A great musical artist is Gladys Knight.
However, things with her were not quite right.
Financial situations were enduring stormy weather.
So, Dionne Warwick, Elton John, and I got together.
Along with Gladys, we entered a recording studio.
We collaborated on a song many got to know.
The four of us made a popular video.
Our hit was played on many a radio station.
Proceeds from the music bailed her out of her situation.

A town like Alice

Domestic Violence rates that mean
Children roam in gangs becoming mean
They are untouchable by the law
Racking up court appearances by the score

People are unsafe in their homes
Whilst these gangs assault and steal during their lawless roam
One two month old baby held close
Receiving a fractured skull for which we weep the most

This offender with 300 court appearances
Has been bailed 33 times with no adherence
Breaking into houses is his way
What penalty for this crime would make him sway?

How do we stop this anarchy
It’s Australia’s shame the world can see
The police seem to have their hands tied
Nevil Shute’s A town like Alice had died!

Premium MemberOnce in, Fight to Win

When the Allies won WW Two
       Who dared say boo

From 1948 to '73, Israel won four wars
Her brave civilian-soldiers rightly admired too

When America bailed out of Vietnam
It paved the way for her disgraceful exit from Afghanistan

Though war may be the last resort
once in, fight to win ~ never abort

What to do?

There are questions,
and many many more,
ceasing the actions,
till the very shore.
its natural to ponder,
over things, I think,
but too much wonder,
oh! it leads to sink.
then what to do? now,
confused and unsure,
the dark mist--oh how?
to cross and endure.
there is no light dears,
and is no sound,
my brain and mind tears,
I feel totally bound.
I wish that someway,
these chains unknown break,
let me be free, anyway,
and always awake,
I see as if I am jailed,
in this civilisation,
Oh, I see most haven't bailed,
Living in desperation.
what to do? what to do? screams-
shouts my heart loud,
then the silence speaks,
it speaks to me aloud-
'Do nothing if you can, Oh!'
'dear my listen!'
I felt I can't, though,
then what is the provision?
Well, there is none probably
it seemes quite clear,
this one life is holy-
and is only what I bear.
Enter the mist, proceed the dark,
however you may do ,
hope don't for a spark,
'The Dark Awaits you too'.

Chasing Clouds Out Of His Bleary Sky

The unbearable grief he never wished for or imagined
made him a secluded man shunning all Humanity;
he clung to a feeble breath so void of each certainty,
telling himself he had to fight harder and be admired.

I saw him chasing clouds out of his bleary sky
with an urge stronger than desire, " Let no hope
be held from me, I deserve joy unlikely anybody."
What made change his mind staring at that rope?

How many bottles of rum he had stored in his hut?
Did the small paycheck he earned cover the hefty price?
At no vail, he tried to rob the local liquor store twice;
nobody bailed him out, prison brought despair not guilt.

He sits in the coldest room staring at the darkest sky,
who dares to shake his hand and lift him up to mollify
his confined spirit not emboldened by actual reality?
Help him overcome his dire loneliness and sobriety!

Sticking By A Troubled Friend

Problems come and problems go
But there's one thing you should know
If good friends stand by your side
Helping through the bumpy ride
Knowing love is all around
Till your back on level ground
The smallest problems disappear
Soon they are no longer there
Days are happier again
With the good kind hearted friends
Who never bailed or walked out
Their minds without a single doubt
Sticking by a friend in trouble
Running to you on the double
With hugs tightly warm and soothing
Holding on and never losing
Sight of what needs to be done
True friends will not leave or shun
They'll hang on until the day
Your frown turns the other way
Back into a joyful smile
That has been away awhile

Favorite Things

Dirty martinis and Cuban cigars
Fishnet stockings on hookers Playing my guitar.
Long days at the beach
Women without wedding rings
Making a list of my favorite things

Sex before Breakfast
Out running the cops
A judge that grants bail
Then getting bailed out.
Books by Sandra Cisneros
And Renaissance Art,
All of these things have a special place in my heart

But when the bars close
And I'm still sober
My dealer doesn't answer the phone
I think on these things
To keep from getting pissed off
And I express how I feel
in a poem.

Rock n' Roll music and classic cars
Rockford Files reruns
Deep cuts that leave scars
My probation officer not making me drop
Dive bars bad girls and musty bookshops

A day at Wrigley
Watching the Cubs
Cool Tucson mornings
And falling in love
The sound of my children's laughter
and the first day of spring
What an exceptional life I've had to be part of all these things.

But when I'm hungover
And I've got warrants
Or when my car breaks down
I think about all of my favorite things
And haul my butt out of town

Premium MemberThe Ghosts of Altoona

Some daysI feel it's time to move and
live by the sea, especially when the ghosts of
Altoona are haunting me..
Many cities in Pa., so rich in history,

They were hey days in their time.
It's no mystery...
This once-booming railroad town
is still being visited by those now underground..
Home to the infamous Horse Shoe Curve, with
its one-way tunnel that will truly unnerve..
Many unsuspecting drivers attempted to navigate
and met their swift untimely fate...
At 17th Street, a circus train derailed. Again, many
lost their lives as the animals all bailed.
Just like a used tire that manufacturers retread,
some people that die by accident are unaware that they are dead.
Most days I just pray and ask them to kindly move on, for
the ghosts of Altoona, I wave my magic wand.

Solace of the Willows

Solace Of The Willows

He flew the coop
Was what they said
Though I knew
Better
Was we who fled
We who cried
We who hid

I lost a dad
A dad
I never had
A dad
Who never cared

I still recall
The willows
Tall
Weeping
Weeping for us all

Blowing to the wind
Giving
Swaying
Whatever comfort
It can

At the doorstep
Of our new home
Told
You’re not welcome
Told
We must go

Broken
To shattered
Then scattered about
"He flew the coop”
While we all bailed out

Premium MemberKestrel

Corn is harvested and hay neatly bailed
Indian summer hovers over field
Wind frolicker dived smoothly then impaled
Unwary creature who was unconcealed.

Small bird of prey with beautiful feathers
Keen-eyed Kestrel looking for easy prey
Golden autumn simmers perfect weather
Mammals scatter in rush to get away

Kestrel is focused gliding back and forth
Harvested field's microcosm of zest
Onlooker gripped by sadness and remorse
But Nature as always ever knows best.

Kestrel is formidable bird of prey
Wind frolickers will always 'seize the day'.

Making Do

The holiday cabin smelled of wet pigeons
but it was lakeside and cheap.

The lake was not popular,
too deep and weedy for swimming,
too shallow for docking boats,
yet it suited our make-do mindsets.

Of course,
we were romantically attached at the hips,
feet glided upon air
as we wandered upon the pebbly beach
fingers entwined in a dank mist.

Graham crackers and marshmallows
were unpacked
alas the firepit was soaked
with too much leafy fog.

A desultory fire was sparked
in a damp bed beneath a mildewed roof.

We had only tomato soup, tough bagels
and a pack of Marlborough.
We had not planned for chills and hunger.

Inevitably the vacation
grew lukewarm.
Runny noses and sneezes,
the cheesy smell of wet footwear
all seeped deeply into our gestalt,

philosophically
we bailed on the quickly drenched dream,
and each other.

But fleet on his feet, ol Santa’s too quick
Once again, he’s gone rope’n

Knots In the Chain

IT IS TOUGH TO FACE DEFEAT,
KNOWING I FAILED.
  MY PARTNER OF TEN YEARS,
UP AND BAILED.

  YOU CAN SEE THE PAIN,
ALL OVER MY FACE.
  I THOUGHT SHE HAD,
FALLING FROM GRACE.

FOR A LONG TIME, I BLAMED
EVERYONE ELSE.
  WHAT A SURPRISE, NONE OTHER
THEN HERSELF.

  I'M STUCK HERE PAYING
THE PRICE.
  SHE MOVED ON AND STARTED
A NEW LIFE.

  I'M HELPLESS AND HOPELESSLY
LOST.
  LOVING HER CAME WITH A
COST.

I SIT AND REMINISCE IN THE
PAST.
AT A LOVE I THOUGHT WOULD
LAST.

THE FIRST TIME I SAW HER,
SUNSHINE ON A RAINY DAY.
  An ANGEL SENT FROM
FAR, FAR AWAY.

  SO MANY MEMORIES,
SO MUCH I REMEMBER.
  IT FLOODS MY THOUGHTS,
INCREASES MY TEMPER.

NO NEED FOR ME TO TRY AND
EXPLAIN.
AN ANGEL THAT BRINGS MISERY AND
PAIN.

TO LOVE A DEMON WHO COULD
NEVER BE TAME.
  TOO MANY KNOTS WITHIN
THE CHAIN.

Build Hope-Dam Across Exam

Result of an examination
Must not give botheration
But, promote determination
And plenty of concentration

In case one has failed
Adverse news is mailed
Still one can be bailed
Let not one be assailed

This time one has not passed
One is by failure now bossed
Though one is outclassed
Agony must not be caused

Let "what one person has achieved
Can be done by all" be believed
Proper strategy must be conceived
So success in exam is received

Practice is a sure winner
Do it in a hopeful manner
Be a highly skillful planner
He who retreats is a sinner.
