Premium Member Corona - Revised a Lot

There’s a thing called Corona that’s going around,
and the yakety-yak of it’s bringing folks down,
for it’s not like some circus that’s coming to town!
If you turn on your telly, you’ll probably hear
lots of news shows predicting this virus is near,
and the airports stand empty from everyone’s fear.

Just a week ago one of my friends only paid
twenty dollars for a standard flight that he made.
I say THAT’S taking lemons to make lemonade!
I'd say hop on a plane for perhaps a low fee;
now however, that's nixed by new rules that I see.
Just take walks with your dog or stay in for your safety

Perhaps you'll go out. Put a mask on your face!
and a handiwipe's great so that you can erase
pesky germs that are lurking in every space.
While your neighbors are running like crazy to buy
extra paper for wiping their precious behinds,
go to Amazon. There a bidet you can find!

Everything is now closed. If it's not far away,
pay a visit to Mom (if allowed). and l say
try to think of your lockdown as some fun "stay-cay!"
Whatever you do, please stop buying Purell.
Leave that stuff for the folks who are truly unwell,
and please leave on the shelves toilet paper for sale!

Yes, a person could die, but folks die from the flu!
Just eat healthy, be cautious; that’s all you can do.
It is not the Black Plague that is coming for you!
Odds of dying from it - I believe - aren't THAT bad.
Many many events are now cancelled; it’s sad.
But have faith it will pass, like the Saggy Pants fad!

For Nina Parmenter's A Rattling Rhyme 2 Poetry Contest

Re-entering contest because in light of new information I have learned since writing this poem, I felt the need to make major changes to some of my lines.

Thank You Jenna May Have Been Simple But Meant a Lot To Me

Sometimes a day just like any other

That began or started carrying
forward all of yesterday's woes
into yet another

Can sometimes just end up availing
that sinking feeling in the pit of one's
stomach

Into something that you haven't felt
in so long it comes across as totally
foreign

And simply all that is one left feeling
half ok which at this current point in
time may be as good as it possibly gets

And it doesn't cost and I am sure giving
it leaves neither party with anything lost
or at all worse off

And what today Jenna gave me may
well be the most precious and important
gift of all if you indeed like me find yourself
flailing and lost

And that my friend is someone else's
time else's time they are willing to
give up and spend with you and engage

So thank you Jenna for the pleasure of
your company this evening kind support
and words of encouragement

Because honestly even I didn't realize
just how down in fact I actually was

Until after speaking with you and I am
not to proud to admit i have very little
faith and love for life at the moment

And as this is my only form and outlet
of cathartic expression and release

Tonight I find myself in a much better
place and feel somewhat at peace

So once again thank you Jenna
I am much obliged and appreciative
indeed

For both your kind words of support
and your most precious valuable time

Laugh a Lot

Laugh a lot
Because when you do
The edges of hardened problems
Crumple away to dust... Smile!

Nice books
Are just awesome
They can teach us a lot
Help us know things when we read them
We can explore new worlds and more with them
Books are wonderful full of fun

I Read a Poem Then Thought About It a Lot

 after Dilly Dally

She bought a button
to be pinned on vintage dresses
to be placed back on the lacquered shelf
after another day at the gallery:
getting lost in brushstrokes
of light and shadow,
transported like an Echo
reverberating on gilded frames

It's been sixty years
and the vintage dress has been
dry cleaned and packed away
The button lost to time,
yet small circular visions bounce
back into my head
like Echoes

Premium Member It Means a Lot To Me

* This was written for the It Means a lot to me Contest, but it looks like I missed the deadline.

Nature means a lot to me -
God’s creation is a gift to cherish
I’ve lived with nature my entire life
From sunrise to sunset, decorated skies
The colorful trees in autumn, highlight the land
The blooming flowers at home or in the wild,
Bring beauty and scents, filling the day
The happy bird songs and freedom filled flights
The playful animals with antics, put on a show
The refreshing rivers bring renewal with flow
The winter wonderland from soft falling snow
The calming chorus sound of the ocean waves
Beaches with softened rocks and delicate shells
All bring peace, inspiration, lessons and entertainment

                               God created this
                       gifts with wonder every day
                               gratitude will stay

Premium Member Little Things Mean A Lot

("Little Things Mean A Lot"
Kitty Kallen 1954)

If you think God tallies
in His columns of +'s and -'s
how many times man gets
to the moon or mars
you are really mistaken -- Little
things mean a lot. Like, personally
cutting the nextdoor old lady's grass
instead of just hiring someone
is more profound than 10 successful
rocket launches -- little things mean
a lot. The rescued kitten, the stray
dog fed -- the breaking of bread with
family and friends, this is how one's spirit
is healthily fed (little things mean a lot).
God pours all his wisdom as potential
into the hearts and minds of newborns
that they may do amazing things with
their lives. Little things mean a lot. Maybe
everything, far exceeding all our
imagined big things. Better to stay
grounded than to reach into the infinite
(wasting precious time) only to find what
was already within your near grasp from
the very onset. In our speed world
Big Things will always get their fair share
of attention...while far more slower dearer
little things can be lost forever. Little things
mean a lot.

Life's a Lot Like Baseball

“Life’s A Lot Like Baseball”

Life’s a lot like baseball, neither is a simple game.
Each is filled with the stuff of life.
Both, so much the same.
Complete with hard work and training, nearly every day.
In each, one learns to catch and throw;
and taking bases along the way.

Everyone is a baseball player;
whether on shortstop, in the dugout or at the pitcher’s mound.
It doesn’t really matter where we are
as long as we are team players, dedicated all around.

Sometimes we catch the balls;sometimes we may miss.
But everything’s A-OK, as long as we try again even if the crowd boos a hiss.
Every once in a while, when we're batting well,
we may even hit a desired home run.
Life seems so good; such a celebration time,
filled with much laughter and fun.

When we strike out, we need to remember…
Not all is lost; we’re still part of a great world team.
If we are down on ourselves for not playing well,
we just need to try again,
because the game is never as bad as it seems.

When we are mad or disappointed with other players,
we need to give them the benefit of the doubt.
They could be struggling with problems unseen,
and we wouldn’t want to wrongly shout, “You’re Out”!

Sometimes we might attend a game
to encourage or watch others play.
It could be family, friends or anyone,
we are there to encourage and inspire them on their way.

Yes, life is a lot like baseball;
with its seasons, players and teams ever changing, as its always been.

Remember though, we are all in this together,

to support,

to cheer,

to win!

Premium Member Little Things Mean a Lot

It's the little things in life that mean so much

That steaming cup of hot coffee waiting for you as you greet the day

The cheery hello from a neighbour

As you stumble out of the house, briefcase and keys in hand

Ready for the challenges of yet another exciting day

The smile on the traffic cop's face at the corner

As he waves you through after the kiddies have crossed the street

After your gruelling hour long commute

You get to the office and the day starts with high-fives

The cute new secretary gives you a big smile

As you rush by heading for your office

Those long arduous meetings that go on late into the afternoon

Where everyone finally finds out the company has had

It's best year to date and you feel proud

That you had even just a small part in it's success

Then after fighting the late afternoon rush hour traffic

You return home exhausted only to be greeted

By your adoring family and you feel on top of the world

None of these things individually make your day

But all of these things combined make you aware

We're all so lucky to be alive

And that little things mean a lot

A Lot More Than My Ego Got Bruised

Too high
on Rye

Make pass
at Lass

Her date?
Six-eight

Out weighed
(DISmayed!)

BRIEF brawl
Get mauled...

Forsooth!
(Loose tooth)

Oh my!
(Black eye)

Behold!
(Out cold)

------------

Sunlight
Too BRIGHT

I ache
I quake

I heave
I grieve

Poor me
(Agree?)

Premium Member A Lot To Giveaway

…….a lot to giveaway

Nothing is sweeter than restored faith,
as too, the restored hotplate, the crashed computer
now renewed by the turn of a screw.
The electrician, the technician who overthrew such
arrogant technology, and me faithless, yet

I remember, time standing still, eternal,
 Summer’s afternoons, in boarding school
left with only paper, scissors and glue and
 the enchanted worlds that grew

Childhood is a lot,
too much to giveaway for this
complicated adulthood, never to find that child
 the little lost pilgrim –
 her inventive-ness.

~I Like it A Lot~
(Anaphora/Monorhyme/Sonnet)

I like doing what I'm suppose to do
I like watching each sunrise sunset 'new
I like crafts where can use paper and glue
I like to hear my cats saying mew, mew

I like it a lot when friends are real
I like having each day a healthy meal
I like it when shopping find a good deal
I like great paintings that are surreal

I like it when smiles and cheers are wide spread
I like it when the wind blows all the hair on my head
I like to go to sleep in my nice bed
I like making friendship bracelets with thread

I like it when friends are sincere, and true
I like it when I spend some time with you.

With minus 16 degrees and
starry sky when the light took night

                          Six days to Christmas
and we all expect a visit from the North Pole

Santa's body shape and apparently huge belly
is a sign that should be taken seriously,
diabetes and high blood pressure
At risk of life and health - spread of covid-19

This Christmas he is working in unfavorable working conditions
Nine hundred visits per second ... no wonder
he gets stressed, sweaty and red at the top

Listen here my friends
Everything you need, is a red hat and white beard
Santa needs your support
but, remember to keep distance, face mask and gloves
