Picture Story
The knock upon my door was sharp
I found to my surprise
a big raccoon was standing there
with fury in his eyes.
He handed his burden to me
and left without a word.
Had we had a common language
this is what I might have heard.
Please keep your roaming cat at home.
He’s leading my kids astray.
I’m teaching them to search for food.
He’s taking them off to play.
A raccoon doesn’t have a choice
he must scrounge for all he gets.
He will never have the pampered life
that is offered to your house pets.
So kitty stays inside glass door
watching as raccoon family eats
the piles of food I leave for them.
He’s glad to share his treats.
