instead of haiku

instead of haiku
my heart eclipses mind,
freeing syllables
to praise shoots poking through
the snowmelt—so many !

Random thoughts **50** Haiku--Tanka--Haiku

For Linda Marie's Haiku--Tanka--Haiku contest....

Love for poetry,
savvy. This identity
loves controversy

Football and women,
conversation, love-making.
R & B, Reggae,
inspired meditation,
Four Tops, The Temptations

Taking vacations,
road trips across this nation..
Next stop, the ocean!!!

Random thoughts **49** Haiku--Tanka--Haiku

5,7,5 -- 5,7,5,7,7 -- 5,7,5

Evil brews, no rules,
looming witches ride their brooms,
demon eyed ghouls drool.

Potions have been brewed,
voodoo dolls alter my mood.
Serial killers,
dead become walking dead,
I feel like I'm in "Thriller"

Vampires, Ware-wolves,
Kruger and Micheal Meyers,
stalking to retire..

Haiku About Bats

Haiku, Senryu and Tanka

ocean sounds
I pass a conch
from my ear to hers
monsoon dusk
the flood carrying
my shattered dreams

long rain
the homelessness
reopens the school

holding tight
to the hand of my child--
on the iPad
my mother talks and talks
of returning roles

A House Full of Cats

a house full of cats?
we learn to step carefully
we don’t have nine lives
our kitties are so trusting
lay down right in front of us

“pet me and feed me!”
(this is a silent command)
“and keep litter boxes clean
don’t disturb us while we sleep
always be kind to us pets”

feline loyalty?
“at times we might say that – yes
but don’t count on it”

feline royalty?
“who owns who is the question?
you know the answer”

OCTOBER FOR KIDS (haiku and tanka)

Two Ps in PumPkin
Two BIG Os in OctOber
and apples galore

One October night
Along about All Saint's Day
I heard Satan laugh
T'was in a rural graveyard.......
Or.....was it the old Bijou?

October pig roast
Girls squeal and the fire pit POPS!
Boys have a leaf fight
While Mrs. and I keep warm
After dark the ghosts will come

October hayrack
A friendly kiss in the straw
Horses country road

Autumn mystery
GIANT PUMPKINS come to life
They live at our house

The pool covered o'er
No swimming in October
Beneath the canvas
Crawls the Amityville horror
Or so big brother tells me

SUMMERSEND (combined haiku and tanka)

population - 90 days
blink your eyes and you're through it

something in the wind
that whispered play of old green
then this sudden chill
with arms about my shoulders
sadly thinking summersend

how they toss about
then calm as thoughtful children
clinging clinging summersend

Storm clouds gather over head

Lightening crashing in flashes of golden strikes

Rain falls from the heavens

The sky a black and grey blanket

Angered Gods show their power and might

tanka and haiku

A moment (Tanka)

Rain as wet silk falls
On a rosebush which burnish
Until gray sky smiles.
And there is golden sunlight
On my cottage whitewashed walls.

Stillness of soft rain
Dogs sleep in haylofts and sheds
Dream of hunting boars

a sail on the lake
and the breeze has just come up
how soon it is gone

give a parting kiss
lest your love be lost to you
each last moment new

in your company
I will never be lonely
but should you leave me
the sweet perfume of your skin
will linger linger linger

one and one make two
yet as I think about us
one and one are? … one

dead letters cry out
i’ve lifted the time worn lid
my family box

Haiku and Tanka

Emotions mounting
Thoughts drop from a leaky pen
A world in a drop
Splashed ink on aging parchment
Letters make words make soft sound

My half - revised haiku

Without one, I'm lost
Troublemaker and savior
Mine, sincerely yours
Carrying you day and night,
Rest assured it won't wear out
