The Trials of Meretrix Canto I
When your befuddled mind
Forsakes upon the ragged edge
Of swirling darkness;
Where eternal night awaits
To sate upon purest innocence
Besides an open grave!
When the gravity of your perils
Be foully whispered within
Dismayed
And abject earshot;
Where salvation for despairing souls
Be so hopelessly betrayed!

Then I wouldst draw ye, Meretrix,
As I should draw...

Moans echo across the lands
from the souls who are lost
drifting, searching, seeking
forever doomed to exile.

Some brought down in their prime
foully murdered by sharpened steel
plunged into them with hatred.
Or maybe by plain greed.

Soldiers killed in needless wars
all for the rape of the innocent.
Governments hungry for...

Oh Baneful Yellow Moon
Oh baneful yellow Moon in fullest rounded sphere,
Bright as Summers Buttercups in abundant yield,
Coldly riveted upon Winters beaten, thin silvered panels;
Thereof: By ye mighty hammer doth great thoth wield!

For what fearful trowel gouged out thine far flung valleys
Whilst piling high upon yon monstrous heights?
Wherest, scattering...

Premium Member Alien Observation
Wind circulates, lifting and flattening
an otherwise, benign, breathless world,
relying also on deeper, slowly moving
tectonics, belching foully, scattering
seas...effecting change. Seasons like Sun
rejoice and fold. An occasional comet or
meteor perhaps a compassionate
God-sent, heaven rethinking the dawdling
pace of destiny…. Man a defiant offspring,
rejecting...

Dragon-Slayer
We fought as one,
 the blood it run,
All around our feet ,
Our bronze age swords ,
Were not ignored ,
We sliced and diced so sweet,

The dragon came again,
again,
it’s Stinking breath remained,
remained,
Like sulphur as it chilled,
 the best of brains,
 We tottered on...

Nothing More Or Less
Millions of lives and souls untold
And to account it all
Words, lines, films
Imagination trims
A sliver of soft, scarlet ribbon
Hollywood rounds
Quills deliver
Writers flare with passion so strong
Filling minds with fantasies, reveries, histories
Tragedies
We consume it all like freshly baked bread
We feed until we are engorged and fed
A viral,...

A June Night in Rotgut Saloon

In walked Lefty Red behind him lay many dead
into this old dusty town his tired horse had tread
Well known his draw was quick as lightning
his stare deadly cold and so very frightening

Stranger where is the nearest watering hole
getting drunk...

An inhalation consumes the wet weight of fog,
anxiety bathes in its dampness, dissolving, destitute,
inhaling the salt of rampant sea as it roars, angrily
consuming the more human pace of breath to disgorge
the wetness of heartbreak upon the cheek of maiden...

The Witch and the Judge
A Witch must confirm the Powers in her possession
Before performing an anticipated condemnation
The guilty Judge, rendered immobile and speechless
Wets himself, cowering, trussed and helpless
As the Witch intones the Powers’ sacred Creed
That she has sworn to obey and heed.

“The Powers were forged when Time came to...

My Conscience Speaks To

misled, misrepresented ...

Poetry That Isn'T
What wafting of wisdom! Such saccharine sound!
Deft diction’s depictions, opaque and profound!
So ruminants rumble and mumble and seek
To mine out much marrow, obtuse and oblique.

My constant conundrum’s more crude and perverse:
I strive not to retch at such wretched non-verse.
Fair finery flops if its form foully...

The Overrated
From a Happening Bar
Staggered into his car
And after forty miles
Still rich in The Saved’s Smiles,
As he foully staggered out…
Against huge hopes of a lout
Of a crashing incident
If not a killing accident…

A character people hyped:
A wrong name on...

The Humpback
by Michael R. Burch

The humpback is a gullet
equipped with snarky fins.
It has a winning smile:
and when it SMILES, it wins
as miles and miles of herring
excite its fearsome grins.
So beware, unwary whalers,
lest you drown, sans feet and shins!

As a lovely lotus, holding her head high, dooms to fade…
So is the fate of which damn degradation does invade!

When the angel of democracy murdered and muted,
Could politics provide people protection well suited?

When disruption of home and strife for living grow thriving,
Doesn't, like corroding...
