December Magic

December Magic
Waltzing with the wind, in crocheted gowns of white lace… flurries of snowflakes sway to sweet divine music... that only angels can hear.

Race of a Lifetime

He skis down the slopes
of a snow covered mountain
racing against time
and his main adversary...
avalanche in hot pursuit.

Dawning Snow

Clinging unto hope
shining ever virgin white
There shines a beacon
sky alive with virgin snow
Feeling its abandonment

The skies dawn now grey
tiny diamonds do fall
A swan breaks water
the stillness it now is gone
truth behind crystal liquid

Within reflection
virgin snow is now falling
Spilling out snowflakes
Diamonds fall heaven's grace
Snowflakes little drops of Faith

Softly they do fall
On earth they crunch beneath feet
Frozen diamonds
Rainbow's colours shining bright
They shine with heaven's own light

Dreams of love do shine
Kisses fall like drops of snow
Love is virgin white
Covers heart with warmest glow
Love unlike snow never fades

Winter Tale

     Snow falling downwards
Starts to turn city streets white
      Eyes peer from windows
Wide open they see the changes
We have not yet conquered nature

Footprints In The Snow

   Some woodland creature
Passed this way not long ago
   Footprints in the snow
A sign that life still goes on
   In this silent winter world

High winds churl, howling
calling forth their minions
open wide the gates
the battle will be long, fierce!

Early Winter Snow 2

TANKA (American Style)

white powdery flakes
flutter down like fairy wings
early winter snow
softer than a feather's touch
kiss the grass then fade away

(Japanese Style)

downy snowflakes
feathery touches
trace my eyelids brush my lips
fairy kisses on my hair
winter delight

Note: Rules require no punctuation, no title. I am a beginner in writing Haiku and/or Tanka in the Japanese style.

First Frost

Feathered friends flee frost
as first flurries flip and flop.
Floating, flying flock
of fair geese transform fading
fall days in fixed formation.

The Snow is Gone

 The sun rises up
and melts the favored snow sheets
 children's cries burst out
 wishing it wouldn't leave yet
but soon it will come once more

Gripping Roots, Coats Of Snow , THE God Phoenix Rises

flower, god, rain, spring, winter, dance, birth, sunshine,

Birds chirp spring’s sunshine
Rain showers the ground outdoors
Plants begin to grow
Gripping roots draw nourishment
Mother Nature's weathered gifts!

Coats Of Snow © Tanka

Pure white coats stockpile
And cold shouts a freeze
Daylights sunshine glare
Early moonbeam blights a kissing
And dance the night time sky!

In Arabian ash
Half a centuries' time
Beauteous ‘Phoenix’ ashes lay
For five hundred years
Ageing in Arabian soil
Will rise awake sentence-free!

my god! i‘m housebound
another sip of coffee
outside? Imagine
it’s fourteen below zero
I’m tiptoeing through the snow

squirrels are watching me
birds with feathers all fluffed out
barefooted i sink,
touch feet on the icy ground
god no! rather be housebound

in the chilly morn

there is a chirping in the leafless frozen woods, I hold out my hand and cold icy feathers land- there is both a fear and awe. ____________________ March 18, 2013 Tanka Submitted to Contest 261, Eighth Place Submitted to Tanka #2, Andrea Dietrich, Sixth Place

Früher Schnee/ Early Snow/ Temprano nieve

Zu früh gefallen
Der Schnee auf den Bergspitzen
Verhüllt schon das Grün

Der Rauhreif in den Tälern
Bote des frühen Winters

Too early fallen
The snow on the mountain peaks
Already covers the green

The hoar-frost in the valleys
Messenger of early winter

Demasiado temprano caído
Nieve en picos de montañas
Ya cubre el verde

La escarcha en los valles
Mensajero de temprano invierno

On the Edge of a Dream

scent of virgin snow
bathing the night in silence
     my daughter’s footsteps
          echoing on dream’s frayed edge
a yearning heart constricting

I dedicate this to my daughter who is working and living in the UK. Snow scenes always remind me of her and I long to see and hold her again.

Snow White

Snow white Dogwood dots the spring green forest's deep wood petal tips blood red Cold raindrops wash clean pollen Blood drops wash sinners' worse sin
There is a legend of the Dogwood.. It is said that it's wood was used to Crucify Christ.. After that it because the gnarled twisted little tree that it is know as today..The blossom has four petals and each is tipped with a red scarred looking tip for Jesus' head, hands, and feet...The center of the blossoms looks like the crown that was placed upon Jesus' loving brow..

      moisture dons it’s rain cocoon

I dont know about this poem but here it is:

When snow falls softly
You can make some cold snowballs
Try making some snowballs
Snowballs can be delicate
Sometimes they can be quite cold.

Please post with ideas to fix it..

                          Heavenly snowfall,

                  after dark harsh hiemal night,

                   breaths to warmth embrace,

                      youthful lovers led astray,

as cold winter blizzards chill !

Snow After Snow-Shower (Tanka)

Snow after shower,
Still covering the ground
Although hours past
It is vanished from trees and
snow plough have cleared the roads
