The Elephant
By Franklin Price
3/2/2016
The elephant, the animal
The mascot of the red
A party controlled by very few
Filling the people up with dread
They let a famous person run
As a Republican, a joke
Would capture all the media
But not be voted by the folk
Surprise, surprise did not work out
The people had their say
They chose the joke by voting
Did not vote the party way
Now the party's scrambling
Bad mouthing all they can
To negate the population's vote
For the joke, who's now the man
The elephant's resigning
The replacement is the pig
Who wallows deeper in the mud
Provides the pork the party digs
We are all immigrants
We all have temporary residence here
This land is ours and theirs, yours and mine
We are humanity, stronger joined than apart
Never turn your back on a hungry child
You may be in the right
Lacking compassion
Makes you wrong
The disciples were scolded
Let the children come unto me he said
Life is filled with hardships, yes we all have suffered
So let your suffering hold some merit
Lay down your guns and loud voices
If only for the children
If you dance and celebrate for them
They shall lead you on to peace on earth
Note: A famous person once said "When they love their children, more than they hate us, we shall have peace"
In the middle of the night a door slams
The awful scent of cigarettes floats upward penetrates my nostrils
Insomnia keeps him up and restless
Lying here I hear, smell and know that the worst is yet to come
Huntington's Disease slowly destroys brain cells
Mutant form of huntingtin aggregrates within the brain
It touches the connectors and interfers with the synaps
Extra dopamine causes his need for instant gratification
I taste the tears as they spill tumbling down
Feel the his fear, his terror of what lies ahead
I can hear his hurtful words as his temper flairs
Thankful for his hugs when he is calm
I am glad that he is able to work for inability lies ahead
Unless some researcher somewhere finds a treatment
If not only downhill slide is inevidible
Destruction of the brain will leave him unable to even swallow
Let my tears spill down, overflow touch upon my face
Taste the salt as they touch my lips
Let me face the daylight hours with courage and strength
Today he might stumble and fall into the horrors of the disease

Guts, Determination Blood Sweat and Tears
Who can say they have not used that combination
That is the combination that makes famous people, heroes and idles
What is the difference between famous people, heroes, idles and you
The amount of followers
Let’s look at a famous people/ heroes/ idles
They have the guts to do something different
They have the determination to do it the best they can
They have hurt themselves for what they believe in
They have cried when it all went wrong
They have raised a sweat just to get it right
I want you to look at your life
Through the eyes of your family
You have the guts to make your family get out of bed
You have the determination to help your family be better than you
You have lost blood for each member of your family
You have sweated your butt off to ensure comfort for your family
You have shed a tear more than once for you family
Why do we like famous people, heroes and idles
Because they do something better than we can
They make what they do look easy
Famous people give us ideas, dreams and hope
But most of all
Famous people, heroes and idles are people that we admire
You have become a master at what you do
Day by day you give love
Day by day you give hope
Day by day you share dreams
Month after month your kids keep coming back to you
With out knowing what you have done
You have year after year
Created a hero for your kids to idolize
You have given advice to your friends
You have shown kindness
You always manage to give away a smile when it is most needed
You have had a positive effect on others as well
You are:
My Idol
My Hero
My famous person
we live in a star struck society being a celebrity is now the game
we seem to cheer louder for professional athletes and people with well known names
we also have a desire to be just like them if we could choose
and many feel that being a celebrity is the key to the fountain of youth
but what people fail to see or even comprehend
is that celebrities are nothing more than mere women and men
and that there is no special powers that a famous person obtains
just because everybody knows your face and your name
and when it come to Jesus He doesn't care about your status nor place
He will welcome you in the spirit of love, mercy and grace
He will sit at the table with you and share a simple meal
some bread and wine in the spirit of communion and an acceptance so real
God does not care if you're a celebrity or a superstar
if that were the case the Bible would not mention the women with the alabaster jar
she was not a woman of status, wealth nor celebrity
but she gave what she could to acknowledge Jesus' godly authority
yet those men in the room rebuked her for her generous act
until Jesus stood up for her in the midst of their verbal attack
He told them "leave her alone, as for Me she has done a good thing"
she gave Me her best, she anointed Me with fine oil as her true King
what people can't understand nor comprehend
is that by doing things in Jesus' name blessings God will send
she broke open that alabaster jar she opened her soul to Christ
she gave what she could she gave the best that she had in life
give what you can that is all that Lord God desires
for you to give from the heart and with true faith to be inspired
to understand that being famous is not such a big to-do
but to be recognized by God and know that He loves you
Cynosure
Umm..cynosure... what does that mean?
Oh yes, I see...something supreme.
Like dignitary, celeb, sight;
a focal point, or nucleus.
A stunner, prodigy, limelight,
a treasure, magnate, omphalos.
A hero, luminary, ace,
centrality, big gun, big name.
A famous person, worthy place,
or major leaguer of some fame.
A star, a personality;
a spotlight, center of it all.
Exemplar and epitome;
an archetype, original.
Top brass, top dog, a spectacle,
a wonderment or quintessence.
An act of God, a miracle;
immortal, beauty, eminence.
Umm...cynosure...now understood.
To me, it means...superbly good.

Santa The Fat-Bellied Stranger
You know Batman and Robin
and Shakespeare and Poe
Oprah and Elvis
And Monet and Van Gogh
But do you recall
The most famous person of all?
Santa the fat-bellied stranger
(stranger)
Had a tummy full of ho's
(like Pavarotti)
And if he ever tried to
(tried to)
Couldn't even see his toes
(like a horse)
Now that he's getting older
(older)
With impotence and bum knees
(like McCain)
They never let poor Santa
(santa)
Savour all his common glees
(like Mrs. Claus)
Then one lonely Christmas Eve
Blue pill down the hatch
(please oh please)
Oh meds to my wife's delight
Won't you guide my libido tonight
Mrs. Claus from that day forward
(forward)
Always shouted out with glee
(have mercy)
"Santa you fat-bellied stranger
(stranger)
You'll go down in history!"
(like Casanova)

(This is in response to the Poem
POETRY written by Richard Lamoureux)
I make the most sound but no noise
You'll hear me alright sans my voice.
Richard, look in my face there's no smile
But I won you over standing away many a mile.
Don't I tug at your heart though we haven't met?
You haven't seen any of my magic tricks yet!
Equally at home in a palace or a shanty shack
I have everything I need, nothing more I lack.
Oh, I do fall in; and ya, often fall out of love,
But I am not a cheat, I guess, by Jove!
But here's where we fall apart
A famous person is but a spoiled brat!
What I write, I do not retract or rewrite,
I get called out often, but I know I'm right.
But on one matter you and I do agree
The power of poetry do sets our spirits free!
So here is a poetic challenge for you, Mr. Lamoureux
Pick any of my poems to respond and make me fret or vex!!
Have you ever heard of that famous Tom Brady?
His deflated balls can’t even chase off the ladies.
But he’s a legend that football has seemly created,
so I named my puppy Brady...but his balls not deflated.
