The Other Side

Death kissed me on the cheek
and said I could remain
I still had time to keep
but she’d be back again

For death she is a woman
A fickle fearsome foe
There amidst the shadows
Impossible to know

I said “You’re not my lover”
She sneered, “But I’m still death.
One day I’ll come to take you
when you breathe your final breath

“I am not afraid of you.
No I will not hide.
There is another life to live
on the other side.”

Richard, Hello again my friend! Wow, nice work with that dipped quill of ink. Congratulations my friend, deserving as well on POTD. These lines resonate within me. ("I said “You’re not my lover” She sneered, “But I’m still death. One day I’ll come to take you when you breathe your final breath.") Warms Regards, William

Congratulations Richard: Well deserving of POTD. To many - death has no face so perhaps we can bargain more easily with a less threatening persona than the Grim Reaper. Best, SuZ

This is really cool and very entertaining. What an original idea that death is a woman! Usually we se grim reaper as masculine I think! I like the flowing rhyme and especially the positive ending! Congratulations Richard on potd!

Honors for having written today's choice for poem of the day, Rick. Interesting how some give death a gender; in this one she's a fickle, unfeeling woman. Yet, the grim reaper is always male of our species. Open-minded poetry is always worthy.
