Best Friends Only Poems
There’s a thing called Corona that’s going around,
and the yakety-yak of it’s bringing folks down,
for it’s not like some circus that’s coming to town!
If you turn on your telly, you’ll probably hear
lots of news shows predicting this virus is near,
and the airports stand empty from everyone’s fear.
Just a week ago one of my friends only paid
twenty dollars for a standard flight that he made.
I say THAT’S taking lemons to make lemonade!
I'd say hop on a plane for perhaps a low fee;
now however, that's nixed by new rules that I see.
Just take walks with your dog or stay in for your safety
Perhaps you'll go out. Put a mask on your face!
and a handiwipe's great so that you can erase
pesky germs that are lurking in every space.
While your neighbors are running like crazy to buy
extra paper for wiping their precious behinds,
go to Amazon. There a bidet you can find!
Everything is now closed. If it's not far away,
pay a visit to Mom (if allowed). and l say
try to think of your lockdown as some fun "stay-cay!"
Whatever you do, please stop buying Purell.
Leave that stuff for the folks who are truly unwell,
and please leave on the shelves toilet paper for sale!
Yes, a person could die, but folks die from the flu!
Just eat healthy, be cautious; that’s all you can do.
It is not the Black Plague that is coming for you!
Odds of dying from it - I believe - aren't THAT bad.
Many many events are now cancelled; it’s sad.
But have faith it will pass, like the Saggy Pants fad!

For Nina Parmenter's A Rattling Rhyme 2 Poetry Contest
Re-entering contest because in light of new information I have learned since writing this poem, I felt the need to make major changes to some of my lines.
Butterflies and daisies, orange and yellow day lilies,
I'd love to take you with me, but I'm just too lazy,
and you'd probably drive me crazy-
You have always, and you will always....
-AMAZE me.
My dream has always been, to breath in a garden of zen,
and float around like bubbles; and then pop,
and do it all over again.
For we don't pick our friends, only a few will stay,
then they go right on their merry way.
Unless you are you, they'd stay for eternity,
and stay until the final day.
An angel on a soft lily pad,
with little critters keeping her company-
Fields and fields of daisies,
and butterflies surrounding all over me.
Butterflies and daisies,
purple and pink pansies,
I'd love to pick you and take you home,
Surely I am too lazy-
You'd most likely drive my hunger crazy,
For you, My love, have saved me-
You have always, and you will always....
-AMAZE me.

As one man comes
waltzing into my life
Than another man comes
just the same
than there are many
whom coming around
all be just the same
for I not know why
but they all seem to claim
they want me as their wife
But why.. how can this be?
I mean.. really ..
I am not anything
am sure But
Why would they want me?
For I am a bit confused
As I told each man...
we be just friends..
but as I have found
they still come around
wanting my hand..
I asked what tis be
that you see in me?
What would make you
want me so much?
As a man replied
tis same as many..
Tis your beauty
and Love you behold
I want you always in my life
plz.. Come.. Marry me..
for I want you as my wife
To behold your beauty
forever in my life
I said dear sir... Thank you kindly
But I am sure you must be mistaken
For tis not I.. I am not...
I not behold such a thing..
Thank you kindly..
But we be friends only..
Than I went to my Lord in prayer
I asked my Lord.. why? why tis be
men coming wanten to marry me
Why tis this happening
I not understand..
Awaiting.. upon my Lord
I Don't Understand ?
why do some people get away with things and others don't
people are people so why should it be you and I appear awfully
no one questions anymore no one has a voice
it's the blind leading the blind soon will fall into a ditch
all the hero's and legends I knew as a child turned into idols of clay
don't you believe in what t.v. or the radio says about you
many seek for solace amidst the inner plight of silence
death is there doormat they squeeze all the love out of you
some seek to drawn there sorrows in a bottle like no tomorrow
the impulse of a hug takes a back seat with cheap lust
why does one equate logic for fear ?
I sit again in the silence alone,
minds that plug for bitter destruction in their brain washed minds
how it rains on the just & unjust...
a tug at the heart will light the inner spark to what I've been waiting for....
man has constructed living pyramids to honor their dead,
the notion of no atheists in fox holes
I don't debate them anymore only choose to love them instead
the walking dead having viscous hanging fangs that bite...
dot the i's and cross the t's
we resign as living socialites in our miniature soldier war
a toast of friends only to discover there is no love in their hearts
there are heads in the street for a burning cause but for what ?
they all claim its a banner of love but its hate in disguise
a lover in life is not the sinner
weak willed tyrants feeling a funeral in their brain
Why is love cheap lust these days get back to the basics
we choose to hide behind the false garb of compromise
Can't we see through all those twisted Satanic lies ?
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ in the garden,
Under ¦¦¦ August skies;
The moon had gone but ¦¦¦ stars shone on, -
¦¦¦¦¦ like your beautiful eyes.
Away from ¦¦¦ glitter and gaslight,
in the garden there,
While ¦¦¦ mirth of the throng, in ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ song,
Floated ¦¦¦ on the air.
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ through starlight,
I looked ¦¦¦ at you;
And a feeling came ¦¦¦¦ I could not name, -
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ starnge and new.
Friends ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ only, -
Why should it give me pain
To know you ¦¦¦¦¦ go in the morrow,
And ¦¦¦¦¦ not come again?
¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
What matter that we must part?
But ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ with a ¦¦¦¦¦ surprise,
¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
We did not speak, but your breath on my cheek
Was like a breeze of the south:
¦¦¦ your ¦¦¦¦ hair brushed my forehead
¦¦¦ your kiss fell on my mouth.
¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ -
¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ we went in from the garden,
Out of ¦¦¦ sweet starlight,
Back to the ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ music,
¦¦¦ we said 'Good-bye' ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ - ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦
The river ¦¦¦¦ rolls between us
Can never be crossed, I know,
¦¦¦ the waters are deep ¦¦¦ the shores ¦¦¦ steep,
¦¦¦ a maelstrom whirls below;
But I think we shall always remember,
Though we ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ strive to forget,
How you looked in my eyes, 'neath the August skies,
After the moon had set; -
¦¦¦ you kissed my lips in the garden,
¦¦¦ we stood in a trance of bliss,
¦¦¦ our hearts seemed ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ together
In ¦¦¦¦ one thrilling kiss.
(Blackout of In The Garden by Ella Wheeler Wilcox)
There was a young man of sixteen that was full of life. Never afraid of anything or anyone. He Loved spending time with his family and playing video games with his friends.
One night while at a friend’s home, he called his mom and asked if he could play a little longer.
Mom argued, it was a school night, but he always had a way of winning her over.
His friends only lived a few houses up the street.
His mom said, it was fine, but to call her when he was done and on his way home, so she could be waiting for him.
As the young man walked and almost approaching the front of his home, he saw a truck approaching him. Thinking it was his dad, he walked over to greet him.
There in the front sit of the truck, sat two young men and a young woman.
As he neared, the driver pulled out a gun and fired, shooting him once in the abdomen.
At hearing the gun shot, mom and her brother ran outside to the street to see what was going on.
Shocked to find her son lying on the street. She ran and fell to her knees and held him tight on her lap while he gasped for air. She yelled out for anyone in the neighborhood, to please come and help.”
Afraid, no one came out of their homes.
Later, when the suspects were in police custody, the police asked the driver; why he had shot the young man?
His comment: “Just something to do.” was his reply.

I was 63 when I started writing poetry. I was encouraged by a cousin older then I to write. She would have me read and critique her work on this poetry site. I did make my own birthday cards for my sons and would write my feelings, but I wouldn't consider them poems. This was my 3rd poem written inspired by the cruel death of my cousins son's murder.

Let's walk down memory lane,
skipping past forgotten pain.
And recall what used to be
when games were most often free.
Remember when for a lark,
we'd play "hide and seek" till dark?
And small chores earned us rich dimes;
though our clothes dried on clotheslines.
We believed in Santa Claus,
superheroes, and just cause.
And fresh air held a sweet smell,
while water came from a well.
The bogeyman, just pretend;
and every cop was your friend.
Whenever tall tales got spun,
bad guys lost, and good guys won.
Teenagers had loads of fun
without carrying a gun.
And friends only died in play;
they all lived; just yesterday.

I'm done with friends I really am,
I'm done with all the lies,
I'm done with all the backstabbers,
I truely do despise.
I'm done with giving my whole world,
Just to get slapped back,
Cuz honesty and loyalty,
It's something people lack.
I realy don't know why I try,
to make friends, near at all,
Cuz theres no people and therees no truth,
Friends only let you fall.
I was in a bar in Texas,
in the eastern back-country,
with three beers already inside
and another draining quickly.
It was a perfect redneck bar,
the kind of place I love,
with sawdust on the floors below
and taxidermy up above.
A man drank in a corner,
wearing a battered hat.
he said nothing to no one,
and I was thankful for that.
For in the center of the bar,
a loudmouth proudly raged,
boasting of his magnificence,
impervious to pain.
He mocked folks obnoxiously,
as drunks are wont to do.
His three friends only laughed,
three sheets to the wind too.
The braggart faced the corner,
said,”Hey, it’s the yodeler guy!
I saw him last Oktoberfest,
his voice is womanly high!
“Come on now yodeler,
show this bar what you’ve got.”
The yodeler said,”If you don’t mind,
right now I’d rather not.”
But the drunkard only fumed,
and slammed his hands on down
on the yodeler’s lonely table,
sending his beer to the ground.
Yodeler got up very slowly.
“That’s better now, my bro,”
said the drunk as he got up,
“Give the good people a show!”
Yodeler broke into a song,
bight and clear and full of grace,
then he shot a tree-trunk jab,
right into the drunkard’s face!
The drunkard fell, his friends charged,
Yodeler threw out his elbows,
knocked two down and the other
he grabbed by the throat.
Quick jabs rained upon the man,
until he could not see.
He fell to the ground hearing a
“Yodel-eh-hee-hee!”
Yodeler stomped one who rose,
and another then ran away,
But the drunk had come around,
and glowed red, flush with rage.
But Yodeler kept yodeling,
and waived the braggart in.
Braggart charged, Yodeler swung,
catching him on the chin.
Three men lay on the floor,
the yodeler stepped over them.
That night I learned never to cross
a true yodeling champion.
Not a lesson with much use,
that I readily will admit,
Much like the time I learned clog-dancers
don’t take kindly to bullspit…
Paying Homage
Awaiting the news, anxious for a cash day,
calling friends, only a few replied.
Searching for answers, only music for hay,
returned calls, then you supplied.
Austerity cuts hurting the Western poor,
similar to a normal day for Eastern bites.
Hospital, school, factory workers mop a Northern floor,
left now laminating and missing those Southern nights.
A divisive figure passes, levelled far too many lands,
a magical garden appears in far away sands.
Regrets, threats, defeats, victories; does it matter?
Speaking of current times and old times; review the latter.
Took the choice to move and study those rights abroad,
they had no choice, unfortunate products of the state.
A decade on, worse off, no need too applaud,
takes a tough time to flush out a friend; much homage to a mate.

A Big NO to God
Some take great pride in declaring God dead.
What are the thoughts in
their godless heads?
A world where infanticide is perfectly alright.
And "choice"is a word, that makes evil, right?
Where Rabbis are shot dead in the street?
And a Christian poem, their eyes will not meet.
And love and world peace are their hue and cry.
Yet, they can't understand why, the violence, asking,
"why, oh why?"
Brainwashed in our society to think guns kill people.
You never find these folks in a synagogue nor under
a steeple.
Don't you know it's fine today, to attack the police?
And the working man, well, he must be fleeced!
It's perfectly OK to do whatever you choose!
Their close friends only, with them, do they want to
schmooze.
Chasing animal and tree rights, yes that's their religion.
And so, Almighty God, is crushed to a smidgen!

Your loyal and trustworthy; a true special kind
Beautiful soul in spirit & mind
You are a person whom I can depend
Thank you for being such a good friend
Thank you for being supportive & not giving up
You were persistent to pull me out of that rut
Your caring, sharing and so much like me…..
With the same points of view and personality
Being so concerned when I was so wrong
Im sorry I was unresponsive for so long
I cant face anyone when I’m enduring emotional hell
express what is wrong you dealt me well
No one has ever been there for me the way that you have
We’ve connected, sure now to have always have a laugh
I’m grateful for your persistence to ensure I was well
So Supportive you were caught me when I fell
Every person calls associates ‘friends’. They’re not…
………..When its a network of associates we’ve got
True friends only appear a few times during life
Strength being offered in times of trouble & strife
We have so much in common that makes me smile
Our friendship makes days of time now worth while
In youth's frantic clutches
Addicted to vapid touches
Love children spawned in shaded hutches
Existing on euphoric highs, painless crutches
In middle age, lust morphed into longing
Spent body in static sphere now belonging
Neglected prodigy seeking shelter in availing arms
Licentious, pretentious friends fled in swarms
Sins of youth girdle my deserted gates
Promiscuous flings my esteem deflates
Rebellious children their fealty abrogate
Venal lovers rue my chaster estate
In deep morass, my withered soul equivocates
Bridging divide of self pity, butressing hope inflates
Then residual pain with due penance heart conflates
Seeking self forgiveness; from others proffering rebates
Healing balm of inner resolve soothes empty soul
To wayward children unconditional love tendered not in
part but whole
To fair weather friends only distant compassion will dole
Forthrightly, to bring uplifting, sharing friends into my
foal
When Harry met Sally
He thought her just a friend
She drove him so so crazy
The car drive to begin
Over the hills and through the woods
They ventured on their way
It started off a lovely trip
With lots of things to say
Back then it might sense
Girl and boy do meet
Friends only nothing more
Isn't it so sweet?
I can't imagine now
Living in LA
Meeting a man one night
Next to hear him say....
You know my dear you must know
Your beautiful no doubt
I love you for your brains also
So why must you pout?
Let's just keep things friendly
I don't want to take you home
I haven't even thought of it
Let's stay in friendship zone.
Is this an alcoholic dream?
Did he really just drop that?
Oh I'm so glad I met you
Maybe I am fat?
What's wrong with me?
Am in a darkened sleep?
I start to panic then slap myself
Guess faith will take a leap.
Sally wouldn't dare
Bring those thoughts to mind
Harry , well he knew
He wasn't that blind.
Men and women can be friends
For real or fantasy
But breaking lampshades all while screaming
Is much more beneficial and carefree.
