The Fashion Zebra

I am a flake.
That is the term for people that do not follow through.
It may not be fair. I have spent my whole life avoiding the title.
I crossed every tee, dotted all the eyes…
and followed rules real, and make believe…
Now. It no longer matters.

I am exactly what you see.
I write about the weather, cooking mushrooms in broth,
the underwater zoo in Williams, along with other various,
worthy subjects of interest to no one.

I carry a phone and often use it as a coaster.
It brings me messages once or twice a month
and does not honestly believe me,
when I say, “your fired”.
Alas, I still have a landline, to find it,
when I am yet, desperate for its call.

I wear pj’s to the market, my bathing suit to the post box.
I paint murals and laugh at the way leaves fall from trees, in patterns.
I am not longing to grow up, get married, have kids, nor put things into order.
I want to splash in pools, taste ice-cream made from green tea and hunt for spiders.
The world is no longer full of boundaries to be broken,
They have been erased.
Completely.
I am free.

Summertime Fun - On the Beach

Summertime Fun – On the Beach

When I’m feeling hot, hot, hot,
the beach is certainly my ideal fun spot!
Wearing sunglasses and floppy hat plopped on my head,
I’m lunging under an umbrella in my bathing suit so red.
As I play with my bare feet in the warm sand,
for me summertime on the beach is always grand!

After a few sun-drenched laps in the salty ocean,
I’m ready for a full-body massage with baby oil or suntan lotion.
Feeling very relaxed, sipping on a frosty virgin pina colada,
this is definitely summertime fun for Pandita!
Just imagine coconut trees swaying in a light breeze,
that’s a picture I like – so freeze frame – please!

The screen door slams behind me
As I rush out into the blinding sunlight
Wondering where my big brother is hiding
I better get to the pool before he finds me
And throws me into the ice cold water
That flows daily into the pool
From the cold mountain streams
Of the Elbrus Mountains

I have my pretty pink flowered bathing suit on
My second skin
I smile as I remember someone calling me a dolphin
When she saw me swimming in the water
Now I can’t wait to get in again

I feel the prickly yellowing grass beneath my feet
As I run toward the weeping willow….
My favorite tree in the whole compound
First phase of the run complete
I head toward the ancient mulberry tree
How I hate the squishiness under my toes
As I trample them in this patch of green
Where the grass is protected by the mighty branches
Of this gracious tree that provides us
An abundance of luscious fruit
We gather every summer in big bed sheets
As people up in the branches
Shake the tree

I’m on my final leg
Almost there
A rebel yell
And my brother swoops down on me
From behind the tree
I scream as I try to get away
But he sweeps me up in his arms
And runs the last few feet to the pool
I shriek at the top of my lungs
Which will probably bring my uncle out yelling
Awakened from his afternoon nap

I want to go into the pool gradually
By degrees…
To get my body used to the icy coldness
And so I beg to be released
We are there
At the edge of the pool
One sweeping motion
And water splashes up in rainbow sprays
As I sink below
Down into the icy depth at the deep end
Thinking this time my heart will stop
This time I will turn into a block of ice
And sink to the bottom
I will drown

A lifetime later
I break the surface and see him smiling down at me
The one who taught me how to swim
My strong older brother
Who would rescue me in a heartbeat
If need be...

I smile up at him
As I break into a smooth swim to the other side
Happy that he didn't let me play the fool
Standing at the edge of the pool
Waiting to come down the steps
By degrees
Waiting
To get lost
Into this liquid paradise
Of azure blue...

How To Lose a Bikini

Here's a tale I've told before
From when I was a teen
The subject at the time was sore
For I caused quite a scene!

Had a brand-new bathing suit
My first bikini ever
I figured I looked mighty cute
And that was my endeavor!

Up the high dive I did go
Winking at the guys
Time to give them all a show
Bending legs and thighs

Diving off the board I went
Far as I could take it
One way my body was sent
Bikini didn't make it!

Off it flew into the air
And left a naked me
Falling to the water there
For all the world to see

So embarrassed my face was flushed
Gone was little Miss Sassy
In the water I stayed and blushed
Humiliated lassie!

Premium Member The Girl On the Boardwalk

                  ~Echoes of Yesterday~

          Walking on the Boardwalk
on a hot, steamy, summer day.
In a two piece rose bathing suit, twas decades ago!
I was only seven and seeing the Atlantic,
          for the very first time.
I loved the waves, oh !

I bought a dear bracelet that I still own.
With silver circular disks and sailboats in
          each glistening so!
The salt water taffy was like manna from heaven.
To this French-braided young girl, only of seven.

Nobody dressed as oddballs or freaks I see today!
Not one person, a walking crayon nor a billboard
          proudly,displaying a shirt with hate.
Kindness ,good manners, respect were forever in play.
And, tragically, I can't say the same for today.

So forgive me, if I truly don't understand this God hating,
          negative, lost world.
My mind hungers for the once present sanity,
the love, the humanity and the lost sweetness.
Of a salt water taffy world.

The Coppertone Girl

There once was a girl
In the Coppertone ad
And her dog pulled her bathing suit down;
So her pale little butt
Was exposed by the mutt
Though the rest of her body looked brown.

It was harmless and sweet
And offensive to none
So for years it made Coppertone's name;
But society's changed
And for people deranged
What was innocent's not quite the same.

Now the Coppertone girl,
While her doggie still tries
To perform the same stunt he once did,
Looks abashed, but for what?
For this time he had not
Been successful at making his bid.

Though his little teeth nip
At her suit, he cannot
Bare her tush for the whole world to see.
It's a sign of the times
That because of some crimes
What was cute once no longer can be.

Premium Member Waffles

Waffles - Sunday night supper
Butter melting yellow in the
Crispy, tiny square pockets,
Sweet maple syrup and fat sausages,
Glow of lamplight flickering
On dining room window panes
And the warm glow of family
Gathered in happy chatter.

Waffles for breakfast with
Softened butter, cinnamon sugar,
Or strawberry jam, freshly made.
Morning-hungry family with
Plates proffered, everyone clamoring
For “more waffles, please,
And don’t forget the sausages!”
Bathing suit clad, stoking up
For a fun-filled day at the beach.

Waffles, the best comfort food,
Warm and oozing with sweetness
A counter for your misery
When you’re in bed with the measles
And can’t go outside to play.
Waffles hot from the iron
Or popped up from the toaster –
No matter, just keep them coming!

Premium Member Autumnal

Put away your bathing suit the dips in the pool are done
get the rake out of the garage, jumping in the leaves is fun.
The Halloween decorations include the ginormous spider;
exchange the ice-cold lemonade for hot apple cider.

The summers end raced tirelessly to the full autumn stop,
and the rain chills more with each pounding drop.
The heat of the sun fizzles out with each windy howl,
and the moon glared its face with an ice cold scowl.

Early fall boast trees with the most fiery bright hue
but time marches on colors become brown and gray stew.
Around the campfire people gather around and sing
as a church group leader strums his six strings.

Autumnal is the transition from summer to winter
Its weather patters are nestled in the center.

Premium Member Lake Geneva Girl, Remembers

A teenage girl, a bit of a flirt.
Lying on a beach blanket,
Yes,  that one~ right over there!
Can you see that bubbling brunette?

Lays back down in her two piece, tartan,
bathing suit.
White-heart shaped glasses cover her eyes.
She rubs sun lotion on her dancer's thighs.

He cannot see her watching his physique ...
his gold, skin glistening, muscular and tweaked.
Only to the sound of far-off, roaring speed boats,
does he listen.
That summer day, so very long ago.
From which her heart....never took a furlough!

Premium Member Seasons Impression

A few yellow leaves, diminutive bless.
The subtle birth of Fall— my eyes impress.
Verdant green—deep visual for my dreams.
The season’s frisk—Jack Frost snips at the seams.

Soon the froth of frisky leaves, everywhere.
          The flamboyant tango, showering flair.
               And oh…the burning Autumnal passion—
the sizes and shapes, bittersweet fashion.

I forget my bathing suit, bundle up,
          vigorously jump into loving cup
of apple cider, pumpkin pie and leaves.
Season’s change, cheeky-warm, with knitted sleeves.

Premium Member Family Trip To Mars

It’s time to pack the rocket,
Because there’s no need for cars.
For our first vacay,
That’s as far away,
As the wonderful world of Mars.

Yes that’s what the brochure said;
It’s a wonderful world out there.
So grab the yout’s,
And lunar boots,
But don’t forget the extra air.

I’ll always recall that first trip;
Starting with how to pack.
We stuffed the trunk,
Coz who woulda’ thunk,
We couldn’t bring a luggage rack.

Then we fueled her up with the good stuff,
To go fifty million miles.
Then I guffawed,
Let’s send the in-laws,
But that made my wife hostile.

I told the kids to go to the bathroom,
Then they looked at me in a daze.
When they found out.
We’ll be flying about,
Two hundred and fifty days.

There was one last major problem;
For a request we were afraid to hear.
Our son put us on the spot,
When he asked to bring Spot;
Not this time, he has to stay here.

Well that started the bellyaching,
That delayed us leaving the house.
“Will miss all our friends,
For who knows when?”
And that stuff was said by my spouse.

Thankfully calmer heads prevailed,
After toasting with some drink.
The kids didn’t peep,
And my wife fell asleep,
Due to the added drugs, I think?

Take off was smooth as can be;
Frankly, it was a hoot.
Until I realized,
High up in the skies,
I didn’t pack my bathing suit.

When the family finally woke up,
We were soaring close to the moon.
The kids both cheered,
Then said what I feared,
“Hey dad, will we be there soon?”

Well that was just the beginning,
There was more in store for me.
When one kid upchucked,
And the other one yucked,
“Hey dad, I got to go pee!”

Then my wife put in her two cents,
And asked if I’m driving all the way through?
I said we’ll stop for the night,
On the next meteorite;
What did she expect me to do?

At last Mars came into our sights;
Talk about being out in the sticks.
They asked where we’ll stay?
I said, to their dismay,
“This rocket doubles as a Motel Six.”

We all agreed Mars was wonderful;
An exquisite planet in red.
We took pic’s big time,
Then turned on a dime,
And flew back in uncomfortable beds.

Premium Member A Caribbean Dream

I’m sure I was dreaming.
I could never afford to travel
To the most beautiful island
The world could provide.

Yet there I was swimming
In warm clear aquamarine seas.
Out on the sand the view was stunning.
Houses built on the sea itself,
An aroma of shellfish and chicken
Filled the pure air. I was hungry.
But I had no money, dressed in a bathing suit.

Someone called me and I was offered
A plate of aromatic food.
I ate it slowly, savoring delicious victuals.
Then my newfound friend took me for a walk.
I saw purple crabs scuttling sideways
Whilst at the edge of a forest
So lovely and tender, some mousedeer
Were pasturing quietly in the shade.

Then I realised how hot the midday sun was.
And I woke on my bed, sweating.
It was bliss to linger under a shower.

Show Me the Funny,Part Two---Tweeny's Bikini

Here's a tale I've told before
about a silly teenager.
She should have walked into a door
cos' her sense of pride was in danger.

She bought a hot pink bathing suit
with her babysitting money.
Thinking she looked pretty cute
she hoped to impress a honey.

She went to the local swimming pool
wearing this new bikini
hoping that the boys would drool
as the suit was rather teeny!

Jumping off the diving board
it happened so suddenly.
The top of the suit sailed off-oh lord!
And the "girls" were flying free!

Well she stayed in the water till time to go
then captured her top from poolside.
That girl was me I guess you know
and I had nowhere to hide!

The moral of this tale could be
pride goes before a fall.
And if you wear a teeny bikini
make sure it covers all!

Birthdays

Birthdays

                             Blowing out the candles,
                               Eating all the cake,
                              Putting on my bathing suit,
                                Jumping in the lake.

                              Opening the presents,
                                Playing all the games,
                               Chasing all my friends,
                                   Yelling out their names.

                              Birthdays are so wonderful,
                                  Birthdays are so great.
I only have ten months to go
                                  I can hardly wait!

Feeble Little Mudskipper

In alternating bad attempts;
To reach a puddle of regret.
   A bathing suit of scales he weighs;
His mouth a circle of dismay.
Flip flop he fumbles back and forth;
A feeble wish he will retort.
   A final honourable sway;
A gulping down of water may,
Entice a drama too excite,
Enough to one more time ignite,
   A jerk of flesh, elliptic course;
   Too infantile to sense remorse.
To land within a puddles’ shallow;
Missed the creek, forget the paddle.
