he is bottom, and he’s up.
He is grapes, and he is wine in the same cup.
He told me that he gave feathers for a flight.
He made it so the sun shall set within night.
I asked him if I could see him with my eyes,
I will be like the moon, lighting up the skies.
That I looked for any sign to believe him,
with just all promises, dreams maybe all grim.
He told me to wake up, open up my eyes,
and see what is to see, a blessing in disguise.
I did open my eyes saw a glowing bright,
like a drifting shadow, in an ocean of light.
I saw my son saying, "Wake up! Wake up! dad",
What’s the matter with you? Are you going mad?

Premium Member Hope

In this day and age, when happy seems vacant
Where people’s hopes appear forever distant,
It’s the little things that see you through the day
Often it seems, in the most trivial way.

A simple smile might spice up your day
Maybe an ‘hello’, said in a friendly way
Or a driver, who lets you pull out in front,
Or the boss who’s ill, you would normally confront.

To stumble across a coin, when you’re stony broke,
Bump into an old friend, when it’s years since you spoke,
Receive some flowers, right out of the blue
Or complete the crossword you thought you could never do.

Wake up with the thought - ‘it must be Monday’,
Only to then realise, actually it’s Sunday,
Or a kiss from a loved one, with an ‘I love you’
There’s no greater act that anyone can do!

It’s the little things that can give you hope
A gentle ‘pick me up’ when it’s hard to cope.
Whatever it is, that brightens your day
We must conclude- ‘it’s surely god's way!!’

De Ja Vu

Lyrics are timed to music

Out there - a distant shore
I’ve seen your face before
It’s De’ja`vu with thoughts of you
Then feelings of a loss, come tomorrow

Sometime - another place
I’ve seen - your smiling face
It’s De’ja'vu of thoughts I knew
Love is meant to be, not the sorrow

I searched, beyond the stars
I looked beneath the moon
I know JUST KNOW - without a DOUBT
My heart - will show me soon

Oh way out there - a distant land
That’s where - my love began
Now De’ja'vu fills thoughts anew
So happy again - come tomorrow

So far, beyond that star
We’ll kiss far beneath the moon
I know, without a DOUBT
My heart will show me where soon

I’m sure, with wings I’ll soar
With love, I knew before
I’ll spread my wings I’ll learn to fly
And never ever again - be broken hearted

Oh we can fly with wings on high
Then never ever again, we’ll be parted

Synopsis of total De’ja’vu play that these lyrics were composed for:
The lives of two lovers was torn apart way back in the 14th century when she was banished. The interference could have caused a Pattern shift of Destiny in the Loom of Time. Could a certain couple be the same star crossed lovers that have searched for each other through many lifetimes over the centuries?

A wise mystical character from the bygone era is a keen observer and blames himself for not intervening. He also wonders that since the Earth is the cradle of humanity, would humans have progressed past the cradle in this day and age.

Foot note:
Ron and I love musical theater. After seeing a disappointing play, he rose to my challenge in regard to the comment he made that he could have written better. The result was De’ja’vu, a Romantic Musical.

I wrote the lyrics in collaboration with him, but due to the enormous staging costs the music was never written and we abandoned the project.

The lyrics for this piece have been tweaked to ‘La mer’, also known as ‘Beyond the Sea’ and one of my Dad’s favorite songs. (Wish he was here, he would have composed the music)

Sorry folks, if and when we find suitable music to the lyrics of the Grand Finale, I’ll post it

Premium Member Gift of Love

Regardless of our faith, in Love we can believe,
For Love's within us all, if we choose to retrieve.
Should we choose to leave Love in a dormant state,
Then we invite into our heart the bitterness of hate.

Those who believe in the power of Love,
Radiate and spread around all the beauty of.
Those who deny Love to flourish within their heart,
Spread misery around, since it's all they can impart.

We have all been blessed with the greatest Gift,
Though some choose to away from Love, drift.
The presence of Love or not is always crystal clear
In how we treat others; how others we revere.

Love is not selfish, cruel, apathetic, unforgiving;
Does not embrace greed or a miserable way of living.
Instead, Love is selfless, compassionate, and kind,
With consideration for others a natural state of mind.

Love is not ego serving, boastful and bragging;
Doesn't tune out a guilty conscience nagging.
Instead, Love is humble, modest, and reserved;
Accountable and accepting of what's deserved.

Love is not jealous, envious, resentful, or bitter;
Nor shallow, spineless, a flip-flopping fence sitter.
Instead, Love cultivates virtue, values, and integrity,
Making real in oneself a comfortable place to be.

When, our Gift Of Love, we cultivate with care,
We then reap to scatter Love seeds everywhere,
Always hoping they'll take root in another's garden bed,
Where there's being tilled the opposite of Love, instead.

When in our hearts we grow Love, we never have to feel
Afraid that another will come along and from us, steal
What we are growing and therefore, in possession of,
Because all they can take from us is some of our Love.

Once in the thief's possession, Love can only grow,
Infiltrate and change the current seeds they sow.
So, when we give the Gift Of Love and without request,
We can know in our heart we have given the very best.

In this day and age of money taking precedence,
Love is still free to receive and to dispense.
Love cannot be bought nor can Love be sold,
Making the Gift Of Love untouchable by gold.

We need not save our Love for special times and places,
Just for special occasions and to gladden special faces,
For the magic of Love is released every time we give
And multiplies within us when the Gift Of Love we LIVE!

The Definition of Innocence Part 2

(continued from part 1)

What is innocence
that little boy
whose pulling his toy
with it’s broken wheel
Do you think he doesn’t know that the price of that crack needle
Could buy him a meal?
Do you think he doesn’t, know
that that beer bottle
Is why he bares the bruises on his skin
Is it why he has to force himself to grin?
Is that little girl sitting with her perfectly coifed dolls
Singing to herself so she doesn’t hear the screams
Doesn’t she scream in terror
as her father bursts into her dreams.
And shoves her mom crashing into her little table.
Does she have to dream, to live her fable
And even then,
is she able?
Do you wonder what she is thinking
as she struggles to push the head back on her doll
or is it a way for her to merely, ignore it all
Are you watching with 20 million other viewers
A drone in your living room, a slave to a box
A fly in a web of airwaves
Do you think your government is doing the same
Or are they filling up
Graves
is there an agenda being played
as our minds are swayed
Is this distraction as innocent as it seems?
And that epidemic….An epidemic of having too much food
Begging someone please!
stop us from eating I cant see,
my knees
like it’s the bubonic plague
like we’re dropping like flies
An epidemic!
Could we build a memorial and carve on its stone
5 million died this year
from an this epidemic alone
we could… if we replaced obesity with
starvation
Is it ironic that the fat kids stomach looks just as big
as the starving ones.
What is innocence
Is a boy who just wants to spend time with his grandpa
He doesn’t understand
As his grandpa takes him by the, hand
And leads into the bathroom
To show him the darker side of man
That in that moment he’ll have to grow up
Faster then he planned
Faster then he can
What is innocence
Does it exist in this land
From the time were born
We stripped down, bought and torn
From violence to ****
We’re watched and mimicked
Our lives just a gimmick
To get in our little kids heads
Where innocence treads
To take away their bliss
The only thing that they were born, with
What is innocence
Does it exist anymore
Or in this day and age
Have we closed that door
Forever more?

Premium Member The Only Man Who Has Ever Touched Me

He’s the only man who’s touched me
The one man with whom I’ve made love
Unheard of in this day and age
But still something to be proud of

No one else has caressed my body
Or has found the source of pleasure
No one else knows how to move me
To conquer measure by measure

No else has tasted my lips
Or has laid his head on my breast
No other man has made me moan
Been my partner in passion’s quest

No one else has played my sweet games
Or held me helpless in his arms
No other has made time stand still
Or has unleashed on me his charms

Now, after feeding him my love
I just watch him drift off to sleep
And I’m left to lie and wonder
How marriage vows are made to keep.

Yesterday as I was watching TV,
something suddenly occurred to me.
(blank) is something I haven’t written about;
it is time I do so, I have no doubt.

In this day and age that we live,
no one admits mistakes or is willing to forgive.
With social media and so much info online,
(blank) tends to put a dull on our shine.

When we are trying to make a name for ourselves,
win many awards, or put trophies on the shelves,
Our integrity is sometimes clouded by (blank);
our concerns are more about money in the bank.

I say we need to take a look at our lives,
And eliminate (blank) if we want to survive.
And what is (blank) you ask of me;
Fill in the blank with what you want it to be.

"words Uttered By Our Fingers"

Through the path of life,
We undergo some strife,
But we found each other as we type,
Our finger matched,
Through the technology screen,
And taught us to believe,
That friendship comes,
From up above,
And matched us in this crazy thing,
Fingers matched,
Walking together,
On this chosen path,

As we type and read what we write,
Getting to know each other,
Is such a delight,
Our fingers resemble,
All that is real,
In this day and age,
We are lucky to feel,
Each others heart,
As our fingers do the talking.

Premium Member Valentines' Day At Millville Grade School

As the autumn of my life approaches, a bit of memory fades,
But I still recall very special times from my primary grades.
We did things then now considered politically incorrect,
Enjoying Valentine and Halloween parties - no one did object!

The Valentine party was the social event of the school year.
Kids secretly expressed affection for that very special dear.
They deposited their cards in a box covered with colorful crepe;
Walls were decorated with hearts of every size and shape!

Someone scrawled on the blackboard, "We Love You Miss Ruth!"
And below were scribbled the names of her adoring youth.
Valentines cost two for a penny in those uncluttered days,
A cheap way to express puppy-love in such endearing ways!

As the cards were distributed, secret admirers gave a shy grin;
Boys received saccharine cards much to their chagrin!
Miss Ruth served cookies, popcorn and chocolate milk,
And heart-shaped candies saying "Love" or something of that ilk!

Miss Ruth gave a special hug to every girl and boy.
Her love and care topped off a day of delightful joy!
I fear that the children today may never again enjoy,
The simple pleasures I knew that today, some vow to destroy.

Now I wonder if in this day and age where anything goes,
If children are even permitted their affection to disclose?
Or have the politically correct creeps decreed it ain't okay,
For kids to celebrate innocent love on Saint Valentines' day.

Premium Member Not Your Old Generation Grandparents

From the moment we became grandparents we have felt conflicted
at the way, in books and media, grandparents are depicted.

But we’ve been grandparents for a while now
(one grandchild just graduated college)
So we believe it is time to share some grand-parental knowledge…

When a cartoonist draws a grandma her hair is invariably in a bun
If she’s not wearing a sweater…chances are she’s knitting one.

When she walks it’s with a cane and we will forever take offense
how she’s always wearing glasses and has no fashion sense

When a cartoonist draws a grandpa he is never very tall
His hair is a vibrant shade of gray or white…if he has any hair at all.

His plaid pants never match his shirt…his glasses are as thick as a window pane
He could be in a wheel chair or like Grandma…walking with a cane.

If you look around at grandparents today, you’ll find us agile and nimble and spry
In fact you’ll discover to your amazement those old stereotypes don’t apply.

Deborah doesn’t wear a muumuu…her hair is never in a bun,
If you ask our grandchildren what they think, they’ll say their Nana’s fun.

She’s creative, she’s compassionate, she’s patient and I can verify
She’s great with babies, loves to bake and sings a soothing lullaby.

As for me, though I am a little bald, I don’t wear plaid pants, never would.
snd if I do say so myself, I make the clothes I wear look good.

I do not fish, don’t watch much TV, I don’t read the Farmer’s Almanac
When my grandchildren ask to play football…guess who’s the quarterback?

Deborah and I will try jumping rope, playing soccer and climbing trees too
because in this day and age, in our generation, that’s what grandparents do!

We are a mix of old and new, we are much cooler and hipper than before
(Even though I’m pretty sure people don’t say cooler or hipper anymore!)

We embrace some of the traits of our grandparents, yes the good ones have survived
but speaking for Deborah and the grandparents I know, a new generation has arrived!

So cartoonists when you draw Deborah draw her with style, grace and fun
And if you’re drawing her baking cupcakes, make sure they’re funky ones.

And when you take your pencils out don’t draw me in a rocking chair
Instead…draw me climbing up a tree or in a top hat
and if you want…
you can add more hair.

Maximillian

MAXIMILLIAN
I am about to take a trip into the lens of thought.
I am going to magnify the face to be.
Sometimes it may be pretty as ugly goes.
Otherwise, it is an ugly feature.

This journey I am partaking is sociologically constructed.
It defines why the world is stuck on stupid.
Nothing more than you being more refined than me.
I see you are a masterpiece.

Expeditious I am.
In search of new populations, I travel the Pacific.
Indigenous people are there to discover.
I will not trip when I see a different sister and brother.

This crossing must be made in this day and age.
Excursion digress to acumen investigated.
Natives of new country longing to be unearth.
I am in quest for a difference in the universe.

Toddling to not be a todd,
I will ramble the Eastern and Western hemispheres.
As the explorers did long ago, by vessel I go.
From East Pacific to West, I look for what is there.
I imagine only reptiles and amphibians in the East and water mammals sunbathing in the West.
This is a knowledge quest endeavoring.

If I do discover indigenous people,
I will be very cautious to not assume their normality.
Embracing their difference, if I am allowed.
How long I am there, who knows?
I came to educate and inspire.

Through my navigation system, I will share out.
If a signal is not given, I am disallowed.
Therefore, will I return to my home land, is question to ponder.

Insofar as I sally forth imagism via looking through the lens of thought,
Expeditious is my cognizance, as I trudge forward for gen, the world is a brilliant place to be within.

Premium Member In God We Trust

A spirit of violence is creeping in this country to invade.
In our large cities citizens are becoming afraid.
Race related shootings are more frequent,
Stirring up hate and feelings of discontent.

We have to worry about terrorists, and loners acting in rage.
It is a sign of the end times in this day and age.
Our national motto is "In God We Trust."
We need to put God back in America, an absolute must.

Here Comes the Bride

Here comes the bride all dressed in white
Kneeling clean and pure before her Groom,
the Lord, the Lamb who was slain in order
to take all the sins away... saved to live
all of her life with her beloved in eternity...
to be able to shine before the Father covered
by the Blood of truth, the life and the way.
The ultimate betrayal was forgiven when on that
hellish day we turned away from our first love
and ran into the waiting arms of evil.
Even now in this day and age, many of His children,
the children of the Lord are truly far... far away even
though they say they are so very close.
I at times can be included in this aspect of things
when I am not focused on what needs to be, for
we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but
with the powers and principalities that exist.
Our Lord and Groom asked us to pick the one we
want to be with now and then in the forever.
So let us be brave and walk boldly into the shadows
to disperse the darkness inside, knowing that the
final victory is already His.

The Simplest Things That

The simplest things that bring a smile to my face
Hearing a new born cries
Seeing a father cut his first born child umbilical cord
Seeing a butterfly breaking out of their cocoon
Seeing ants work together
Seeing a child ride his/her bike for the first time
Seeing my child graduate from Kindergarten thereafter first grade & now out of High School
Seeing an adult get baptized
Seeing a man and women get married in this day and age
All of these are beginnings of transitions that constitute for new situations to be made
