Best Determinedly Poems

Premium Member The Dress

It was the last year of high school and there was a lack of beaux,
But then I got an invite. Whew, that was close!
So now the Prom was coming and I was going to go!
Mom gassed up for the city, headed out with me in tow,
Big stores all hunched together on a tall and scary street,
One dress along a rack with just repeat, repeat, repeat.

But Mom found a creation in an entirely different place,
Moulded tulle and satin, fairy dust and moonlit lace!
I thought she was kidding though the thing was just my size.
I was worried; fairy tales don't often turn out to be wise.
And the price tag is ridiculous! I said Mom take a look!
She plunked it down determinedly, tore a check out of the book.

That left a lot for me to do. My looks are commonplace.
New makeup and new lipstick; how about new face?
Silken shoes, a tiny purse, it's a lot of stress
Just trying to live up to this fantastic dress!
Rhinestone droplets dangle dangerous from my ear,
My long hair piled up high. How much taller I appear!

Prom night came...Poor Tommy! I was done up to impress.
My hair swept up, my makeup on, long earrings and the Dress!
He stood there in the doorway, uncertain in his tux,
Black tie, stiff shirt; this is getting all too much!
The corsage he held between us was carnations glowing red.
He looked up cautiously and ventured; "Is that you, Bo?" he said.

Premium Member Long Forsaking

Faraway, across a widening
Expanse of vacant fields,
Dawns slated light is gradually
Awaking;
And too soon new Morn's stilled
Indifference
Determinedly steals
Into the abstractions of my fitful
Dreams,
Where, deeply concealed,
Many forgotten memories from days
Since past -
Ne'er once unto me unworthy...
Although long be they in their
Forsaking.

Those languid days, that, lately,
I quite often see and hear
Crowding throughout my wandering
Slumbers;
Vivid recollections, interns of a
Jumbled mind - for ages absent,
Beginning now to inexplicably reappear;
Insistent murmurings troubling -
Troubling incessantly:-
Unwelcomed guests from
Yesteryear...

Strange impositions, of a sorts,
Burdening upon this weary soul,
Which, encamped within my
Dampened Spirits -
Doth so unwittingly encumber!

Premium Member Choosing To Punish Myself

A zig of happiness sparked the upper peninsulas
Of my wildebeest heart, a mere tich.
Could that teensy beginning shake my
Anger, which I had determinedly
Held onto for three weeks longer
Than anyone sane should have?

Come on, the spark said, laughing. Come
And play. We can be mad tomorrow.
I was not in the least bit tempted.
Stubbornness held me fast.

I refused her offer, the lifeline
She was giving me. I ignored the
Light, and held on to my
Enmeshed hurt feelings,

Holding onto my rage
As a shield, afraid of whom I
Might become without her.

Premium Member A Walk In Solitude

A walk-in solitude, putting one foot
over the other, stepping over roots
to listen to the flutes of nature lutes
and silent subtle shift that are afoot.

Away from mental incessant chatter,
solace for the fractious mind. A matter
of time, a sense of elation scatter
and the will to feel the fatigue shatter.

A shaded path tucked away in slumber
in surrounding walls of dark and umber
trees, woody vines, shrubs, and beast that lumber
a realm of nirvana in poised wonder.

Sitting on the ashen limbs and trendless
full of sculptured green, wood thrush nest, restless.
In air a reward glimmer of breathless
hope in a grove of balm doth shine zestless.

Treading determinedly upward, the tree
sunshade is thinning, revealing a sea
of cadet blue sky, glorious to see.
Leaving the world behind upon the breeze.

Premium Member The Palm-Chats of Jalousie, Haiti

After Agnes Krampe

Upon a lone palm,
they build their communal
nest —determinedly— but pause
to study the berry-hued
cinder blocks of the hillside
shanty town, short lives
stacked on short lives.

One bird watches
the woman plucking laundry
from a fraying washline
as if shirts were passion fruit
on a vine, as if the vibrant reds
could placate hunger.

Another bird eyes
several threads unraveling,
temptingly soft, so close,
but the woman looks up
stays the flight as she entreats,
will you not sing me a new song,
will you never fly me home?

Glong, Glong, Glong

G..long, G..long, G..long,
It was so intriguing
The G..long sound
Trumpeting elephant?

No elephant here said..
Greville the greedy goat,
Sim the swaying giraffe
even Lind the chaffinch.
In deprecating way
Vee then laughed mockingly
Well, he couldn't help it
Being a hyena!

Exasperated Saul
determinedly stamped off
to ask Arc, the owl

He found him fast asleep
G..long, G..long, G..long
said Saul in Arc's right ear
Fluttering his feathers
Arc woke suddenly
Then eyeball to eyeball
Saul asked Arc politely.
"What makes a G..long sound?"

Silence was prevailing
until they both jumped at..
hearing the "sound!"
G..long, G..long, G..long!

Saul ran and Arc flew down
Here was the distinct sound,
which was getting nearer,

Saul's capuchin monkey
Kareen came into view.
Arc peered downwards
WHAT WAS ON..... Kareen's feet?

OVERSIZED GALOSHES!!!

G..long, G..long, G..long!
Was heard the flapping sound
As Kareen, head held high,
nonchalantly strolled by

Saul and Arc exchanged looks
Arc's disapproving one
with Saul's embarrassment
glowing red on his cheeks.
Saul beat a quick retreat

As Arc chuckled aloud! ......

The Soldier Guard At the Tomb

I was silently watching the two Mary’s sigh and cry,
When the earthquake hit and I just wanted to cover,
The ground nearly parted and there was no-one to chi,
I hit the deck for stones from the tomb threw over.

Covering my head with my hands and laying tight up,
I was aware of the two Mary’s moving over speedily,
To the tomb stone to take advantage of the windup,
Which just contributed to the terror weighing heavily.

After six minutes it ceased, and peace did administer,
The two of them were straight at the caster right in there,
But I needed another while to recover from the disaster,
So just sat looking firstly at the grass, then over there.

By the time I got them they’d given the body determinedly,
To the gardener who already had lit it and was fanning it,
So I ran as fast as a chicken away from a fox very quickly,
Up the mountain to get my head straight to think about it.

I worked it out that I had to talk with the two Mary’s,
Because I also appreciated what Jesus did when alive,
Since he had cured my cousin from quadriplegic paralysis,
Such that this cousin’s possibility was now to thrive.

So I did decide to accept Mary’s plans of ingenuity,
For the continuation of her son’s work with the poor,
Which would change medical services directivity,
From the rich monopoly over to with anyone to moor.

The two woman’s plans would ignite a movement,
Start a Society, organisation or group to proclaim,
That the way to live was through love’s enrichment,
Not by class prized, but by living everyday in His name.

So we talked, and the two women promised me silence,
About my failure to keep the stone which sealed the tomb,
If I kept silence about them having a stealing licence,
And about their real physical action of removing the womb.

So that was how the resurrection myth took off, started,
That was how it began, it did come from two parties,
From the Roman soldier representing the state above,
And from Jesus’ kin representing the people’s armies.

I don’t think Christianity would’ve occurred without,
The soldier man Roman guard of the tomb believing,
In Jesus plight and in the right of a movement, shout,
About Jesus, through the religion of Christianity aging.

The Young Man and the Devil

"The Young Man And The Devil"

The Devil knew he only had three chances
to win over this Young Man in the wilderness!
He just knew he would prevail so easily,
he didn't realize this Young Man was blessed!

"If Thou Be The Son Of GOD",
"Command That These Stones Be Made Bread!"
He was saying this to a Man that for
forty days and forty nights had fasted!

The Young man looked the Devil in his eye
and said something the Devil found odd,
He said "Man Shall Not Live By Bread Alone,
But By Every Word That Proceedeth
Out Of The Mouth Of GOD!"

The Devil was really taken aback so he took
the Young Man up quite a height higher,
set Him upon the pinnacle of the Temple
and he went back to being a Liar!

"Why Don't You Throw Yourself Down From Here?"
"The Angels Will Come Bear You Up!"
The Young man replied
"Thou Shalt Not Tempt The LORD Thy God!"
Two of the three chances were now used up!

The Devil was determinedly desperate,
he was down to his final chance!
He had to come up with something
to get this Young Man to do his dance!

He took the Young Man to the highest mountain,
and showed Him the World's Kingdoms
and all their Glory!
"If You Bow Down And Worship Me,
This Is All Yours!"
But that's not the end of the story!

The Young Man looked the Devil in his eye
and He then threw him this curve,
He said "Thou Shalt Worship The LORD,
Thy God, And Him Only Shalt Thou Serve!"

Dejected, rejected and feeling the sting
of these three in a row losses,
the Devil cried out "How can this be?,
Why didn't this work?
What were the causes???"

The Young Man looked the Devil in his eye,
stood tall and had this to say,
"I will always be here,
and you will have me to fear, for
"I Am The Truth, The Life And The Way!"

Fashioned In Heaven,Realized On Earth

Two love birds collide
Different world
Different cities
Different colour
A tale of two cities

Like a
cinderella
story...

The groom
chocolatey
The bride
lights up

What an
attraction
Between
Unlike
poles...

When the
chocolate
enters
The bride
lights up his
world

He said he
loved her
He pursued
determinedly
He was
focused
and
 patient....
And he got
his "Prize"...

As the day
drew nigh...
For the walk
on the aisle
Everyone in
high spirits...
Preparations
all the way..
To make it a
day
Dat lasts
long in the
memory

Trumpets
blowing..
Drums
banging
Dancers
strutting
their stuff

 Standstill...the
order of the
day
All nooks
and
crannies
filled

For just two
people
Destined to
be *father
and mother*
Of many
nations*

Union that
has been
God-
ordained
To
transform
and mould
lives
With Jesus
at the
Epicentre..

The rivers of
excitement
flows
through my
bloodstream
Now its a
month of
God-fulfilled
promise
Tick tock
says the
clock....
A month in
no time
Will lead to
a year
And to a
decade....
Double
decades...
and
many more
If Jesus
tarries....

God will
*jinki* you
with seeds
 That will
continue
your vision...
And your
parental
roles fulfilled
You shall
not lax
 in
your
responsibilities
To
yourselves....
And seeds....

You are an
eagle
Destined to

You shall

Brighter

You shall

 Like never

Dances With My Muse

Dear Muse,

sometimes
you are dull, senseless,
paralyzingly, protractedly mute.
You determinedly adhere to the dancehall wall,
no magic spell conjuring
when melodies swell;
instead, you seem repelled by the score,
whether upbeat or quiet.

Limp, lifeless limbs refuse to be lifted
to perform,
lend shape to the theme,
your mouth does not open to give me
words that will live on my pen,
you disdain to even begin
but are sepulchral, voiceless,
stifled.
No stimulation stirs,
imagination is dormant,
static,
seemingly dead.

I inhabit the dance floor alone.

Sometimes
you are a ready partner,
we blithely dance the night
with effervescent steps,
ethereal,
fast or slow, we go
circling the gleaming floor.
You, so stately and steady,
shape me to the charms of your tango or waltz.

My gown drifts,
lifts with the spell of movement,
turning and spinning or sensuously drifting,
bending me to your elegant flow.
The music you choose holds me captive
crescendos and quiets in turns,
it yearns and yawns in my marrow,
burns like a lover desiring release.

Emotional waves sweep my psyche,
feelings that never knew names,
flames and ices tormenting,
beauties and wonders transcending.

Ink swirls drape on pale parchment
birthing images
like caged birds of exquisite plumage
once freed
soar with wind in their wings.

Persuading the proud of the Spirit’s work decisively
Warning the skeptics of imminent judgments dauntlessly.

Let’s please God with our trust while communicating for Him earnestly
Standing with sanctified posture enthusiastically

Influencing others through good work’s gestures emphatically
Expressing sweet fellowship with the Lord endearingly.

Let’s please God with our sacrifice while delivering His tidings of peace faithfully
Enunciating “Thus saith the Lord” counsels factually

Verbalizing the great commission gratefully.

Let’s please God with our gratitude while declaring divine promises habitually
Praising His Deity in worshipping the Trinity heartily
Exalting His name in teaching His doctrines honestly
Honouring His presence in living for Him healthily
Testifying of His awesomeness in yielding to Him humbly.

*Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
