Long Forsaking

Faraway, across a widening Expanse of vacant fields, Dawns slated light is gradually Awaking; And too soon new Morn's stilled Indifference Determinedly steals Into the abstractions of my fitful Dreams, Where, deeply concealed, Many forgotten memories from days Since past - Ne'er once unto me unworthy... Although long be they in their Forsaking. Those languid days, that, lately, I quite often see and hear Crowding throughout my wandering Slumbers; Vivid recollections, interns of a Jumbled mind - for ages absent, Beginning now to inexplicably reappear; Insistent murmurings troubling - Troubling incessantly:- Unwelcomed guests from Yesteryear... Strange impositions, of a sorts, Burdening upon this weary soul, Which, encamped within my Dampened Spirits - Doth so unwittingly encumber!

I may have mentioned this before, but your writing style really reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe's works... I loved the whole mood and atmosphere of this poem, John. Very, very well penned, as always... Indeed, the ghosts of our past are never far away...

I can really relate to this fine poem, John. It perfectly describes the times I've been at peace when suddenly--there it comes, the unpleasant memory of something I thought I'd completely recovered from years before! Janice

Thanks, Janice -Your comments are spot on! I suppose the older we get it is only natural to gather a few recriminations and disappointments about us...It is all acquired baggage of a sorts. The trick is--not to let it keep you down! Just one more of the many reasons we all write poetry. Good to see you visiting again, Janice--My warmest regards - Cheers! :) john

This poem really spoke to me, John, especially the second stanza. Thank you for speaking so clearly what is in the darker recesses of my own mind. You are such a warm personality, I pray you take solace in what I am sure are many, many friendships and earned blessings.

Thank you, Kathy. Indeed the poem was written when I was, briefly, at somewhat of a low ebb...I suppose this happens now and again to most people throughout their lives. Much better now though - fully reinvigorated! Many thanks for visiting and leaving such nice comments, Kathy...and let us hope we will have the time and opportunity to both pen some more poetry very soon. All my very best, Kathy - Cheers! :) john

When it is quiet and still at night burdensome unresolved feelings flood the mind. It becomes so difficult to shut the mind off and insomnia loves that kind of atmosphere. I used to suffer from it but have been sleeping much better now I am over the bronchitis. I could relate very well to your creative words John. So nice to see you post again my friend: )

Your poem evokes that uneasy feeling of fitful sleep troubled by intruding thoughts that are vaguely uncomfortable... great description of a sensation that is difficult to describe. Glad to read from you!

This one is quite interesting, John. Trying to put your finger on a feeling that is not easy to express except through well described phrases of imagery as you have used here. I enjoy when you do shorter poems like this one! The length of it was perfect.
