Ophelia: the Evergreen Heroine of Shakespearean Tragedy

The quintessential of nyctophilia, wrapped in bridal attire, slowly and slowly as in somnambulism there goes the heroine of timeless tragedy to supersede her lovers feigned insanity. Her beloved father is no more, being killed by her suitor's intrigued tyranny; ignored to be drowned, to burn in the flame of plotted felony. Jilted, to be startled by the selcouth performance of her handsome wooer's vile strategy; there goes the most beautiful heroine ever to be the victim of fated irony, immersed in senseless lunacy, to vanish from the sight of Hamlet's fatalistic eyes to bid adieu to the agony, slowly and slowly to be disappeared into melancholic darkness from the dazzling maniac opaque sight; there goes the Danish heroine of evergreen tragedy.

I love this poem and know the story very well - we were assigned 'HAMLET' in my Matric year at the Convent in the then Rhodesia. I have written a poem 'To be or not to be' Hamlets quote from Hamlet written by Shakespeare, if you wish to read it. Your heading so apt, Ophelia was certainly the heroine of tragedy. Well penned Silpika. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

The whole of Hamlet comes into my mind ! You have captured the sad fate of Ophelia in an awesome way. Hamlet, I feel is the best of Shakesperean tragedies and Ophelia's fate is synonymous with the fate of many a naive girl....! Well done Silpika!

Ophelia is by far the most pathetic personage in the play Hamlet. She loved Hamlet so much but knew he was hell bent on revenge and thus fell into melancholy insanity. You did well.

Yet the most enchanting, despite the vengeful attitude of the hero, for her gorgeous presence and timeless appeal.. Thanks Victor for the detailed review.
