Status Quo Or Change

To always depend on the status quo Doing it the same way we’ll seldom grow Without any change, progress will be slow The experience of growth we’ll not know But if by chance we overcame our fear Made the decision our own ship to steer A voice inside we may begin to hear Our destiny in life may become clear The status quo life is monotonous The newness of change more adventurous There are other ways than how it’s now done We could try our own way, it could be fun We each must choose our own way to live life I hope that your choice diminishes life’s strife

Change is integral part of man. It's what makes life interesting. This powerful piece Bill reminds me of JK Rowlings words in her Harvard commencement address of 2008. Life is meaningless if we live so cautiously that we would not have lived in the first place. This sonnet rings. Stay well Bill. Heman~

We might not have heard this here first "The status quo life is monotonous The newness of change more adventurous" But we cannot contest that we heard it here loud and clear.

Change adds flavor to life ! Statusquo leads to stagnation -"There are other ways than how it’s now done/ We could try our own way, it could be fun" Bill you are absolutely right ! Leave the trodden path and choose a new one. It can be adventurous and more exciting ! Great ideas flow with such ease from your blessed pen, dear Bill

You're so kind to me, Valsa. I struggle with what to share and what to keep to myself more than to put it in poetic form. :-) I'll be back by to catch up some more on some of your poems I've missed while busy. Have a happy day! Bill

That's just deep! I've been bored out of my mind more and more and your poem just kind of puts a spotlight on that especially with the two lines: "the status quo life is monotonous/the newness of change more adventurous" I mean that is the kind of thing a shrink, a good shrink would tell a patient. Then the shrink and the patient would talk about ways to break status quo! I mean it, that's just deep!

your words ring true. In my mind, stagnation and the status quo breed mediocrity. Mediocrity reminds me of the message hidden within the Biblical story of the talents. Aren't we meant to grow, change, and evolve? If we don't are we nothing but distasteful lukewarm water? Then again, some people can't handle leaving the status quo--so conditioned to it I suppose. Thanks for your well written words and message.

Bill, your last stanza reminds me of this excerpt from Invictus “I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.” from William Ernest Henley (1849–1903). Very wise words. Brilliantly expressed my friend. Blessings xxoo
