Gray clouds
gather
in the hollow
of my throat.
I chart
their movement
northwest wind,
barometric drop,
the way lightning
splits
behind my ribs.
Rain arrives
without apology.
I open my hands,
count the drops.
When sun
breaks through,
I don't close
the windows.
I've learned
to read
the sky of myself
each front
moving in,
each clearing after.
The waves
keep coming.
I keep
learning
to swim.

Gray air.
Silent lair.
Rain: needles threaded
threaded with liquid despair.
Old man. Chair.
Window bare.
Suffers existence
with time to spare.
Life behind.
Daily grind.
Wealthy: healthy
state of mind.
Arthritic form.
Barometric norm.
Tears: who left the child
out in the storm.

Last Night was a beautiful night
The fire pit burning bright
Today is full of rain
With barometric pressure pain
Blanket on to keep me warm
While I listen to the outside storm
Hot cup of Joe by my side
Taking life in my stride
Nursing all my cracks and creases
Mending all my broken pieces
Taking time out for my heart
Making myself a beautiful art
Filling holes with lacquer Gold
So I can be no longer old
Fragments bonded back together
So I can withstand any weather
Kintsugi highlights imperfections
Mending all the lost connections
Embracing flaws for all to see
Think I’ll pour some gold in me.

I am warm wind rising into cold air
I am surging unstable atmosphere
I am the tangible feeling up there
The tension in sky before I appear
The ominous still before the severe
I am our Mother Nature’s rebel child
I am barometric deviant wild
I am lightning strikes waiting to perform
I am the hail and thunder reconciled
A blackened midday sky. I am the storm.

Windy wild wind whipping flailing and cutting through
You bring us together like invisible glue
Holding hats and huddling hands clasping crunched capes
Jealous soul you bold barometric beast
Hairdos, skirts, scarves, hats and pails blown away in envious fury
If we could capture you you’d be in front of a jury!

Dismal, gloomy
is the Future forecast
Ominous beta waves
carry neural turbulence of
mood destruction
Nocturnal tempest creates
a cyclonic flow
Cranial pressure release
a petulant downpour —
Tsunami tears on the pillow
Whither does those idyllic memories blow?
These stormy, overcast feelings
don’t appear to be bosom bound tropical
Grey matter skies
darken the dawn horizon
Reluctant to arise,
it’s safer to
shutter the optical windows
Let the barometric recall pressure subside
Bad weather thoughts
will soon muse altitude change
Monsoon emotions still seems to sigh abide
Disaffection tide wrought,
clear conscience is out of range
No slumber relief to ease
the torrential pain

The heart wanted the apple pie, but the mind knew better.
Had a fist fight daily, no matter what barometric pressure or weather.
I want what I want the heart insisted, persisted, alive and well.
Forget it, lady, replied the mind. I’d sooner see you in h…..
Can an alliance be formed? Can the mind and heart somehow agree?
I think it is possible; giving them a tiny, heartfelt push and a plea.
Heart craved walnuts, but was allergic so Mind would protest.
Mind suspected the worst, stopping the heart daily, I have to confess.
Battled daily, up and down fields, hills, and under a steep walkway.
Too serious, unfortunately, neither knew how to loosen or play.

A pro bowler is not thought of as a precision performer
Laying a 16-pound ball in the exact same spot
Over and over again, as many as 300 times a day
Morning, afternoon and evening for weeks on end
Nor is he deemed a disciplined practitioner of his trade
His temperament even, with a mindset honed to forever
Look forward to the next frame, to the next challenge
No matter that the spare he just failed to pick up cost him dearly
His has not the cunning of a geometry-savvy billiards player
Who knows all the angles on every lane, the dips and
The curves, and even the effect of the temperature and
The barometric pressure on the way his ball will roll
He is not feted as a brave warrior, who subjects his rolling elbow
To incredible amounts of torque over the course of a career
Which can easily span three or more decades of battling tenpins...
No, he is just the man-child next door living out his youthful dreams

showed a Fat Man how to
blot out an Empire’s rising sun.
Proliferation’s need pushed
Sellafield and Kyshtym to trip chasing Manhattan.
Twenty two years later and just

fused to the tit of a beast we can’t tame.

polar vortex intensifies
as bitter arctic air
ushers in the new year
winter storm conditions
stir gusts of wind
scattering good wishes
prevailing disturbances
eventually converge
as high chance
depression and instability
will soon dissipate
accumulation of good cheer
will undoubtedly release

you’ll be trading
your ice storm warning for
a high probability of a warm front
with a heavy surf watch

I've got a headache
I left you in bed, feeling I was upset with you
And left the house without a goodbye
The city's miserable when the weather's grey
I see it in the postures of people on the sidewalks
There's tension in every face, neck and shoulder
From withstanding barometric weight
There must be more fights on days like these
People snapping at each other over the nothings
I'm mean when the atmosphere leans into me
I try to remember I don't feel this way
And rationally tell myself not to be cruel,
But I cannot be reasoned with when a storm's overhead
And I make it seem like it's your fault
That you've pushed me to be like this
I stew in a forecast of doom and gloom until it passes
And when the clouds finally disperse, the heaviness will lift
Sunshine will bring guilt and remorse over what I've been
And I'll apologize for how I am and we'll be happy again
At least while the sky’s clear
