Wisdom oft lurks beneath a tattered coat." Caecilus Statius
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As I rest here, watching others pass by I see their tattered life stories through the portal of the eye Through the eye is how you may peer into the soul The vision affirming if one is broken or whole You see, we're all a bit tattered; I find this is true Therefore, understanding this dynamic requires a new point of view To become who we are, our darkest parts we must face For the path to wholeness requires a steep fall from grace In this fall who you were is not to be found As your trauma and conditioning are slowly unwound Your heart is shattered, its pieces on the floor The false you begs for life, to which you say: no more In this darkness, you surrender, giving up your fight You become aware of what you are: divine love and light
We are all tattered in some way and the struggle to become whole is painful. It requires sacrifice and struggle. But in the end we become love and light. That's the moment of fulfillment. Sara, you have written a beautiful poem and Congratulations on your well deserved win. Have been away for two days. So there is much to catch up.
A FAV, my Love and Light being. Beautiful images of the process of facing the reality of living in an illusion and then giving up the useless struggle, only to become authentic. May many follow this path, my Sara. You've done well to share this truth with us. Love and Light, Bill
Tattered and shattered - two most tragic feelings to have, but I like that in the end your poem gives hope that false selves do not win, one does not surrender the fight because divine love and light is there. Good thoughts Sara.
thank you, kind Sotto, for your insights into my poem--one of a 'tattered' journey of inner struggles and discovering one's own love/light and authentic self. As a teenager I briefly became obsessed with perfection--before I became 'tattered.' Her wise words to me were, "Sweetie, we're all perfectly imperfect." Thanks for your visit & have a splendid weekend, your poetess friend in Texas, Sara
