Adrienne

Snoopy, kewpie, Barbie, Ken,
Chicken-licken, Hen-len,
Can’t compete with Adrienne.

Andrew Jackson, William Penn?
“Bolero”, “Arthur”, “Tarzan”, “Ten”?
Not a patch on Adrienne.

My Adrienne’s a honey:
She’s witty, pretty, funny:
looks great in silks and satins
and mixes mean Manhattans.

Tagus, Tiber, Severn, Seine,
zloty, sous, sestertii, yen -
I prefer my Adrienne.

Armstrong, Aldrin, Colonel Glenn?
Zoroaster? Zion? Zen?
Think I’ll stick with Adrienne!

Premium Member Buzz Aldrin Makes a Confession

That the moon landing was fake? No. Not that! But, in fact it was he not Neil in one famous photograph. The most important thing at Tranquility Base was open the hatch, after that one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind! And then the photo, perfectly staged, in the visor reflection history shown with landing craft and astronaut -- the view was out of this world, what an amazing location, location, location!

For All Mankind

Beyond like a dream
 unfolding on this historic day
astronauts head skyward - heroes,
fools, call them what you may

The world watches in awe
its genesis where no man has been.
Strange land, a new beginning -
behold the lunar return to Eden

A cratered moon beckons,
this globe of reflected light -
Armstrong and Aldrin silently land,
 Mike Collins considers his plight

Each man had their rituals
 at this point in time.
Aldrin in silence broke the bread
 and drank the holy wine

Now only bootprints remain
for some celestial traveller to find,
and a commemorative plaque that reads
“We came in peace for all mankind”

O’ moon, they walked over you -
 revealed, you shine naked.
Your secrets exposed in the name of man...
 Christ! Is nothing sacred?

Mission

(Based on Space Oddity by David Bowie)

Ground Control to Major Tom.
Ground Control to Major Tom.
Take your protein pills
and put your helmet on.

Watching safely from a distance’s
never been my cup of tea,
so I climbed into a tin can
and may God’s love be with me,

counting down in my head,
check ignition, engine’s on,
like Buzz Aldrin and Gagarin
nothing ventured, nothing won,

just like Major Tom I’m hopin’
ground control can get me home,
even when I lose my way,
spaceship knows which way to go.

One Small Step and One Giant Leap

It has been half a century since the first moon landing.
It was a historical event that was absolutely outstanding.
The Apollo 11 landed on the moon's surface fifty years ago today.
Two astronauts walked on the moon which is over 238,000 miles away.
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were pioneers like Daniel Boone.
On July 20, 1969, Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the moon.
As Armstrong stepped on the moon's surface, he said "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".
When those brave astronauts left the moon to come home, the American flag was something they left behind.
I wasn't alive in 1969 so the moon landing wasn't something that I was able to witness.
But I'm guessing that it was awesome for those who were alive, a wonderful experience.
NASA is an independent agency of the United States Federal Government.
I wish I could've seen the moon landing because it was one hell of an event.

Premium Member Remembering When

I remember when…
Main Street was laid with dark red brick
now it’s laid with black hot asphalt.
The stench alone can make one sick
with environmental assault.

I remember when…
Our radio was our television
we could get broadcasts all around the world.
Letting imagination envision
as the “War of the Worlds” unfurled.

I remember when…
Buzz Aldrin stepped down on the moon
how ecstatic our nation was.
Dancing about on big sand dune
setting communications abuzz.

I remember when…
On my first date, went to drive-in movie
where we viewed the picture “Bonnie and Clyde”.
We really dug it, thought it was groovy
but saddened they were so young when they died.

I remember when…
Schools showed respect for country and to God
with pledge of allegiance and morning prayer.
Today they have spared the punishment rod
and high esteem for beliefs we did share.
