Love is the cacophony of life,
the stillness of your lover’s breath in sleep,
the boa constrictor hug of a grandchild,
and the outstretched arms of Christ.

Privy Call

So here's a who's who is the Zoo,
Sue the snake petter, that's who,
She was hugged by the Boa Constrictor,
Who could eat her but only licked her,
And scared it out of her in the loo.

Animal Magnetism

A pet more exotic I'd wanted.

A pet to be groomed and then flaunted.

not a dog or a cat

something cooler than that!

I began my search feeling undaunted

In a pet store I came on a ferret.

Such a pain he was! How did I bear it?

Under doors and through cracks

He'd escape from me. AAAACH!!

So I traded him in for a parrot.

Well, the parrot just wanted to fly!

And that bird knew more bad words than I.

When he called me a whore,

I threw open the door:

“Now you’re getting your wish, Bird. BYE BYE!

A boa constrictor I bought,

He’d like to be cuddled, I thought,

But he wrapped and he squeezed,

As I gasped and I wheezed,

And offered the rat that I’d caught.

A bowl of piranha I won -

I played Baccarat with a nun -

And they wiggled their bums,

So I tickled their tums,

But bones ’stead of fingers aint fun.

My elderly aunt sent a text,

Suggesting tarantulas next,

But my spider alas,

Took a bite of my ass:

My pet-owning hobby is hexed.

I went to the pet shop, I swear,

But nothing I wanted was there -

To my pets I am prey,

So I went on eBay,

And purchased a big teddy bear.

Premium Member The Challenge of Eating French Onion Soup

My favorite dining place in town is a place called La Baguette.
'Tis a quaint French café and I haven't found its equal yet.
They serve the most scrumptious French onion soup west of Gay Paree,
And it is slurped by discriminating snobs as well as we bourgeoisie!

They serve other grub such as baguettes and burgundy beef stews,
Escargot, pate, salad maison and an assortment of cheese fondues.
And Monday through Friday they ladle bowls of soup du jour,
But each and every day they serve French onion soup for sure!

Eating French onion soup is a challenge and requires a bit of skill,
Especially, dealing with the stringy cheese in that delectable swill.
The glob of provolone clings like a boa constrictor to my spoon,
And dangles from my noble chin making me look somewhat like a goon!

De mal en pis (just when my dilemma has gone from bad to worse),
Faire bonne mine (to put a good face on matters) I tend to curse.
To save face, next time I'll ask the waiter, "S'il vous plait (if you please),
I'll have a bowl of your French onion soup sans that stringy cheese!"

Like a boa constrictor
the intimations of mortality
remind me every day
not to take a backwards breath,
to keep my lungs filled
to the deepest point,
be open to the widest possibility,
replace each new disability
with a new ability,
and to rest, aware
that the damnable serpent
never does until
its eaten it's fill.

Fast Food 2

If you think the first restaurant was bad,
Well this one Is worse,
There’s a dead guy in the kitchen,
Brought in by the hearse.
Boogers in the burgers,
Flies are in the soup,
The smell of chicken clutter,
Is coming from the coup.
The cow is just a mooing,
And spitting in the fries,
The chicken is a cooking,
We can all hear her cries.
A boa constrictor is in the dishes,
Hissing at the cat,
The pig is just a squealing cause their pumping out his fat.
If you order a drink here,
You may live to regret,
For the first taste of wonder,
Is a rat “that little pest”!
I’ll put it plain and simple,
In fact, I’ll tell it well,
If you decide to keep eating here,
Surely you’ll go through hell.

Shel Silverstein

I am intrigued by Shel Silverstein
His passion and his works
His obscure way of rhyming
Making fun of other's quirks

Unique, unusual, surprising
Funny and clever is a given
With emphasis on children
And the world that they live in

“Hector the Collector, Boa Constrictor
Band-Aids, Sick, or With his Mouth Full of Food,”
His poems are very different
Yet similarly very good

I chuckle in amusement and smile, reading
“If the World Was Crazy and Sky Seasoning”
But it’s impossible to just like two
When they are all so amazing

“Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage out,”
and “The Giving Tree,”
To go unmentioned would devalue Shel’s name
Especially the last one I listed
As it really was his claim to fame

Premium Member Raindrops and Rainbows

depression squeezed like a boa constrictor
taking most of the joy from her life
struggling through the Great Depression
she dropped out of high school, went to work
an “A” student, she did what had to be done

although she shed tears nearly every day
her children still made her smile
Mom lived vicariously through us
celebrating each victory of her three children
never missing a chance to congratulate us

life with Mom could be hard
some days she didn’t get out of bed
we, her children, cooked and cleaned
the family joker, I sometimes brought a laugh
cherished were those rare moments

one thing she had always requested –
that we kiss her at her wake
just thinking of this made me sad
but I gave her that last kiss
on skin so cold, hard

each time a raindrop comes my way
I remember the tears Mom shed
but when a rainbow paints the sky
it is her love that I remember
and wish I could kiss the sky

Poison Ivy of Assumption

Poison ivy of assumption
a seed transforms into vines
your very branches tread fine lines.

Cut off the ones that offend you.
Watch as the ivy desecrates the character you never were.
Hearsay convoluted, convictions flawed.
Are you so jealous or too overzealous?

Poison Ivy of assumption
ruthless as a boa constrictor.
Crack each bone to keep your namesake.
Lessening a stranger's significance
hoping to encapsulate foreign fences.
All for your self decadence?

Prey lay dying
decimation of their very character.
The ivy as a thief in the night.
Wearing its victims skin it entangles and destroys.

Poison ivy of assumption
is no stepping stone sacred with thee?
Every leaf a captured soul
in your self induced sheol.
Void of individual existence
tarnished and vindictive in your webbed realm of deceit.

Poison ivy of assumption
a cycle neverending
this much I know is true.
Still ever present around today.

As green meets green
as dawn meets dusk
as a star fires away from the sky.
I stand in truth to confront this ivy of assumption.
I'll stand neither by it nor for it.

Poison ivy of assumption.
None call it.
None escape it,
None miss it.

I require proof.
While you die in the lies that never was
and never will be.

Poison ivy of assumption
be my guest
but I won't be there to dine.

Legless Reptile

The Legless Reptile
The ruin made of stones ended up a home, rock by rock rebuilt
on a hillside overlooking a valley of gentle dreams and orchids
so rare they only grow here. The man of the house had
a boa constrictor, in the basement, he preferred its company
it was quiet and curled up most of the time. He fed it rabbits,
chicken and occasionally - near Christmas- a life goat or two.
Often, when there nothing on the TV, he went down to visit
his friend in the basement and stroked its firm muscular body.

The man was not seen, people went to his house, perhaps he
was ill, they found a hungry snake, which was given to the zoo,
the man had disappeared, maybe he would return some day.
The house, left empty fell into decay and the roof blew off
a stormy day and water reduced the house to a ruin, which
proves a boa constrictor knows nothing about companionship.

Boa Constrictor

Miss Mary Prince
Was not seen since
She brought home her boa constrictor
I guess the snake did more than lick her.

Boa Constrictor

Boa Constrictor

This is turning into a diary of a slow death I had another fall
I was taking picture of some Interpretable bushes where I was
sure I had seen an animal, not unlike the Tasmanian tiger.
I did not see the hollow up to my waste in plant roots beginning
to strangle me like a nest of hungry squeezing snakes.
I knew of a man who had an anaconda in his basement and once
a week it gave the snake a sheep carcass, but then he had to stay
in the hospital for three weeks, being an animal lover, he checked on
his monster that mistook him for a sheep carcass strangled and
swallowed him shoes and all, weeks past, where is Jonas when they
broke into his house they found a hungry snake, and that was all.
Regarding the roots I cut myself loose with my knife which I always
when falling into a hole and have rabbits snarling at me and black
crows are cackling with glee.

Where were you when the lights went out.

In my world I work in little clumps.
Today I worked outside for instance.
I planted a few things, raked the yard
poisoned some weed and fire ants

I have much from which to choose.
The sun room needs tweaking.
The fireplace needs cleaning for sure.
There is always something leaking.

My short haired poodle. A killer. Ha Ha
Keeps away those, house to house selling
Last week I organized my hobby room.
What ensued was really worth telling.

Roscoe, the dog sleeps in the hobby room.
Along with a nine foot boa constrictor
A sea turtle with one leg missing
and a harmless eight inch tarantula.

While cleaning I checked out an old artifact.
I have a frontier bear trap, a terrible thing.
It was set, ready to spring, on the floor
so delicate that a fly can trip the spring

A small snake with red and black rings
came through the door, a king no doubt
I thought, how terribly unusual was this
coincidence. Just then the lights went out.

Roscoe barked, the bear trap sprung
I lunged for the emergency light at the stair
No need, the lights came back on
and the sight I saw in that room there!!!

Turtle, completely withdrawn, was in the trap.
Roscoe in the terrarium, tarantula playing dead,
The snake disappearing tail first into boa’s mouth
followed a few minutes later by its head.
