Best Cowboy Westernme Poems
Have no idea where I am off to
I am bot lost, cause I have been found
My job is done here, the best I can see
Roll my bed and grab a thing or two
Going to be looking for some new ground
You see it is about being free
If the Sun comes up tomorrow
I know that I will get an early start
Come evening and where it sets
Where I will hang my hat without any sorrow
Sleep well and no anger in my heart
Been a good life with no regrets
From outfit to outfit has been my life
A tumbleweed and a rolling stone
Never was one to like a barb wire fence
Life is to short for all of this strife
With his love I have never been alone
Living by my wits and using common sense
If it is my time to go and my number is up
I won't be one to keep the Good Lord waiting
I know that the angels will take me up Angel Trail
About out of coffee, maybe one more cup
Maybe some old grounds for re heating
And the head out on a new trail
It is not a end, but a new beginning
The trail has been twisted and long
Sometimes I got tired and took a nap
In the end it is all about winning
I have been promised he will forgive me of all my wrong
"No Sir, I do not need a map"
Most old ranches in the West, have a history of their past
Legends and tales about ranching in hard time
Blood, sweat, tears and a lot of elbow grease
The at the 5Y, those days are long past
The last 40 years it has been nothing but crime
Day and night, there is no real peace
July, 1976, I was shoeing horses for a living
Southern, New Mexico, the Sun was jalepeno hot
Pulled up to the 5Y, before it got to warm
Was supposed to be a horse breeding farm, but that was deceiving
Something about that day I never forgot
I knew that I was in for a storm
The owner's name was Sawford, had not bathed in days
In his office, a metal table, dirty mattress. bottle of whiskey and a .45
Told me where the mares were at, would pay me when I was done
I started to think about changing my ways
A gut feeling told me to work fast, if I was going to get out alive
Sweating like a fool, it was not all the Sun
Four miles to the border, many strange things happen there
At lunch, I stopped for a bite to eat
Found a tree near by, so I sat in the shade
A big black Lime drove up, driven by a pair
In business suits, Sawford they were there to meet
It was his day to get paid
I knew it was Mafiaoso, but i did not want to know why?
I went to pounding iron and driving nails
When i finished he gave me a $100 and to keep the change
I wanted to be out if there and did want to die
And all I could think of was "Happy Trails"
It was no longer "Home On The Range"
By sending, "The Old Witch" a Bible,I knew I would get a reaction
Deep down inside, she knew that God's word would bring her down
She called all her demons to get me
My elimination, was the only thing that would bring her satisfaction
She called the El Paso Police, she controls the law in El Paso town
"Throw him in jail and throw away the key"
In a cafe eating lunch, the parking lot filled with police cars
I knew that I was the target, I had to stay calm
With gun drawn, six surrounded me
I knew that I would be behind bars
"Like throwing water on a witch", she thought it was a bomb
But in his way, God would set me free
In shackles and chains, they took me to a cell
Had a Kangaroo court, set for my demise
Judge Alex Gonzales said, "This is a serious offense"
Got six months, she was happy I was in her living Hell
But I knew that it was not a crime in God's eyes
This insanity, made no common sense
When I got to jail, I got a Bible to read
Set me at ease, made the time go fast
I knew that it was the one thing that would se3t me free
And his word were the strength that I would need
No matter how evil the spell she had cast
Criminals to them we all are, Jesus was with me
~~~Cowboys~~~
When I was a kid I wanted to live
On the Ponderosa, a cowgirl I'd be.
The daughter-in-law of Ben Cartwright
And Little Joe would marry me.
Cowboys stoked my imagination,
Made me dream of times gone by.
They were men who were strong and brave
And many a cowboy caught my eye.
Westerns I watch, I'm an avid fan.
The cowboys always make me smile.
I daydream along and wish myself there
If only for a little while.
So if you want to catch my eye
Just wear a stetson and a pair of tight jeans.
Then you're halfway to winning my heart
For my interest towards cowboys leans.
Lord, I ain't good at prayin', I hope You'll fergive me fer that,
But I need to pause by this Colorady spruce fer a little chat.
It's been a very tryin' day a-herdin' dogies an' fixin' fences,
So please lend Yer ear whilst I unwind an' enjoy Yer vast expanses.
Lord, it's been mighty hot an' dusty on th' lonely trail today;
Sometimes I wonder why I cowboy - it shore ain't fer the pay.
But I love Yer wide-open ranges, fer me that's my compensation.
I'll never cease to wonder at th' grandeur uv Yer Creation!
Lord, help me to allus take plenty uv time to look an' ponder,
At th' majesty uv that snow-capped mountain range over yonder.
May I allus savor th' smell uv sagebrush an' fragrant pine,
An' th' sunsets that You paint jes' fer me that are so divine.
You know I git irate a-herdin' them wily cows and steers,
An' I git to cussin' which is so displeasin' to Yer ears.
Yer within Yer rights to brand me th' worst sinner on th' earth,
But, Lord, I'm a-tryin' to do my best to live a life uv worth.
Lord, I'm a-thankin' Ye fer th' good an' faithful hoss I ride,
Even fer Cooky's chuck uv beans an' bacon that I must abide.
I can't thank Ye enough for Yer forgiveness an' faithful love;
I hope You'll see fit to brand me fer Yer heavenly corral above!
The desert wind calls me to it's vast desolation ---
There is something about it's emptiness that fills my imagination ---
The cactus are now in full and wonderful bloom ---
They look beautiful in the moon's nocturnal glow ---
In the far distance is an inviting oasis ---
Calling me to bravely journey there ---
Past the bones of those who tried before.
I help herd the cattle to market far away.
I am riding high in the saddle each day.
I travel many miles, and then some more.
That makes me quite tired and saddle sore.
The sun bakes me until I’m red and dry.
The ordeal is enough to make a lesser man cry.
Each trip is dry, dusty, and dirty.
It’s a difficult job, but it’s my duty.
Executive decision
I ain't an executive and I'll tell you why
Cause I couldn't wear no suit and tie
Give me my Stetson and my cowboy shirt
My wore out blue jeans all covered in dirt
Put me in a board room
It would spell doom
I'd act real threatful
Then pull out my pistol
Then I'd cock back the hammer
And pull on the trigger
I'd scream and laugh and act real cuckoo
and let someone else clean up the poo
I used to wear a white cowboy's hat,
but here in New York folks gave me funny looks for my choice.
" You must have a real cowboy's grit!"
" Go down Texas and learn that accent with a high-pitched voice!"
" Were they really so insensitive to insult my intelligence?"
Stubborn as I was, their comments fell on my deaf ear,
and as they got closer...I greeted them as a true gentleman would;
oh, they showed no sympathy through a gaze of fear!
" Did I resemble an outlaw or appeared to them too shady and cold?"
" Did they redicule me for wearing a cowboy's hat that was too broad?
" Non sense!" I said with a tone of a rebel wanting to start a fight...
"Cowboys have always been my favorite heroes of the Wild West!"
" Who dared to say to William Picket or Charles Goonight...
that their hats were too wide to suggest an imminent threat?"
"Keep your mouth shut, don't look if you don't like my hat!"
As a faithful mate she'd followed
When he vowed to tame the West.
There her life had not been easy.
She had done her very best.
Though the loneliness was endless
When he led the nomad life
Of a cattle trailing cowboy,
She was still his patient wife.
Far from genteel East and doctors,
She had just ignored the pain.
He found this short note beside her
When he came back home again.
Lay me not in mausoleum
Entombed in an airless cave.
Bury me upon the prairie
Let a field stone mark my grave.
I was never much for grandeur,
Simple ginghams mine to wear.
Dress me not in silks and satins
Just to see me lying there.
Bury me upon the prairie,
Which so long has been my home.
Bury me among the wildflowers
Where so often I would roam.
Until wakened for the judgement
By the trumpets up above,
Let me lie in sweet surrender
To the West I've learned to love.
I met a lanky ol' feller th' other day,
An' I want ter tell ya'll about 'im if'n I may.
An' ol' slouch hat was pulled down on his pate,
An' he ambled along at a leisurely gait.
Slightly bowed legs says he'd spent years in th' saddle.
His steely-eyed glare would make a rattlesnake skedaddle!
His flowin' mustaches drooped down b'low his jaw.
In his cheeks wuz a huge wad uv terbaccy chaw!
He wuz leadin' a handsome cattle cuttin' cayuse.
Let me tell ya'll uv his skill with a stream of terbaccy juice.
Why, its been told 'round these parts fer years,
That frum fifty paces he kin pin back a jack rabbit's ears!
"Well, it's time to go ter work", rails the boss,
An' he climbs aboard his good and faithful hoss.
Ridin' all day long, th' fences to mend, and,
Gittin' ready to round up the dogies to brand!
Pete tol' me he'll never herd cows in a pick-up truck,
Nor eat grub frum no fancy eatery fer chuck.
He'll keep ridin' th' range on his devoted ol' horse,
Cowboyin' th' ol' ways with absolutely no remorse!
As he walks by I stop and stare
It happens every single day
He catches me so unaware
And words just can’t convey
He’s perfect at it’s very best
I’m drawn to him like I’m possessed
There is no other that competes with him
His body is so sleek and prim
I wish on him like he’s a star
Who is this Adonis to real me in
His name is Mr. Leo Nickel Bar,
It may be hard for you to digest
If you met him, you would be impressed
Being around him should be a sin
With bloodlines like his, of course he’ll win
He passes all competition by far
A horse like him there has never been
His name is Mr. Leo Nickel Bar
Y'all don't believe me
when I say I love the countryside
I'll be putting up my hen house
in the middle of the open field
Run me through the mazes
hours and hours
I'll find that little 'ole creek
I'll find what I'm searching for
that fireside music
and relaxing on the porch at night
That's where I can see myself
take things slower
and open the world
because life's a climb
but the view is great
and it's up to me how high I'll go
I'll keep searching
till I find my home
wherever that may be
Smiley - just take me home
The prairie lies flat, not a tree in sight,
The sun's fading fast and soon will be night.
The blades of grass sway and bend in the breeze,
No movement abound, but for the birds and the bees.
Off in the distance a plume of smoke,
The lump I can't swallow for fear I might choke.
I dare not think of the dangers at hand,
What on earth has brought me to this wild, untamed land?
Free land they said and a chance for a better life,
One for myself, my children and my wife.
Fresh food from our garden, tended by our own hand,
Riches rewarded with loving care from the land.
Clear running water and fish in the stream,
I couldn't have asked for a better man's dream.
To have you beside me as lover and friend,
The hardships and triumphs we'll see to the end.
We'll raise up our family, according to God's will,
And when this life's over, burry me atop yonder hill.
In heaven we'll meet, beside God's pearly gate,
Please don't rush darling, forever I'll wait.
