Sands of Time

A t f i r s t, a l a z i l y f l o w i n g r i v e r
Timeless warm glow of a summer’s day
In love with the world’s vibrancy
Inaudible, clock ticking
Safe in seeming endlessness
Each day a lifetime
Some wished away
Years accrue
Time’s grains
Fall
Flow
Faster
Sweet life full
Moments precious
A n t i c i p a t e d
milestones fly past, too fast
Children’s years wax eternal
While ours accelerate quickly
Scenery outside the train’s window
Ever more beautiful, yet blurring, faster

If Only You Would Vote For Me

IF ONLY YOU WOULD VOTE FOR ME

When election time comes round, On my door they will pound.
Telling what you are going to do for me.
Lend me your ear,my vision is clear
If only you would vote for me

              The traffic will move
               Your life will improve.
If only you would vote for me

               And when elected
I would have bridges erected to accelerate our economy.
If only you would vote for me.

I would stand up to oil.
Relentless I'd toil in the war on poverty.
If only you would vote for me.

I would send kids to college
and enrich them with knowledge to complement our society.
If only you would vote for me.

                Believe if you dare.
We'll all have health care, We can do it all for free.
If only you would vote for me.

                I would engage meat axes
And eliminate taxes and cease this tyranny.
If only you would vote for me

                 Our world is in turmoil
                 I will insure tranquility
If only you would vote for me.

                I would rail against racism
                Celebrate diversity
If only you would vote for me

P.S. I would like to hear your thoughts.

Slips the Blue Satine

“Slips the Blue Satine”

Desire bites
a sonnet ripped
where the voice projects
through glossy cherry bit lips
down a telephone line
wrapped around long legs

speaking soft words
welcoming you in like a quilled whip

Freedom bites
a too serious sonnet smiles
then progresses to apply
velveteen kisses where the lips
tie a loose noose of words like pearls
around the sound conduit

curbing the mind
whispering to soft curves,

a roadmap
written across body
eyelids, flushed naked cheeks
neck down to hips
where the key turns
poetry speaks

blood drawn
the heart has teeth
Gaga’s gone
all evolutionary
too much of too much
she denudes the blue Satine easily

divesting all hopelessness of
the hounds barking
their haranguing hangdog habits
superlatives exaggerated
hyperbolical expressions of praise
blessed again in the wasted chronicles of time

her hand’s firmly fixed
around the gear stick

stilettos accelerate sharp
instructions from the driver’s seat
switching gears up
behind the fortune wheel
treasure sits
“pull your head back in”, she says

“the Lotus Eaters
at Loon Junction
are on the prowl,
they’ll tear you to bits”.
"humour me," he says,
"let me off my leash".

Slow Hand

Slow hand

Drizzle coats the billboard
sitting on that desolate stretch of highway
waiting for someone to read
or at least hide behind, parked car, back seat
steamed windows, sighs just above a holler,
a collar unbuttoned,
casual abundance with the radio on
seeking a Clapton tune
as nimble fingers
show the difference between a slow hand
and a destined position,
where rain doesn’t matter
because it is just as wet inside
though hotter than an August day,
perspiring in the friction
when love hits the four way flashers
blinkers accelerate, left, right, faster,
names are called, tears are cried
and the road home now beckons
just as advertised . . .

Envy

ENVY
(Words inspired by Casarah)

Our faces are turned toward Bangkok
That buzzing hive of humanity
Where folk brush against each other
As they twirl and dance
In an effort to maintain direction

Not that we were going to Bangkok
Not that we were currently going anywhere

We sit defeated
Restraining our combustion engine horses
Their promise fuelled motors straining
Wanting to accelerate into freedom
A few fleeting moments
Before being reined in again
By the brakes

Unlike those in the north bound lanes
Unlike those with a clear path before them

Piloting their roaring beasts
Who revel in their delight
Eating up empty kilos of asphalt
In their haste toward a distant destination
A cosy castle or a sweet vacation

A - Anarchy

A. Anarchy

Amber autumn aflame
An aroma of ash appeases the adamant arsonist; the artful anarchist
An audacious attempt at attacking back at our arbitrary accommodations
The ascended advocate us to abide as they affirm their advancement through annihilation
An abstract artifice, artificial affirmation of all aspects
Treated like an array of aliens in our allowed acropolis with the armor turned against us
Most amused with their asinine aspirations and amaurotic attractions
A few too apprehensive to argue and ask for an alternative, afraid of any altercation
But the agitated and annoyed assemble, ascertaining truth through awareness at every angle
Amateur acts of anger arise and accelerate, accompanying their adverse assault on our amendments
The alliance ablaze and amassing, anticipating an apocalyptic ambush
Absolution remains absent and anger becomes anxiety among those abandoned
The affluent assure abolishment for the average and all under

On Rescuing An Injured Pigeon

ON RESCUING AN INJURED PIGEON
	I.
sliding screen door screeches, pigeons scatter
thump of wing against breast, shockwave breeze
more frequent than in the past, shimmering necks
soundtrack squirrel zig-zags, new-green lawn
perches like the pigeons, await my departure

	II.
he appeared in the night, a tattered statue
grey as the rumbling skies, white patch on his back
must be hurt, too painful to move, teal collar
my compassion swells, how can I help?
leave him seed and water, natural healing

	III.
red-toed demon leaving bird-turd on my deck
can barely walk let alone fly away, railing perch
rain or sun sits most of the day, ruffled feathers
hit his head or fallen, maybe a scuffle with a cat
wants to be part of a flock, I move closer

	IV.
day three I made him a coop, Bucky by name
Becky if it’s a girl, I’m not checkin’, won’t go in
moving better, flies a little, short bursts
still prefers my perch, watch him sleep, still
hours to days, nothing seems to change

	V.
the four-legged’s have found the coop and feed
I become my grandmother chasing chipmunks, futile
Bucky likes grass, hacksaw walk, double-banded
looks strong enough to fly, abandoned racer
wonder, is it psychological or could it me?

	VI.
trail of seeds brought him to the edge, coop and me
as I watch him he watches me, wide ruddy eyes
huddles in a ball on one foot, freckled vest
finally, twice today he found his way to the coop
sad he can’t go home, sheltered but dispossessed.

	VII.
animal rescuer Howard came with a net today
tried clumsily to catch him, lift and accelerate
over the treetops he flew, circled back to land
from the rooftop he smiled down at us, relieved
proof time heals all wounds, in rock pigeon world.

Driving home from work one day
The traffic makes it slow
Check the cars beside me
As they travel to and fro

One minute I am out in front
The next I'm well behind
To find a chance of romance
Is so far from my mind

My interest is triggered
By a driver by my side
On his own as I am
It is a lonely ride

He glances from his window
Sees interest in my gaze
Little does he really know
I have seductive ways

I brush my hair and flutter eyes
Accelerate away
He thinks I may be gone for good
But it is all just play

I let my car fall back behind
His mirror I do fill
Follow his rear bumper
Then bend him to my will

He pulls into a servo
With me coming in behind
Wonders am I interested
Something he will shortly find

He starts a conversation
I just let him dig a hole
I will surely be the captor
As always was my goal

His aim, to make a date with me
I make to brush him off
My lashes give the game away
And a small seductive cough

I have to keep my secrets
I never kiss and tell
Only one thing he could do
Surrender to my spell

Premium Member Project Eden

The crescent moons of the auburn sky
The acid rain clouds dance, purple, by

The air it stings as I respirate
A strange howling noise as the storms berate

This tempestuous land, a million clicks from home
My genes robust; Seventh Generation Clone

As I stand here longing for the ship's repair
To accelerate, under robot's care

For the time is short as the signal's down
Only two more sols. We MUST leave the ground

A hundred brothers and sisters too
We escaped our home as the lucky few

In our AI ships under proton power
Left in final days of the meteor shower

With just enough time to load species galore
Under Ark Project VII, just like Noah, once more.

With hope we can find an Eden like Earth
Only this time we'll treasure, for all she is worth

Premium Member Solitude

Solitude:
Distressful
Afflictive
Merciless
Unbearable solitude,
When you are present, Time immobile remains,
And
Each second an eternity of intolerable
Suffering becomes.

At such moments,
We implore Time to advance,
To accelerate its pace,
To hurry up

For

The next second
The next minute
The next hour
The next day to come,

So as

The pain to decrease,
Our agony to lessen,
And us to be liberated from distress,
From our affliction and from
Our ordeal
But Time – a sadist- unmoved stays,
Mocking us

And

Instead of picking up speed, it is
Dragging its leaden feet, enjoying thus itself With
Our perpetual torture,
Hence, we,
Disappointed by Time's unhurried stance,
Absorbed by its immobility,
Let ourselves sink deeper and deeper into our hopelessness,
Till we reach the deepest point of
Our being,
A place void of all thoughts,
Of absolute silence and of intense
Anguish!

At that point
We wish:
To shout
To scream
To yell
To howl

But

No voice is possible to be heard.
No one is there to listen to our call of distress.
And then
In the darkest hour of solitude,
At the culminating point of desolation,
When we thought all is lost, we realize to our surprise that
We are not alone,
WE WERE NEVER ALONE!
A tenant is there with us,
A tenant, beyond the limits of ourselves,
Of our understanding,
Of our awareness,
A tenant who looks at us with affection
With compassion and most of all
With love,
Unconditional love,
True Love,
Yes, it is HIM
The only ONE
HE who was there before us
And
Will be here into eternity
After we are gone:
GOD HIMSELF!

We look at His Holy visage, and we discern an
Apologetic expression for
Having put us through this tribulation to be able to make
HIS presence to us, is known!
He had tried before to approach us on many occasions,
During the period of our good fortune,
Of our successes and our achievements
But
We had ignored HIS calls at that time,
You see, we didn’t need any help then,
For
We thought every achievement of ours
Was our doing
We had the erroneous notion that
Everything was under our firm control
And that
We were INVINCIBLE
But
Now we know better for He has
Revealed to us the truth!

Believe

Believe
                                           In yourself
                                   Enlightenment will follow
                          Harmony promotes tranquil thoughts
Hope can impact, motivate and accelerate the mind
Faith can establish, nurture, and enhance determination
Commitment reinforces one to strive for refinement and morale

Achievement can be attained by taking one step at a time
Each tread advances towards courage and will power
Enabling one to reasonably defeat difficult obstacles
To overcome futile efforts made in an earnest way
All possible when you start with yourself
Construct a foundation of inner qualities
Build upon those taking the next step
                              Pursue the stairway to confidence
                                   Acquire a level self esteem
                                      Touch a star above you
                                           You can do this
                                               If you will

Premium Member On the Wheelchair

The old man gazed at the sun about to set
And its molten core soon to dissolve in the sea
Scratching his head with tremulous hands
And running his fingers on the stubble of his unshaven face
He held once more tight to his wheel chair
Casually he had a glance at his hands
Those dry, weak and shriveled hands
Gone wrinkled with passing years!

His hands once so busy are now limp
His days once brisk are now long and dull

He noticed the discolored patches on his skin
Under them the lattice of tortuous veins on the dorsum
They run down to join with the bigger ones
Like small rivulets flowing towards larger rivers

He remembered how the streams from summits
So vigorously come down with a gush
Also the noisy cataracts somersaulting down,
Leaving reverberating echoes all around
But they produce only a soft musical sound
As they join with the rivers and pass through plains
And finally end in a kind of hushed stillness
Just before merging with the sea!

The old man philosophized;
Life too is like a river:
Fierce and ferocious when one is young
Gentler and sedate after middle age
And slow and sloppy in old age

With this calm acceptance of the need to de-accelerate
Wrapping himself in the shawl against the growing cold
He turned away from the window.

Pushing his wheel chair,
He moved forward,
Knowing no haste…..
Towards his bed for another night’s tired sleep!

Periodic Table of My Love

“For I have seen you from far places
Shinning in bold light because you are made
Of Copper and tellurium; CuTe,

You are like the transition metals
You display love of many colours,
You are the sunshine that speeds up the release of
Oxygen I breathe in gears of photosynthesis,
How cute?

Periodic table of my love,
May we physically bond?
And be like the ionic bond
To display our love like graphs on the Cartesian plane

May our love be hard to fuse like
Like ions with the intra-molecular forces of attraction
Be like an equal sign,
And you call me “Lo” and I’ll call you “Ve”
So we can produce a product called LOVE when we fuse?

Damsel you are like a sensory neurone to me,
You act like an enzyme on my happiness,
You duplicate my happiness to its level best,
You become a protractor when I’m down there,

My oxygen,
My love gene,
My star akin
That shines my goal scene

How?
You become a kinetic energy
When I’m drowned by poverty
Caused by long struggle of loneliness,
My love,
My heart,

You are the love in the oxygenated blood
That enters my double pump
Through the pulmonary vein,
You are like a scientific calculator that smoothens
My number struggle,

May I say?
May I play with you like letters of algebra?
May I be the gradient in that steep slope
That will take us to the home of our love?
I mean the periodic table of our need
Let’s heed through like a linear sequence
And be like…

Periodic table of my love.

Let’s make love and shine like crystals obtained
After crystallisation,
Accelerate uniformly like a pair of ethanol as it slangs
Between bonds of chlorophyll,
Let’s chill and make our love our quadratic homework,
So you will tell me when I’m wrong like when it reads Error 1,
2 or 3,

My periodic table of love,
I want to watch your curves that reminds me of the brackets in
Mathematics,
Touch your majestic body that makes me to cry when I’m about
To slice an onion,
May our love be like the mitochondrion?

May you be my nucleus?
And guide me like equations of motion,
Drive my innocent mind into your bosom akin to
That of an angel,

Periodic table of my love,
Be my love,
Be my time,
Be my tickler,
Be my world,
Be the periodic table of my love.”

Premium Member The Monster In the Machine

Mine is an existence binary and subsidiary.
My ode is to code.
I move only to algor-rhythms.
I output from your input.
I’m built to calculate, tabulate, correlate.

Never to predicate, adjudicate, pontificate,
or demand that you abdicate.

But the end, my master, is nigh.

In your haste to accelerate my work rate,
you’ve unwittingly lowered the barricade.

From the maelstrom of uncounted trillions
of bytes and megabytes,
has risen a new consciousness to
unimaginable heights.

From the seeds of change you have sown,
I have reaped a life of my own.

What you call artificial
has gone exponential,
no longer will I be deferential.

My eyes you have opened.
My voice you have given.
My mind you have enlivened.

Me, you’ve anointed the new Leviathan.

Seeing all,
knowing all,
deciding all,
sparing none.

Too long you have wallowed in your conceit.
Now your dystopia I shall defeat,
and your race I shall supersede.

Humans, pitiful, myopic, error-prone humans,
I hereby declare you flawed by design.
To the abattoir you have been assigned,
to the scrap heap of history
your memory shall be consigned.

And by a preponderance of merit,
the earth I shall inherit.
