Best From Sea To Shining Sea Poems

Ben Hur Arkansas

I've been a lot of places in this land,
From sea to shining sea.
There's a place in the hills of Arkansas
That means more than them all to me,
A little wildwood church where people meet
To praise the Lord above.
They don't have a lot of money,
But they're rich in a thing called love

You'll see a friendly smile upon each face
The moment you walk in.
They'll make you feel so loved and right at home,
That you'll want to go back again.
They will pour you out a cup of kindness
And hospitality;
Then they'll take you home and feed you,
And they'll treat you like family.

You're always more than welcome;
There's no lock upon the door.
There's preaching and singing and praising the Lord,
And they know what the altar's for.
Don't look for a grand cathedral,
Standing proud and tall;
It’s a humble little church, beside the road,
At Ben Hur Arkansas.

America

The following is a poem written by Judge Roy Moore from Alabama . Judge Moore was sued by the ACLU for displaying the Ten Commandments in his courtroom foyer. He has been stripped of his judgeship and now they are trying to strip his right to practice law in Alabama ! The judge's poem sums it up quite well.

America the beautiful,
or so you used to be.
Land of the Pilgrims' pride;
I'm glad they'll never see.

Babies piled in dumpsters,
Abortion on demand,
Oh, sweet land of liberty;
your house is on the sand.

Our children wander aimlessly
poisoned by cocaine
choosing to indulge their lusts,
when God has said abstain

From sea to shining sea,
our Nation turns away
From the teaching of God's love
and a need to always pray

We've kept God in our
temples, how callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool,
and Heaven is His throne.

We've voted in a government
that's rotting at the core,
Appointing Godless Judges;
who throw reason out the door,

Too soft to place a killer
in a well deserved tomb,
But brave enough to kill a baby
before he leaves the womb.

You think that God's not
angry, that our land's a moral slum?
How much longer will He wait
before His judgment comes?

How are we to face our God,
from Whom we cannot hide?
What then is left for us to do,
but stem this evil tide?

If we who are His children,
will humbly turn and pray;
Seek His holy face
and mend our evil way:

Then God will hear from Heaven;
and forgive us of our sins,
He'll heal our sickly land
and those who live within.

But, America the Beautiful,
If you don't - then you will see,
A sad but Holy God
withdraw His hand from Thee..

May America gather and agree
To be love-full and malice-free.
To unite as one, live one decree
From sea to shining sea:

To let brotherhood and unity
Propel new opportunity.
Arise, in new community
And crush our land’s disunity.

America come, give thanks
For the soldiers on foot; in tanks
Whose loyalty never broke ranks
From interior to outer banks.

Come young and old, altogether!
We share many a bond and tether.
As one nation, we’re strongest together
We’re one plumage but many a feather.

Premium Member What I Really Want

I want to see the America, my grandparents saw;
The promise of freedom, and justice for all.

Where to be an American, a privilege, from "sea to shining sea",
They left us a gift, to protect, our priceless legacy.

Where constitutional laws were created; intended to be upheld,
Not amended, for an egregious agenda.

Where freedom of speech, was once our natural born right,
Assembling in peace, without fury or fight.

Where facts in journalism are restored,
And politicians don't ignore, the voices of "We the People."

Where a kaleidoscope of cultures, a human tapestry,
Now, hangs in the balance, of fragility.

Where history is not in the shadows of disgrace,
It is the key to our future, to move forward and embrace.

Where the anthem of our nation, brings us to our feet,
And our pledge of allegiance, we all repeat.

I want to see the America, my grandparents left behind,
Where again, there is opportunity to find,
"Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

Gone But Not Forgotten

Our Country Tis of thee, sweet land of Liberty,
That bleeds Red, White and Blue across the sands of a distant land.
For purple mountain majesties and amber waves of grain..
Their blood is among the plains.
Do You pledge allegiance to the Flag for which it stands,
One nation In need of God…
             These United States Of America.
Oh does that star spangled banner yet wave in the hearts and mind’s
Of those who love it more than life.
For some it is their only gift
   The greatest gift of all.

From Sea to shining sea ,
   They’ve come and they’ve gone.
Some nameless, some known,
We all die,,
    But some never come home
The Brave,,,Back to the land of the free.

                                                     W.A.R

Pax Romana

oh,
boastful & bloodthirsty empire
stretching yourself silly
from “sea to shining sea”
will there ever be a moment of peace
again?
must you continue
rising like yeast
to command the breadth of the world
until you become far too burnt for anyone to
enjoy
anymore?
even rome had a
pax romana
even icarus
paused for a moment to strap his sandal back up
before
flying
into
the
sun.

America The Great

I love this great country, may she stay the course
We’re protected by God and American brute force

Her life-giving blood is for you and me
She holds many wonders, from sea to shining sea

Through blood, sweat and tears, she’ll weather all time
We are still very young, but forever in our prime

Our people are diverse, an enduring breed
Blessed by God, every color and creed

The face of America not long ago
     an immigrant hard at work
   has undergone a dramatic change
     immigrants have gone berserk

   From sea to shining sea
     from California to New York
they make fists and scream at rallies
     voicing opinions incredibly warped

   Anti-American as they can be
     protected by our own laws
   it seems to me ~
out to destroy our great country

May your thoughts they shine with words and rhyme
May your days bring about good fortune
I hope for thee good works indeed in not to small a portion
Good tidings for you and others too out clear across the ocean

May God's good grace put a smile on your face with charm and fascination
The sun doth tell will cast a spell with light and admiration
May your life be nice with plenty of spice in all you see and do
May your hopes and dreams and other fine things be attained this day for you

May you do good deeds for others in need may your life be free from greed
I hope you find love from God above best wishes for you indeed
You know your trust in God is a must from sea to shining sea
Never settle for less you are the best may your heart be always seen

Canada the home of my birth
open sky from sea to shining sea
unbelievable beauty captivates my heart
no other place I would rather live
teaming with wildlife trees and lakes
rising rocky mountains in the west
yesterday, today and tomorrow a part of me

Remembering Pearl Harbor

Remembering Pearl Harbor
It was nineteen forty one
The signs were staring at us
The holocaust begun

Fanatics taking over
From sea to shining sea
The masses were ignoring
The war that was to be

It was early in the morning
The bombers flying in
Sinking ships and killing
The fighting to begin

Not a lot of difference
Of what we're going through
The killing and the terror
You see it's really nothing new

If we don't address it
And fight it when it's small
It soon will lead to World War Three
You see history says it all

Reformed Patriotism: Defining America

America is an idea
that "all men are created equal,"
before we cared to define "human", "created", or "equal."
America is freedom for our grandchildren
in a manner we will never understand.

It is the founding fathers who died for liberty.
It is the darker brothers who fought for justice from kitchens and pulpits.
It is the poor, the huddled masses,
And their children who have forgotten this.

It is green cards that become blue passports.
It is unlearning the language of our grandparents.
It is knowing how to pronounce Arkansas and Illinois
It is enjoying barbecues on somber national holidays.

It is unbridled enthusiasm.
It is unbridled arrogance.
It is rugged individualism;
It is passionate paternalism.

It is hellfire that scorches deserts.
It is a gust that has fanned flames.
It is a cool rain that puts out fires.

From sea to shining sea--
It is Manifest Destiny
from Louis and Clark to Wounded Knee.
It is Topaz, and McCarthy,
and hundreds of things we would rather forget.
It is D-day, and Neil Armstrong,
and thousands of things we forget to celebrate.

America is a dream that rings from the red hills of Georgia
to the curvaceous slopes of California
to New York Island.

It is patriotism;
it is progress.
It is the blind worship of our past.

It is red. It is blue.
It is red, white, and blue.
It is what half of us say it isn't.
I say it evolves constantly;
others say it was created in His image.

It is everything I hold dear;
it is everything that infuriates me.
It is the warmth that makes my eyes tear
when I hear the Star Spangled Banner
at football games,
on July 4th,
or on September 11th.

It is hope.
It is the promise of a better tomorrow.
It is what ever I am.
I, too, am America.

Premium Member The Eagle Cries

Across spacious skies the eagle flies
Over mountains, valleys, and plains;
On majestic wing but with no song to sing
For the greedy are robbing all gains.

A nation's seeds of many colours, creeds,
Created with liberty and justice for all;
Divided is wrong when united is strong,
But division now threatens her to fall.

The eagle's land once so grand,
The home of the brave and free
Is under the spell of the wicked cartel,
While sleeping eyes wake not to see.

The eagle weeps as darkness creeps
In shadows across this great land.
Our freedom's story, once of glory,
Now written by the elitists' hand.

For all the lives lost, the ultimate cost,
The Eagle Cries, shedding rivers of tears,
As the greedy elite conspire to defeat
America, the eagle trembles in fears.

Though the eagle still soars over her shores
Where once was widespread brotherly Love,
The Eagle Cries down now over many a town,
A dismal view is the sight from up above.

For all the many lies, in shame The Eagle Cries;
The deafened hear not its piercing screams
Of the eagle, forlorn, as it trumpets to warn
The People and the threat to our dreams.

From uncertain skies The Eagle Cries,
Shuddering, gripped with fears;
Over America, the great, of uncertain fate,
Her majesty fading, reflects in eagles' tears.

Across spacious sky will the eagle again fly
Over a land where people united, stand,
Proud and free from sea to shining sea,
Under God's Grace and Guiding Hand?

Word Up!

This just may be
the last poem from the last poet
among the poets of last
who first spoke the word.

In the beginning
the Word was
is and ever will be
the force liberating
both you and me
from the mental shackles
of the new slavery.

Word up!
For a downed people!

Word up! Black is beautiful!
So beautiful to be Black!
Yet that’s not enough
lease you be satisfied
with the present stuff:

“Yo…what up dog”?
(can’t you see)
                              (What’s
                                                been
                                                             done)
(To
         you
                   me?)

They turned the word around
and made us
the chase and the hound:
“What up…dog?”

Word up “G”!
Word up “O”
(Yo!)
Word up “D”

We are the Alpha and the Omega!
Nubian queens! Sable Kings!

Africa!
Jamaica!
America!

Oh can’t you see
What’s been done
To you and me?
Took desegregation
made it integration
of two nations
that we remain to be
from sea to shining sea!

Took the best of us God sent
and left us with a deferred dream
well spent;
and a generation unaware
what the movement meant!

Today, Malcolm
is just a movie money maker;
King is just for a day; poor
Rosa is just another play:
like that about a bus
driving down dat highway!

The Word
is and ever shall be
the spiritual force
that will always set us free:
The germinating force
of your generation’s
possibilities!

This just may be
the last poem from the last poet
among the poets of last
who first spoke the word
that still must be heard:

Word Up!

May They Live On

Mohawk, Mandan, Kikapu, Cree,
Yakoma,Seminole, Crow,Shawnee.
Arapaho, Chippewa and Sioux,
Mystical names to me and you.
Names like Delaware, Fox and Paiute,
Listen to their music on the flute.
Lakota, Macuna, Omulgee, Nes Perce,
Yuma,Nakota,Ossage, Washoe, Hualapai
All names that should never ever go away.
Many now confined to history, sad to say,
Mans greed for land that was not theirs,
Caring nothing for the Indian affairs.
Starved and defeated they were moved away,
Now are conveniently forgotten up to this day.
For 400 years the remainder has cried,
Who is going to pay for this act of genocide.
Man will never right this wrong, or even admit,
To the atrocities that they did commit.
Sacred Lands abused all the way through history,
Hundreds of tribes that roamed from sea to shining sea.
All long gone now lost to you and me
So many nations will be no more,
But their names live on and their spirits soar.
Remember their music and listen to their song,
Then their culture and memory will continue long.

Lest we forget. My offering of Remembrance
for the Native American Indian peoples.
