There I was just me myself
it just seemed I knew no one
my parents had been cut off
there I was me their only son
On the seafront at Largs
away for the day being only nine
in a moment what do I do
panic set in felt out of line
But thankfully they saw me
reconnected again all together
at that moment felt really alone
all had changed except the weather
This reminds one of Jesus childhood
thinking of when Jesus went away
from His parents for they were shocked
not realizing He was in the temple all-day
But Jesus was in control back then
where I was not sure what to do
two opposites for sure in contrast
where were you? a question all so true!
(This tale really happened on the Scottish seaside town on Largs on the Ayrshire coast, where I got lost from my parents these many years ago.
This is written telling of this experience comparing it with Jesus's parents losing Him in Jerusalem 2000 years ago.)

In this town, I've lived for 30 years
having been brought up down Ayrshire way
but meeting Christine took me away
to Renfrew where I'd for rest of life stay
It's a small town just like any other
being a royal burgh it's history's long
as it's never to be my home town
where one's born and bred is your song
Although I've said what I've just said
this town is ideally in the right place
so much good access down to the coast
as well as great transport links which is ace
Having large shopping centre on its doorstep
wherein history Renfrew Castle sat there
so that's the town where I do live
nothing great but has folk who do care

There's a place I love to walk along
that brings along a breeze in the air
as your feet in the sand leaves its mark
so thrilling having this place so rare
On Bonnie Scotland's country of Ayrshire
at Irvine's beach park on the west coast
looking back over the hilly slopes behind
such a picture of inspiration one can boast
One watches the waves roll in
so fully transforming upon the mind
the ripples of water so soothing
makes your pen move to be signed
Standing watching dogs have fun
splashing among the waters blue
matching the beautiful sky above
a picture indeed looks brand new
Memories of this keep me going
when in bleak winter can't get there
lifts your spirit makes one's ink flow
gives one's writing an added flair
(Writing on my favourite inspirational place to visit uplifting my spirits and give me the needed direction to write with heavenly guidance.)

It's one of the plus's of living in Scotland
if you are over the 60 plus age band
travel is free from John O'Groats to Dumfries
giving one the opportunity having a free hand
In a land like Scotland full of great scenery
rugged mountainside and lochs so deep
surrounded by oceans east and west
the Atlantic and the North Sea are a mighty leap
So, my favourite trips are to Inverness and Perth
also love Dunfermline, Andrew Carnegie's town
Edinburgh the capital with its wonderful castle
many lovely places in the borders to be found
Being brought up in the county of Ayrshire
I love to go back and walk Irvine's beach
also back to Kilmarnock bring the memories back
there my home town kept me on the right track
So the buses with its many numbers
taking us over 60s far and near
deckers single and double all for free
blessed trips always forever in top gear

My Tongue has been through a lot
stuttering for the whole of my years
with a Scottish dialect as well
which is rather speedy full of fears
The quickness of my words so unclear
makes others find it hard to grasp
needing often to repeat myself
Scots and stutter no easy task
Having been brought up in Ayrshire
in the Robert Burns home countryside
where the accent is extremely broad
such a variety of tongue's to confide
Many a word spoken in Ayrshire's tone
to 'ken' is to know, 'whit' means what
'hung' is to hang, 'yon' means there
just a few original words to bat!
( I have written this about my Mother Tongue in a few poetic words to describe all that it can involve.)

1980
With deep sadness, I heard the awful news,
My favourite stand up comedian Richard Pryor,
It was June 9th while being in a drug-induced psychosis,
He poured rum over his body and set himself on fire.
1981
It was cold December everywhere was covered with snow,
I was living in Ayrshire, Scotland, on the 24th day,
Everything was in order, all was going remarkably well,
I said I do and married my wife Elizabeth Daye.
1983 - 1984
My wife gave birth to my first daughter, Lily, Louise,
She was a beautiful child not because she was mine,
Sofie, Lexie was born giving me daughter number two;
That was May the year after on a sunny morning on day nine.
1986
Shocked I was by the sudden death of my beloved father,
I was the youngest and looked very much like him;
Six months after that, I was to receive the same news,
The death of my grandmother Kimberley but we called her Kim.

My early days upon this earth
was filled with questions and disquiet
not knowing where would I end up
perplexed mixed up my mind felt on a diet
These days lasted a whole six weeks
in that time all uncertain full of doubt
feeling unloved, unwanted and all forsaken
thinking what is this world all about?
After birth is given up by my earth Mother
I was taken to church children's home
all in the hope that I would be adopted
but nothing was sure did even have a comb?
Thinking back now can't remember much
of the time there but I must have been
anxious, nervous, fearful since then I stammer
maybe these days caused made tongue unclean
But thankfully I was adopted at six weeks
taken by a couple with no kids in Ayrshire
now looking back over all these years
thanks to God providentially saved from the mire

What makes one to write verse?
especially when school days was zero
english classes were complete bore
always at bottom so was no hero
This so well describes me then
couldn't wait to get away from school
didn't know what my future would hold
letter writing I loved pen was fav tool
Now looking back maybe just not right time
needing encouragement for ink to flow
time was on my side for to develop
best things in life sometimes come slow
Even reading poetry didn't really excite
as Ayrshire lad wasn't drawn to Robert Burns
it took holidays down in Lake district area
view Wordsworth house for mind take turns
Now finally things coming together
the inner ink gradually dripping out
admit I'm not that great so far
such pleasure to write without doubt
God has filled me with His truth
so I need to faithfully tell it forth
seeking to give God all the glory
inspired from one divine source
(My coming together to write poetry was a slow long trip but it now comes as a great joy to do. )

Abby comes from Largs in Scotland,
And is visually impaired by Stargardt,
The progressive vision disease panned,
By some of the other Paralympians.
Born on the 4th day of August 2003,
She’s a student at Largs Academy,
She trains hard in the backstroke,
At N. Ayrshire Amateur Swim Club.
So because she’s only thirteen,
Rio was her first Paralympic games,
But for the backstroke 100m S13,
She took silver in a time of 1:09.09.
When she was very young her family,
Holidayed in Australia, and, sad,
That she couldn’t swim, like the rest,
She learnt afterwards with desire.

Kilmarnock is two places split by Atlantic
one in Virginia other in Ayrshire
they are of different character straits
all bringing their own dimensions higher
The Virginia brand settled way back in early 1600s
originally known as ‘the Crossroads’ as it began
this charming small town is on east Peninsula
between Potomac and Rappahannock waters have ran
The Ayrshire version sits seven miles from coast
the largest town in all of Ayrshire county
famous for it’s whisky, carpets and bonnet making
becoming a royal burgh in 1672 was it’s bounty
In America’s ‘Killie’ town to admire so much
join the Chesapeake Bay wine trail few miles away
see the birth place of Washington and Robert E. Lee
so much to enjoy never fill it in a whole day
In Scotland’s ‘Killie’ town they remember
their national bard Robert Burns no less
his first printed works called ‘Kilmarnock’ edition
to read Rabbie’s words is a sure bless!
(Having recently came to know of a Kilmarnock in USA and having lived my first 36 years in Kilmarnock in Scotland, so thought I would try and bring their respective highs together in written form.)
(KILLIE- is Scots nickname for Kilmarnock)

I am like everybody else
created to be individually unique
which does blow your mind
for I feel to be really weak
A Scotsman born in Glasgow
adopted at six weeks moved to Ayrshire
lived out in the countryside
loved the outdoors never did tire
Always had stammering difficulty
hard to speak no matter the scene
in later years loved classical music
brought calm to mind felt so clean
Then got into poetry for real
reading and writing loved this time
such verse that inspired the mind
life's now in tuneful rhyme
I'm now in retirement years
enjoying life and loving Christine
celebrated silver wedding last year
where have all the years been?!!

Having lived in Scottish Countryside
during my early formative childhood
a river flowed behind house
many moments there I stood
On a sunny summers day
there watched time go by
so peaceful tranquil setting
makes one want everlasting high
This is the river Irvine
running round it's every bend
taking it's streaming tide along
this stream never to end
Many a walk I've took
with Cora my friendly dog
along this on spring night
taking rest on wooden log
These are such precious memories
one's that need kept in mind
so to be thankful always
for these moments always shined
(This River Irvine runs from Lanarkshire/Ayshire border in south west Scotland ending at the town of Irvine in North Ayrshire.)

In growing up in the country
in a cottage by a farm
we had a pet dog called Glen
was real friendly full of charm
My dad, Glen and I was working away
at neighbouring farm on the hill
Glen a sprightly brown coloured Collie
loved racing the fields couldn't keep still
On finishing work we drove back home
twenty miles in the wet and rain
on way home discovered no Glen
so arrived at home feel real pain
Decided to get some needed sleep
when making supper heard bark at door
opened the door to a great surprise
wet and soaked but my heart did soar
Glen was home travelled all way back
on his own without any kind of aid
a mighty surprise was this indeed
this dog's directive sense is first grade
(This was true story growing up on farm in Ayrshire in south west Scotland.)
