Mom, I Still Remember

In the coffin lay your body silent and still As with wax, sealed were your eyes Bared of all passion, pain and strain You were at rest, tranquil was your face When your body was lowered into the grave Tears trickled from our eyes like streams of blood We stood orphaned beside the newly dug up pit Knowing quite well that the days of glory have fled! When you left, leaving in us a contused wound We hoped time would heal the gash quite soon But with every passing day you’re sorely missed Especially when our life goes out of tune At times when I feel lonesome with none to care In weariness I search you among the stars of the sky When my heart twitches with an unknown pain To your comforting presence, my mind does fly Sometimes I envision you coming into my room Smiling that sweet smile in the dead of the night But soon I realize it is only a fleeting vision And from my sight, you vanish like an ethereal sprite Rambling through the avenues of vanished years We remember your sweet assurance, tender care n’ love But never will we have the joy of having them again For you flew into the horizon like a gentle dove Mom, your presence my tiny world once filled With that old bygone past how I was content A treasure of sweet memories still I do hold Now your eternal absence, how deeply I lament Oh Mother, though you are dead and gone Our love for you is inscribed deep in our hearts Which nothing can erase or erode and will last Until finally life from our body silently departs! _________________________________________________ April.27.2022 Re entered for Loved and Lost Poetry Contest Sponsor - Regina McIntosh ~Placed First~ A Mother’s Love, Tribute of Love for Mother’s Day Poetry Contest Sponsor – B. Valsa, It's the wee hours of the morning and I am unable to sleep so I am reading some of your beautiful poems. I tripped across this one and my heart turned inside out. Your memories of your Mother are so similar to the love I had for my own Mother. I guess we were both blessed with such wonderful women. My Mother has been gone 50 plus years now but your wonderful memories brought my Mother right back in my heart where she belongs. Thank you, Poetry hugs.

This comment from you, I treasure most ! I know these words have come out from the deep core of your heart ! Yes, every line of this poem streamed out from me without any pause or break.. so intense has been my feelings when I took my pen and sat down to write my thoughts of my mother.... on one of her death anniversaries. All my pent up feelings of sorrow just came out in the form of a poem. Glad this reminded you of your dear mother. So thankful to you for the wonderful feelings expressed and the words of appreciation lavished, dear poet friend..the Word Artist!

Hi sweet friend, You made my eyes well with tears. I must thank you for the wonderful opportunity you gave to express my warm feelings for my mother . She lived a fairly long life. I lost her only in 2006. Still a mother's loss is a deep loss ever. Thank you for the sweet words spoken of me. I am a poet of average abilities. Your words show how great you are ! Here I see more of your magnanimity than my own great ability! Thank you so much ! Obliged to you much .....

How beautiful and sincere and loving is this awesome tribute to your mother. She knows you wrote it, and i'm almost certain you feel her presence in spirit at times, as I smell the tobacco of my fathers pipe. Blessings and hugs. Jennifer.
