She came out of the sea at twilight
Weak and trembling, bent with age
Her hair entwined with seaweed
The pounding surf a watery stage. .

She stood awhile and listened
then with the most frightful groan
Beaconed with a bony finger
To her minions in the foam..

Out of the waves they scrambled
Creatures from the dark and deep
Unleashed this one dark night
From their prison did they creep..

The danced the Funky Monkey
while the stars shown overhead
With abandon celebrated freedom
From their dark and watery bed...

So had the sun and stars aligned
Just this once in untold years
To break the spell they suffered
And dry their unending tears..

And with the light of faintest dawn
They turned from their heavenly shore
All crept back into the thrashing sea
And their likes were seen no more

Heavenly Father

Author Dana Redricks
January 8, 2020

Lord thank you for delivering me
a little girl trapped
in me with the yearning to be free
She wanted to be released from
her past and boundage that tried
to hold her back
The enemy planted a seed of
weeds who tried choke out her
joy but the more he tried to steal
her joy the more you made her
She smiled when deep down she
felt crying
Lord you gave her something that
never stopped her from glowing
In her smile the world became
a better place as revealed yourself
to her
You reached out your hands to her
and beaconed her to come she
climbed on to her Heavenly Father's
lap as he held her in his tender loving
arms

Manelo Bridge

A raging bull
Trapped in a cell
Counting the years
To the end of his fears

Robben Island
Dealt us a thieving hand
That stole our Tata
And left us in tatters

But between mountains
Grew the heart of a lion
Between the largest boulders
His pride became bolder

His peak beaconed
Our highest aspirations
Firmly rooted to his valley
A sage of strong family values

Between his strong arms
Bursting at the seems...
From the Atlantic your Manelo Bridge
Ensured we were never out of reach

It now spreads across the city skyline
Like a rainbow after the rain
It bridges our past and future
A lasting tribute – a prominent feature

We Miss you Manelo - Chicco Twala (1989)
Back in the dark days of apartheid in South Africa, censors were ready to ban books, songs and people. In the 1980s, one of the most popular South African musicians was Sello "Chicco" Twala who is still a stalwart in the South African music industry today. In 1989, he released a pop tune called "We miss you Manelo" that was accompanied by a seemingly innocuous video that tells the story of a teenage girl Manelo. Poor Manelo gets herself knocked-up and eventually runs away from her very angry parents. Later in the song, Manelo's parents reflect on their move and are distraught over her continual absence. Hence the song's refrain is "We miss you Manelo, where are you??

If you listen to the song carefully, you will understand the genius of Chicco and other artists of the time. Here are some of the lyrics:

"It's been a long time, Manelo where are you?
We are missing you, Manelo Where are you?
Come back, come back home!"

Hey Soup!!! Im Baaack!

This pen fell from trembling fingers
as the days went blurring by
rolling off the table's edge
where inspiration goes to die
The weight of life kept these hands idle
for these months I've not returned
Yet the cup refilled from these trying times
....from these pained lessons that I've learned

Now lets shine the light on darkened rooms
We forgot were there at all
Casting beams through this lonely house
through every dismal hall
....its time now
....listening to the vibration of the world

It has beaconed me back to grip this pen
and to dive into this artist' net
to write the world and swoon the girl
Ive loved, yet never met.

....the vibration has resynched itself
to my cold and lonely soul
The melody made may deafen ears
as my old self is swallowed whole

To all the Soup--its good to be back.

Banjo Bobs Barber Shop

Banjo Bobs Barber Shop

Ill meet you there he’s open eight till late, right off hope street down dead end lane,
It can be quite a journey his reception worth your pain, no matter your passion, ignore there shame, you see the wood you can see the tree’s, at Banjo Bob’s they love to please.

The light’s are bright, they can suck you in, there’s nothing left so im off in-side-out, Round the back, to go see Bob n his chemical shack, the smile of shark beacons us in lining us up. . . Lining us in.

Pleasant conversation, all the faces you know, feelings inside give your shadow a glow
The music’s loud, the beers are cold, a thoughtless journey so you better take hold,
Time speed’s up, but the second hand stops, quarter bag of high, and single malt double shots.

The light’s are bright, they can suck you in, there’s nothing left so im off in-side-out, Round the back, to go see Bob n his chemical shack, the smile of shark beacons us in lining us up. . . Lining us in.

Now were regulars, we’ve been here a while, were seeing grey face’s missing there smile
There welcome stretched, been here too long, forgotten lyrics to there very own song.
With a glance from Bob, as he cleans a glass, a weathered smile for this familiar class.

The light’s are bright, they can suck you in, there’s nothing left so im off in-side-out,
Round the back, to go see Bob n his chemical shack, the smile of a shark beacons us in lining us up. . . Lining us in.

Rose glasses gone, now i see sin, nicotine walls served with chloroform gin, don’t know my neighbour, my reflection got old, moved from the fire pushed into the cold, my pockets are empty, no storey to share, i am all on my own. . . Bob just don’t care.

The lights have dimmed, they sucked me in, i got nothing left and i want in-side-out, round the back, need to see Bob n his chemical shack, was the smile of a shark that beaconed me in. . . Lined me up. . . Lined me in.

I Set My Eyes On You

The moment I set my eyes on you
I see faith boundless by words
Bountiful and true
Albeit a bashful glance
Once is enough
To look deeper down the path
Teaching me how to feel

Aye me a fool in a Mirage of fools
Darting through the labyrinth of vanity
Searching for the missing piece aimlessly
An elixir, a companion, a tempest of passion
There was no me in this foreign sea
There was no you, a lost pearl I fancied

For in you I see,
Faith and Hope that beaconed through me
Forgive me for the testing time
Forgive my tardy mind
In this heart its love I seek

Deny me a road of tingling familiarity
Deny me a whiff of blissful serendipity
And life befalls my death sentence
A seal of undiscovered adventures
A tragedy of soul: a hollow tenure

And I have found today
Love for sure, Love so pure
As we walk hand in hand
Weaving fond memories
Braving Life’s adversities

You are
A chapter in completion

Five years down the road
The morning dusk lingers on...

I Stand Tall

Taken by the heart and crushed,
Emotions shattered, thoughts rushed.
Crippled by the love that was finally denied.
Riddled by the gunfire by a lover who lied.

Hurt and beaten down, yet I stand tall,
I shall never again be beaconed by a lovers call.
Revitalized by my own heart and soul,
I will be one with, Emotional control.

Bitter sweet memories of lovers past,
I shall never again mention when asked.
Powered by the will and passion in my heart,
I have begun anew and with the past I have part.

Beware, for I am beautiful and strong
And I shall never again be that lost love song.
Angels have united and fight for my cause,
I will never again be the woman that I was.

My dreams are my future, filled full, with love,
And I will get all that I have been dreaming of.
I will rejoice, be happy, and smile that smile,
Knowing that my love life is set, if only for a while.

A translation of Sukumar Roy Nonsense Literature

Nonsense Literature

In amputation, amputee a nation

Here we come! Here we are so! I woo thee!
In three we count and clutter, and toothless joyous, smiley me!
Giggling and stomping are they! Here they come! Brother keeper brethren herd! Feelings elation, rainbow, cuddly!
None knows why! Even though, they are in the hardest try! As it came along, seemingly!

Once wonder, why are they so ? Give them up and clear them all, aside!
Then the second passed, caused me a blast! Succumbed with a second tide!
To see them coming! To see them sharp! To see them with eyes closed, with a vivid gaze!
I and my laughter! We muse each other! We tickle each other throughout the day! See page!

Laughing surmised in moonlight, needle of the cuddly seamstress and the salvation of the angling boat!
The light beaconed high! The platoon of ants and the truth! The train and the brainless pain with oil coat!
Laughter we are in! We see the slates in we are in shine! The very first ones of the letters and slates among, silly!
Carbonated the gas in response! And the laughter enhance! Fanta and fantastic responsive, gluttonous belly!

Carrying worn suitcases packed tightly
with meager possessions, lofty dreams,
bringing hearts filled
with longings
for the familiarity of homelands
and family left behind,
they came to America.

Schowengerdt, Rabun, Mazzei,
Erickson, Keeton and Rausch.
RaGusa, Martin, Devries,
Kaplan, Renfro, Czypryzs,
Morrissey, Hartpence, Colbert,
Collier, Roth, Proia and Ward.
They came to America.

Shining through immigrant tears,
Lady Liberty’s freedom torch
beaconed the way to portals of hope.
Beyond ... the future’s golden glow
beckoned the brave to create a new America
molded out of the melting pot of diversity.
They came to America.

Standing hand in hand at Ellis’s shore,
in reverent silence,
hearts bursting with pride,
a hundred mother tongues
with single voice proclaimed
in perfect harmony,
“We are America!”

Hope

I love once in vain
I saw light, it beaconed me
To rise up again.

Celestial Jellyfish

A giant jellyfish was born
emitted from a neutron star
once on a whilom cosmic morn
amidst the stellar seas afar.

With tentacles from arcing crest,
medusa-like it hangs on high
cloudscaped with tendrils manifest
in astral sky of Gemini.

Exploding supernova yore—
whose light reached Earth so long ago
that last ice age was still at fore
and ocean levels then were low

by dint of all the ice around
compared to what they are today,
when history was oral bound
though art in caves was on display—

created nebula we see
dubbed ‘jellyfish’, made of debris
from remnant IC Four Four Three,
five thousand light-years from our spree

upon this tiny whirling world
of Man’s vaingloried destiny,
short-lived mid solar time unfurled,
in what’s to be or not to be.

If traveling at speed of light
it very well might take about
three hundred years of light-wave flight
to go across its width throughout.

The jellyfish on planet here
are oldest multi-organ group
of animals, found far and near
free-swimming often in a troop

that ocean currents might amass
together, and there is a class
immortal seeming, which can pass,
to prior stage, when foes harass.

In general, umbrella-shaped,
these creatures’ bells have trailing limbs
with stinging cells around them draped
to injure one who too close swims.

Pelagic animals, they dwell
in seas and oceans everywhere,
not all with venom to expel,
plus special senses; further they’re

adept at adaptation’s chain,
with range fantastic; by the way,
they manage well without a brain.
Could we learn from their résumé?

But back to Jellyfish in space,
a pulsar may have formed in blast,
or neutron star at rapid pace
which first burst inward, spinning fast.

The outer layers which caved in
bounced outward in that stellar scheme
of supernova with its spin
begetting radiation beam

that’s sweeping by like lighthouse ray,
perchance a beaconed message from
some bygone beings gone astray
in bleeping beats of warning drum.

Meanwhile on Earth we’re but a guest
to Mother Nature’s knowing eyes
in Goldilocks rare orbit blessed.
How sad that life Man fails to prize!

After Glow

. for public domain

After Glow

Having no holiday lights to glow,
I left my salt lamp light on low,
and went outside to the prairie road
to see what the nighttime sky would show.

Alas. The winter clouds hid all starlight,
the moon and planets were gone from sight.
For a moment I felt denied a right
as Nature bestowed me one more slight.

Then a beaconed horizon caught my view,
not just one, but at least a dozen few,
some orange, some red, some yellow and blue,
and colors that before I never knew.

From across cornfields shown sparkles of light,
from unshaded windows of dwellings upright,
and my soul swelled an urge to reignite
my extinguished self against the night.

Transparency

I'm just a shadow seldom seen
A soul once again forgotten
Waiting on your beaconed path
A path decayed and nearly rotten
I stand very still as others fly by
Or am I the one stuck in slow motion
Caught in the daze of a sea of people
Flowing by in their very own ocean
When will you notice where I stand
Will you ever reach out and call
If it weren't for me stretching out my hand
Would you come looking for me at all?
