Whispering Walls

“Can you feel the soul of an abandoned house, can you hear the whispering”...by Constance La France An old, abandoned house touches the heart its walls whisper of the lives it once held though pillars and stairs now crumbling apart lingering stillness stirs a mystic spell as it yearns for those who long ago dwelled Children's laughter echoes in nursery their toddling drawings still hanging on walls Gone are dinners, dances, lights strung in trees walls sigh with memories, as darkness falls, shivering with cold, the emptiness calls In walls' whispers, I hear their plaintive mourn their loneliness felt in the splintered wood in rose-hued wallpaper faded and torn shells of their dignity, once bold and good their whispers only by wind understood May 25, 2023 for "Writing Challenge - C Quotes" poetry contest by Constance La France howmanysyllables.com=10

"their whispers only by wind understood" It is a touching and soulful poem on all deserted houses. Once they teemed with life. But now only plaintive and mourful whispers arise from them and those whispers are fondly carried away and understood by the wind. Beatiful Anne. Congratulations !

Thanks, Bill from Texas! :) There are lots of those old wooden houses in Texas. I love those stately old homes==so much history there. Silver City, NM has a lot of them, too. So sad to see an abandoned one.

There are so many such deserted houses in our locality ! They all have a story to tell. Once those houses throbbed with life. Now they have only a plaintive moan. Very touching narration, dear Ann.

I feel so sad for an abandoned house. My friends and I found one on a hike, so many years ago. It sat, all alone, sagging into the sand. Its table was still set for two. We felt we were intruding and left it to its loneliness. Thanks for commenting, dear Valsa.

So stirring and poignant, you feel how the house misses its family, and that last line so emotive~

Thanks so much, Michelle. I do love the stately old homes with wrap-around porches and old trees. Part of our past that's fading. Thank you for such nice comments! :)
