Best Fondest Poems
For nine long long months I longed to greet you
We’ll if I’m perfectly honest …
You were so snug in your home you stayed for an extra ten days!
I had waited patiently for your arrival and couldn’t wait to hold you in my arms
Finally the day arrived and I discovered they don’t call it labour for nothing …
It was damn hard work!
But twenty-four hours later you arrived in the world
I guess every mother thinks her child is the most beautiful
You were gorgeous! With fine downy blonde hair and sapphire blue eyes
I counted your tiny fingers and toes
You were absolutely perfect
Later that evening I sat in a comfy chair to feed you
Looking out of the window I saw soft snowflakes swirling
It was so so beautiful tears started to fall
Now, whenever I see snowy scenes I think of you my precious son

MY FONDEST MEMORY
The two of us, diving into that wooden chest
Looking for that one dress, that one vest
That one large hat of straw
Those high heeled shoes with buckles of gold
In our eyes there was no flaw
Nothing cheap, it was a treasure to hold
I was the damsel in distress
She my saviour of noblesse
She wrote the words I had to say
A true director on Broadway
With everlasting patience
And seriously watching every move
Paid attention to my cadence
In her eyes I saw when she approved
My far too long gown conceals
My stumbling on those high heels
In the dark circumstances of my years
This memory shone bright as day
And saved me in every way
I am still here, smiling through my tears.

It was July when I watched an elderly man
Lounging on the same bench to gather his thoughts,
As fingers picked worn-out notes…bowing low
Seemingly atoning for his charmed one’s teardrops, done:
In the fringe of nightfall, I began my warm approach
While this stranger rolled on, hoping dreaming
His wife were around… a tired soul in need of love.
Every time I asked why, the old man shrugged,
“ Because, because”--- his voice trailing off
While we counted young stars on flight above…
His face mildly glowed from the sheen
Of moonlight: from his pocket, another letter blew,
Signed by his dear Roselyn, with a litany of praise
For a woman who cherished all their moments
Through rain and silence: how the fondness
In his eyes brought me to embrace
My own tears after my Mama kissed the clouds,
Same month as this… unknowingly,
He buzzed a tune Roselyn and Mom adored,
As if fate allowed us to drench in floats of serendipity.

Come gather ‘round me, children as I leave
Countless as stars and I am pleased
Most of you older ones bring me most joy
When I call, how you make my heart soar
Some late nights when sleep takes a hike
You enwrap me in a warm embrace tight
As we stroll through life’s broadening lanes
Picture-perfect glimpses of you remain
This new home will be my final abode
No negativity fits in- peace it erodes
Have no regrets, each one has a place
The universe is a wide open space
The moment, you my fondest was born
I recorded you like my favorite song
Now, I go where I can not take you all
So come, fondest memory as to sleep we fall

There are so many fondest memories
that I've accumulated thru the years;
but going back to when I was so young,
there's one that I remember most of all.
I was an only child till age of three,
but then a gift, my baby brother came.
Our front door opened, there he was so small,
and magically they placed him in my arms.
I still remember this as such a thrill...
just like my dolly, but so very real,
with softest cheeks, a tiny rosebud mouth
and cutest booties on his tiny feet.
So many years have passed, but that strong bond
remains intact now in our winter years.
Yet that sweet vision when at first we met,
still fills my heart with warmth until this day.

Blank verse
Remember when you sat beside me
And then looked up to glance my way?
Your eyes, they seemed to look inside me.
I knew that very day
The way I felt; I can't deny it-
That something drew my heart to you:
I could not conquer nor defy it
Till I knew if yours did too,
If what I thought was true.
Remember how I came to meet and know you?
You asked to see the ring I wore.
I held it up so I could show you;
A thing I'd never done before.
You said yours aggravated you some
When playing music all day long;
I said I played piano too, some,
And we played a little song
Which soon turned into two.
In time you were my friend forever,
We shared our secrets and our plans;
And everywhere we went together
Friends saw us holding hands.
We climbed a mountain in the twilight;
The stars winked on for you and me.
Your eyes shone brightly in the moonlight-
Such a pretty melody.
That's all that I could see.
Right then I knew that we were meant to be;
I meant for you and you for me,
To be together for eternity
Through storm or through tranquility.
I came to realize that I need you
Every moment of each day:
I chose that milestone to read you
Poems written to convey
The words I could not say.
And now I play a song and sing
Because I wear a brand new ring.

Lyric
Missing my childhood
playing games in the streets with friends
sip water from hose
Sneaking to the store
Buy junk food before dinner
get in big trouble
Walking far with friends
ride the bike far to the beach
beat the street lights home
Rushing home from school
erase the teacher message
before mom get home
My first childhood crush
was a player broke my heart
gave me my first kiss

I stare across this lonely room
at your picture on the shelf!
All your lovely memories
have me feeling sorry for myself!
It's been awhile since you've been gone,
but doesn't seem that way.
I feel you're with me all the time,
each and every day!
I try so hard to carry on
and do the best I can.
I find it near impossible
to accept it like a man!
My friends and family give support
to help me through these times.
I know it's up to me to straighten out,
and that's the bottom line!
So I'll have a talk with the Man upstairs
and pray He'll help me face the fact,
that you're up there with him now,
and you're not coming back!
So, Honey, there you have it.
You'll always be my wife,
but, you're not with me anymore,
I have to get on with my life!
That is my intention,
that's what I plan to do.
My fondest wish when I expire,
is to be, up there again, with you!

First his long and tender gaze. Then came his loving caresses
followed by little kisses, delicate dewdrops of sensuous sweetness
that he planted gently along my forehead, my cheeks,
the back of my neck, and around my ear lobes.
Happiness consumed me!
Butterfly kisses he showed me
with the long lashes of his beautiful dark eyes
fluttering like tiny wings against my own.
I giggled next as he rubbed his nose to mine;
The Eskimo way, he said.
As he stroked my back, his fingers lingered at my waist.
Unlike others before him, he did not grab for my body
with the clumsiness of a boy.
He let his smooth kisses linger too
so when at last I felt his tongue inside my mouth,
it was the sweetest of invasions. . . . .
Neither did he press for more than I was prepared to give,
for I was a woman-child, still clinging to chasteness,
and though I’d known him but a short time,
this magical moment was to be our one night together
before he returned to a country where I would never go.
Our brief time would become the fondest of my memories -
one to be rekindled time and time again through poetry.

I turn back the clock
to when my sister and I played on the sidewalk.
She was the leader and I was the protégé.
Oh, what a devil she was at play each day,
she got me in so much trouble trying to be her!
Those fond memories go by in a blur . . .
Two little girls so much alike- yet different,
we did things together magnificent . . .
Mom said we could be belligerent!
This is the fondest memory, that I keep
of Suzanne - buried deep.

Gramps
George Morris was my Gramps, a real fine man.
He was a Poitier or Cary Grant.
We went to the Island they call Coney,
and on his back, I’d ride the giant waves.
I’d laugh so hard he’d feel my stomach shake.
Which made him give almost a slight "Ha, Ha"
He said, ‘’You need to close your mouth real tight,
or you will end up with a lunch of sea.''
Upon his back I waited for the next.
It was a wave as big as all that day.
I closed my mouth as we sailed straight to shore,
and when it broke we both loosed "Ha Ha Ha."
How nice it was to share, just he and I,
the surf, the sand, the ocean and sea air.
My first time at a Raw Bar eating clams,
fond traces of the good times that we had.

On the first of every month
Grandpa trimmed his salt and pepper beard
Polished his big black shoes to a shine
Put on a crisp shirt and creased trousers
Held by a weathered leather belt
For his trip to the bank to collect his pension
He bought sweets and snacks of many kinds
Then neatly folded old newspaper to
Make square pieces with a knife
Placed each grandchild’s share in those fresh plates
And waited for them to arrive
Felt like a festival each month
We rushed exceptionally fast from school
Trotting to his room to claim our share
He then pressed a coin in each one’s hand
Unleashing dreams of what all we could buy with that
Rest of the bounty
He stored in a rectangular wicker basket
Secured with a tiny steel lock
The key to the trove he shared only with me because
I was the favorite grandchild
And that was a fact, not a secret
My brothers and sisters flattered and cajoled me
Till the lock hung on the basket
Everyone kowtowing to the crown
Grandpa put on my head
Glittering with his love and trust
How I was the queen for a week each month!

My fondest memory is of your birth my love.
We fit together like hand in glove.
I wanted you so badly I cannot tell.
Your love took me from my living hell.
Although you could not communicate.
I read your mind, make no mistake.
I felt your love through your touch.
Never knew that I could love so much.
Having you has made my life complete.
Although you've left me now to find your feet.
Goodbye my child, my precious pet.
My soul's delighted your soul I've met.

MY FONDEST MEMORY
("MY HOMETOWN - ODESSA, UKRAINE/MY FAVORITE PLACE")
I wake up to the crispness of the air
Nature is still
Outside the snow has formed into perfectly shaped mounds
The frost has framed the windows into decorative designs
Branches sway in a rhythmic pattern
There’s a stillness inside
My grandma is preparing bouillon and hearty beef stew
I look outside and catch the smiling rays of the sun dancing on the snow banks
Trees scrape the sky as they stand like an army line receiving its orders
There’s a comfort and familiarity in the air as the day is beckoning to start
Nature smiles
Winds sway in unison moving to the undulating rhythm of the atmosphere
I marvel at the tranquil scene as I immerse myself in a novel
The story takes me away to a far-away destination
I feel safe and content as I wrap myself in a cushion of comfort
I am at peace….
