Congratulations! I did not know this was a rose when I ran to see about Mr. Lincoln. You have taught me something new and I am delighted.

Pres. Lincoln deserved to have such a beautiful rose named after him. I believe it is a hybrid but it has been around many years. Ours has been neglected since my husband died yet it keeps on blooming. Thank you Caren. Blessings xxoo

I see you fixed line one now, dear but you got placed because you kept it under 31 syllables total, which is ok with modern tanka. I learned something new today too about this type of flower. The message this entails is so sentimental and sweet. Congrats.

MISTER LINCOLN is a hybrid tea rose. Parents are Rosa ‘Chrysler Imperial’ x Rosa ‘Charles Mallerin’. (Swim & Weeks, 1964.) I used to have Chrysler Imperial. Another favorite rose of mine is a beautiful rose with a lavender bloom called Angel Face. Thank you Robert. Blessings xxoo

Thank you very much Joe. Roses last so much longer when I cut them and bring them inside. I give them a little vortex water and they last twice as long. Blessings xxoo

Well, thank you very much Vie. My husband always bought me roses, but I told him I was happy with the roses he was growing in our garden. He liked the long stemmed roses. Mister Lincoln does have long stems. I guess he felt more is better. Thank you very much. Blessings xxoo

Connie, this is so wonderfully enchanting - enchanting as the fragrance of Mr. Lincoln! My grandmother introduced me to Mr. Lincoln. I had it in my garden for years and just recently it died. Was just headed out the door to replace it when I saw your elegant tribute to this magnificent rose. Great minds strike again dear friend. Thank you for choosing this beautiful rose as the theme for your entry! Here's to roses that speak of love. Blessings. Best wishes for the contest! Happy Valentine's Day. Aloha!

Found a new Mr. Lincoln! Yeah! He is, at the moment, gracing my potting bench waiting to be planted this weekend! In the drought have lost three roses :( Now that I have a new Mr. Lincoln am down to replacing two more! So much fun to find a kindred gardening, rose loving spirit! Many blessings and prayers dear friend!

Wow now that is a real serendipitous moment isn’t it Sam? They say there are no coincidences. I am so glad you too appreciate Mr. Lincoln the rose that is in my poem as well. Thank you my kindred spirit friend. I hope you find another Mr. Lincoln . Aloha Connie xxoo

My late wife, her mother, her grandmother, my daughter, and granddaughter, all love roses but I've never fancied thorns, so they always received carnations from me, which are much more fragrant. But your rose bush is certainly hanging in there! Aloha!

The wonderful thing about Mr. Lincoln is it has very few thorns and they are easy to clip off. I clip them off before I even bring them in the house. My Mr. Lincoln rose is very fragrant which is another reason I love it so much. I love carnations too because they last a very long time. Thank you Rico. Aloha xxoo

Keepsake memories, Connie. No better ode to love than the bright red rose, especially planted by a beloved. I know you cherish them both. May he RIP. May the rose bloom forever. My thoughts reach out to you my friend.

Thank you Victor. It is the most hearty rose I have ever had. It will give me a long stemmed red velvety rose that lasts over a week before it wilts and dies. I hope you find joy this Valentine’s Day. Your comment has given that to me. Blessings xxoo

My sweet husband planted it when we moved here over thirty years ago. We were together forty years until he died in July of 2020. It cracked and fell over from the weather but it is still blooming beautiful roses. Thank you Valsa. Blessings xxoo
