A sea of heads stretches out into the distance The vast stage is set with banks of massive speakers Two giant screens will reflect the performers every movement The lights dim and the crowd erupts in ecstasy The drummer begins his rhythmic pulse, which echoes throughout the arena Guitars twang and the vocalist grabs the microphone and belts out the lyrics My body rocks rhythmically – then a ripple shoots across my abdomen Kick, kick, kick, kick, kick It is relentless, with every drum beat my little one kicks in harmony The music stops to rapturous applause and cheering My baby rests too… and I breathe a sigh of relief Then the music starts, the kick, kick, kick, cycle continues It never ceases throughout the whole two-hour concert Finally the music stops and the band leave the stage ENCORE, ENCORE the audience chants… but I want it all to end, I can take no more! The bands dashes back onto stage Once again the crowd erupts with wolf whistling, screaming and cheering Two more tracks and all the lights in the stadium flicker into life The crowd flows out of the arena - a river of happy faces Contest: The Concert Craig Cornish 05~25~15 This is a true account of a rock concert I attended when I was 8 months pregnant – it is not the best gig I ever went to BUT it is the most memorable … and my son grew up to adore rock music!

Certain bands give out a certain Buzz at their concerts. Your poetry has given me a Buzz wishing I would go to more, hugs, James xxxx

I used to live about a mile away form the NEC in Birmingham so went to many concerts as I did when I grew up in Derby - we used to drive to Nottingham - saw some great gigs there too:-) Hugs Jan xx

Jan, this is an amazing story and I really LOVE this one. I think your writing here is really good. you actually did like me, writing a narrative, calling it free verse. hahaha. When he said he hated prose, etc, I was like WHAT? For me, this style works best to talk about a concert and yet for both of us, I don't really consider it free verse!. I hope we both make his list, but wow, he will only have maybe five winners, I don't feel too hopeful!! Yours is so unique with the pregnancy story!

It's 100% true Andrea David kicked the hell out of me from start to finish - we think it was the vibrations from the music :-) I wasn't sure how to classify this so went for free verse - win or lose am happy to have posted it for the contest - it sure will be unique!:-) hugs Jan xx

My hubby got given some tickets through his work and it was an artist he really liked so we went - at least I could sit down in the arena - it was the most surreal experience with my son kicking the whole concert - now he loves rock music and plays guitar lol:-) hugs Jan xx

Thanks Kim - the actual best gig I ever went to was Queen headlining at Knebworth in 1986 - 140,000 people - it was incredible - but this gig as described was so memorable - we think it was the vibration noise of the drum that causes the reaction but it was so intense I was exhausted b the end of the gig and couldn't wait for it to end:-( hugs jan xx
