Premium Memberlife of her own making

Alienating friends and family
She could do naturally
Her own recurring theme

She dies friendless and completely alone
Of course this was her own choice
A life of her making

Premium MemberPoetry Soup Poets

I won't pick out one special Poetry Soup poet
None of us are worthy of being a poet Laureate
Choosing just one who has skills shouldn't be a goal
It's like separating a favorite sheep from the foal
Saying its wool has the most beautiful fleece
doesn't seem to be the right way to have peace

There are many poets who write with quality
and if I choose only one, I'd owe an apology
to those I didn't honor by using their name
I don't want to be guilty and won't take the blame
for entering any contest on Poetry Soup
that might hurt someone's feelings in the group

Picking a favorite could cause further division
I don't think alienating any poet is a good decision
Congrats to those who earn it with great writing
No one deserves to be overlooked by slighting
It's my opinion so I have the freedom to say
If peace is to exist in PS, it won't be found this way

Some great poems are written as lyrics to a song
but naming one above the others seems wrong
Tell those you admire by making kind comments
Prevent hurt feelings and ill will before it ferments
Such divisiveness might hurt another poet's heart
It's not pleasant to taste buds, too sour and too tart

Poem

my leather jacket smelled of undustrial cigarettes, grey music was echoing through my ear drums, and everything was green when i looked at the train's window. and i don't write poems anymore, only bits and pieces from my alienating memory. and i feel, i feel, i feel, ifeelifeel. on a loop, over and over. oh but the things i feel when i sense the gaze upon my body. but the pure euphoria in my veins when our legs are dancing, right on the surface of black sheets. and the contrast of colours. the colours.
am i being sentimental?
                                perhaps.

Be You

Do you look at the sky
when it precipitates?
The originally watery form
is the real you.
Transparent and clear
While that cloudy frosty form,
when you are down,
opaques your identity.
The obsession
of considering others superior,
alienating yourself
blinds you
from appreciating the reality.
Remember
It's the rainbow
which adds colours to the sky
more commonly
not a snowbow

Premium MemberWinter Dirge

The earth is cold
distant fires burn--
icy arrows
pierce my sullen body
and the emptiness
becomes unbearable.

Without her
the wind
is my enemy
and the glowering
sky suggests
her absence.

I seek warmth
in my moribund cave
thawing my brain with firewater
waiting for the
alienating glaciers
to thaw.

Appreciation of the Small

Drinking yesterday’s coffee,
not throwing it out.
Looking around at the four walls.
They are still there…and I am still here.

Time has lost all meaning.
I had to look at a real calendar.
I have begun to mark off the days,
with giant X’s.
They seem somehow comforting,
angry and alienating at times too.

I am holding up.
My family is well.
No one is sick so far.
But we have all been changed.
Not in a small way.
Dramatically.

How many socks does any one person need?
How many shoes, at one time?
How many pens in the drawer?
Paper unwritten upon,
but yet holding the promise of something,
Yet to come…

Take from this,
all of this…
Learn something you did not know before.
Do life differently when next you are…
given the chance to;
say hi to a friend,
hug a loved one,
walk a dog without care.
Plant flowers in the sun,
ride your motorcycle for fun…

Premium MemberMeeting a Self-Professed Genius

She knew it all; she was brilliant. A genius.
I had never met her before, but she told me right away.
I watched my tablemate’s faces. They knew her. They were grinning.

I will do that! She said at every task we were given that day.
The others backed off right away; I was the only one who fought her.
But after a bit of time, I too, gave up.

It was not worth taking on her intense knowledge
That she was the only one who would do the task in a brilliant way.
She was a genius. She said. She was the best. She said.

A genius at alienating other people.
The best at being a selfish, know-it-all who did not know what a team was.
I, I, I, me, me, me, she sang as she did all of the tasks.

It was the last time I made the mistake
Of sitting at a table with her.
She had taught me that at least.

Premium MemberWhat Kind of Slime Ball

What kind of slime ball are you dating? She asked her niece.
The kind of slime ball that used to be married to you,
her niece responded in a sassy mean way.
Ending all conversation and alienating the family in one swell swoop.

How dumb are you? He asked his cousin.
His cousin knew that to respond would be silly,
So he was silent, infuriating the one who likes to argue with everybody.

Negativity breeds negativity.
The only way to get around it, is to get away from it.
Even if it means dropping your family of origin
for a new family of friends.
But certainly worth it.

Premium MemberThe Lure of the Familiar

The streets of yesterday, comforting
   The landscape of tomorrow, forbidding

Familiar foods rouse fond memories
   Tampering with tradition, disapproval

My well-worn armchair's form-fitted to me
That new recliner, stiff as a bad knee

Your scent, your aura, ingratiating
   All others, alienating

Let Misinterpretation Remain Sparse

Human race, don’t boast on the casualty coast
Frisking, seeking, pricking and nicking the truth
On a continental coast as to your truth you toast
Sending to Coventry the uncouth

Pummeling the truth, belittling the youth
Whose views you deride
As your rollercoaster swings South
In the company of your petty pride

In tow to brandish the interpretation
You vaunt with no iota of shame
At the place of honour you accord to the incantation
You blurt in the claim

You push far above merit
Twisting the truth, alienating allies
Although the truth you fail to inherit
In the realm where lies and flies

Sometimes cohabit
Dancing in tandem with hubris
Cultivated into a horrible habit
Which tends to increase

At sunup, at sunset
When the truth cries
Causing a major upset
As the zone of the truth decries

Sufferings the truth endures
In diverse fora
Where jesters ensure cures
Arrive fast to prevent error and terror

From decimating puritan platforms
Preventing them descending into the farce
That demeans the truth in its multifarious forms
While ascertaining misinterpretation remains sparse.

What Ifs

By far the saddest thing ever experienced
Is separating from family members
Because of drama
We fail to see the big picture
And what is really important
We are only on this Earth for a short time
There is only enough time for love, not hate
Our most precious gift is our family
Even with our tempers, screw-ups and egos
We must never forsake our family
The pain of alienating and driving away a family member
Stings and never goes away
We can understand when
A stranger hurts us
But never a loved one
This type of broken heart never heals
And festers for a lifetime
then it is too late for what ifs and should ofs
We say we want to forgive
We try to convince ourselves all is forgiven
And it’s all in the past
but that lie is part of the pain

Premium MemberHuman Transgression

If we could delight in everyone with kindness
Our world will be peaceful, never alienating
The ideals and hopes of women, children,
As the freedom of life is a man’s birthright :
Yet, swindlers deceive people who seek
A better tomorrow which is fair, dignified
Respecting not their value of equal opportunity…

But greed malice leaves hopeful dreamers
Sinking in the fissure of broken nights,
Traded like cattle, reduced as slaves, lowly brides
While human trafficking lurks unresolved
A barter, a cruel deal of society’s infraction:
Though I join lobbying for deprived citizens,
Grease of billion dollars hide this ruthless transgression
Why? Why? For bribery offered is intoxicating, enticing,
At the expense of God’s daughters and captive sons.

Introspection

Only I’ll embrace you,
Only I’ll show you the secrets,
The secrets of love…
It did put conditions that I could sense
I felt unwonted
Do you remember?
When spring asked me!
Little amount of curiousness I also had
It wasn’t a reverie or dream
All it was live with love
There I really spoke to spring
It reminded me,
Of when I exposed my feelings,
Of the moments with my love,
Of the breezes,
Which helped me to put forth my emotions
Something helped me in doing so,
Finally I realised,
With utmost urge to meet the subject…
What are those conditions?
I asked,
To care for my esthetics
To love my components
To love my nature I come with
It replied,
What it replied!
I actually do not replicate so,
As I’m always busy in making it to extinction
By smoke along with its aides…
And I do not feel ashamed
For being the one of alienating and killing it,
And I’m the one
Of killing the cure of humans!!
But still,
I’m without introspection…
