Night Visitor

The sky, clear with a brilliant full moon And a wind sprang up from nowhere, pouncing on and howling about the house, as she lay in bed, and stared at the square space of the window, waiting for what was taking place. She knew if she got out of bed and hastened a quick peek, he might somehow know, and that might cause him to leave. Over the sound of the wind, she heard footsteps on the rooftop, of tiny little feet! He was coming, he was coming! She stared and her heart thudded! And she lay still for a moment. Then suddenly sat up and hollered "He's here! He's here!" Her husband groaned.."Huh...wha? Who's here?" But it was suddenly daylight now, it was morning and she was awake, and the image stayed for just a moment and then it was gone, and she remembered she was all grown up! Darn

Oh I love it. Some of us will never grow up when it comes to Christmas. I have a party I'm giving tomorrow night and everyone is snowed in. It may be a party of one. Thank you for your comments on my Susie poem. She too was a golden Lab. They are the sweetest dogs in the world. She died just ten days ago. I miss her so much. Thank you for your kind remarks about my poetry and Susie thanks you too. Love, Joyce

I still believe. We should always hold onto our dreams. I liked this. I remember a scene in "The Miracle on 34th Street" when the lawyer defending Santa talked about the intangibles being important. I still watch it every year and the Alistair Sim "A Christmas Carol." God Bless and a very Merry Christmas." Vince

If you like Kooser you'll like Richard Wilbur, another two-time Pulitzer winner, mostly a rhyme, with some excellent pieces... K. Some work in progress! You're already there...

Perfect title! '...pouncing on and howling,' ...a super phrase with marvelous assonance. Reminiscent of the poetry of Ted Kooser. Check him out... you'll love him! Best wishes, Keith

Hello Carrie... this is a beautifully warm poem.... it reminds me of my uncle who even at the age of seventy swore that when he was a young boy he had seen Father Christmas and his slay and reindeer on the roof of a house .... he told us the same story ever year... he even told me it when I turned 25....

I agree. Darn. But atleast we can still dream! A lovely yuletide write. Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I know in my heart that the things that have come to me in this life have to be for a reason. In time I know that God will reveal his purpose and lead me to where He wants me to go. Love Robin

What a wonderful poem! I once saw Santa in my room (I was 5) and I remember covering up my head with the blanket so he'd think I was asleep. Silly idea, but that's what I did! I also once saw Rudolph's nose blinking in the sky, although my son now tells me that it must have been an airplane. lol The last few weeks I've been hearing tiny little feet on the roof as you describe here, but *sigh*, it's only the ceiling squirrels. My husband really needs to block them out of the attic. ~Juliane

Carrie this is just to precious - I 4recently heard someone say I believe on a movie - No it was these elderly men on the news for playing baseball up into their seventies any way he said, "We don't stop playing because we get old - We get old because we stop playing" - I think thats how it went but it sure made a lot of sense to me - In fact it gave me a whole new outlook regarding my Physical Therapy - Great poem Carrie - God Bless, MJ
