Smart Phone

To remove all obstacles Street and traffic lights And urban trees from Pavements of busy feet, When the human race Have eyes only for you. Or one could argue When mind and savvy In overdrive Without direction, A foolish reaction When falling over The out stretched leg Of the homeless. © Harry J Horsman 2021

Love this piece Harry. You have cleverly said what us humans are sadly focused on and not the world around us. Love how you lead us to the big picture of your piece. Always impressed by your writes Harry...

it seems humanity wants to keep up with the Jones's, but have they not noticed just down the street some human beings, living under the bridge who have not an inkling of interest in anything other than staying alive another day. Example, we all need a cell phone that is functional in today's technological frenzy driven world, no need however to buy THE BEST, give the money you have saved to the poor, He sees and knows! I so enjoyed this poem Harry, Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Its difficult to see past our narrowed blinders. The world has become so specialized that our narrow vision cannot focus on anything but the space between our eyes and fingertips. It makes it difficult to see the beauty and pain of the rest of the world. A thoughtful write Harry.

Smart phone can surely be an oxymoron! Or the user of such fun, a moron, when absent of periphery. Great write, dear Harry!

Heads buried in smart phone, tripping over more real (but homeless) humans? If the phone is smart, shouldn't humans be smarter instead of slaves to a device? Shalom shalom Sir Harry. Anil

One of the most poignant poems I've ever read. Thank you, Harry, for your insightful thoughts on the need to examine one's commitments.

Yes! Harry! We must also eliate children who are less than 4’ tall and outside their homes, dogs on and off leaches, outdoor cats…Jim adds all metal street signs …hmmm. What say, it would just be easier to jail anyone who doesn’t keep their cell phone in the truck. FYI, I don’ own a cell phone! A poem of great wisdom ;-) xo

love this, sometimes when we are stuck in and watch the people go down the road, 99% are on their phones.

Yes so very true Harry . I have sat and gazed at people glued to the screen . Droves of people trying to walk and literally falling over things …. It’s a sad new reality . I prefer the simpler times ! Hugs to you , Susan :)

so true, harry. The world gone crazy. There is a street out east with holes in the sidewalk and pedestrians were actually falling into the holes by just looking only at their phones. I forget now, but they had to do something about that sidewalk.

I hear you, Harry; it breaks my heart. For sure, Smart Phones do nothing to help move humanity toward a better understanding of God, and man's relationship, responsibilities and greater purpose. I worked for many years with those less fortunate than I -- Volunteered, never taking a paycheck. Another thing I am certain of, throwing money at the problem is only a temporary solution, things soon reverting back to the lowly places they were...and I've had 10,000 conversations...I don't know. Joe.

That is a very meaningful take on this topic, Harry. The phones might be smart, but the users are not always as smart! Time to rearrange our priorities. ~ Best regards and happy new year, my friend. // paul
