Antilles Poems

Premium MemberShips Figurehead

There once was a pirate from Antilles
That chased all the young beautiful fillies
To all a deception vow
Carving of them on ships bow
Lies brought doom, now lies in field of lilies

Premium MemberThe Antilles Pinktoe Tarantula

I am the prettiest tarantula in the Caribbean Sea
My web is the most intricate of my kind, a cone in a tree.
When I get larger my tummy turns red, and my legs turn purple-green.
Anole lizards are my absolutely favorite cuisine.

Dana Sees the Southern Cross

Off Terra Firma sixteen weeks now.
My legs take roots; my eyes become infinite.
Past the Tropic of Cancer, the Lesser Antilles.
Talk of brown skinned girls, Purple Clouds of Magellan.
The Southern Cross peeking above the horizon at 18N°.

Those first few nights I stared at the wrong stars in my
confident knowing. A seabird landed
on the gunwale and mocked me, “Sunk now are your
North Star and Great Bear.”
“Sunk now are your North Star and Great Bear.”
I unlock an ancient mystery.
You take shape like a paragon in the sky.
Four beaming stars agleam forming the points of a cross.
Climbing higher and brighter. To be steered upon due south.

By Terra Del Fuego, you are directly above. Your language is universal.
Taking up our stern till we sink into the El Salvadorian night.

Haiti

In Western hemisphere located
“The Pearl of the Antilles”
Thus, for all formerly called
Was due however, its natural beauty
For the Hispaniola Island
It is only a small western portion

With 2680 meters of altitude
Pic la selle stands up
And both the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea
As that sentry, guarding the infinity
Of shipwrecked pieces of black suit history

Patriot and martyr, was his illustrious son
The slave Toussaint L'Ouverture
Reading and writing, also known
For later, the revolution to join
And with all others under the same allegiance
Of freedom, making the great foundation

The Caribbean

small islands surround by the caribbean sea
from the greater and lesser antilles
Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, Guyana just to name a few
the place where tourist comes to see the caribbean view
music, beaches, sports our culture they come to see
from that hard labour they want to be free.

The River Sea

THE RIVER SEA

Even from islands of the Antilles -
Taking Pinzon’s route to El Dorado
In the very foothills of the Andes
And its golden yellow meadow.

Death-dealing its piranha and crocodile;
Life-giving, the earth’s river-daughter -
With its fast bore fierce and tidal -
Floods half a continent with water,

Floods half the planet with oxygen.
Large ocean ships sail up it free.
Probes fresh lobes far into salt ocean.
To Brazilians it is - The River Sea.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

NOTE

Vicente Yanez Pinzon was the first European
to visit the Amazon in 1500

AMAZON

Death-dealing its piranha and crocodile
And its fast bore fierce and tidal.
Life-giving, the earth’s river-daughter
Floods half a continent with water,
Floods half the planet with oxygen,
Probes fresh lobes far into salt ocean.

To Brazilians it is The River Sea -
Large ocean ships sailed up it free,

Taking Pinzon’s route to El Dorado
And its golden yellow meadow.
