Sand dunes, nothing but sand dunes, Some large, some small. And the sun burning over the terrain. No oasis, not even a mirage of one. The last drop would not quench the thirst He felt it in his soul. For now She was dead and buried And his soul was barren like the desert. He would die, lost among the dunes With no water for survival. Fool. He could make it. He was like an eagle. Searching to drink water. Yet he was no eagle and soon fell Sand clinging to his face covered with sweat. Opening his eyes he saw the viper. All would be lost now. A swish as a hawk picked the viper away. He fainted and opened his eyes in a tent. He was safe except for his silent sad soul.

Lost in the desert can be a powerful metaphor for someone who is suffering from loneliness and with no traces of hope left to keep him alive! In the end, at least someone came to rescue but his disheartened soul will take time to finally come out of the grief which he experienced.. Sigh, this is such an aching poem and I can deeply resonate with the emotions infused here.. You've an artistic way of describing things that really captivates the reader.. Loved reading this, very heartfelt..

Your storytelling is incredibly moving, Victor. It evokes a sense of both awe and terror as we imagine the intense gaze upon the vast expanse of scorching sand, devoid of any relief in the form of water, while the looming presence of death lurks ominously nearby. Blessings

Life does sometimes seem like a dream...may we make our sleep one of loving miracles, a good hawk carrying away all our vipers. Interesting write to say the least. Something deep to think about.

Safe except for his silent sad soul, cuts deep into the psyche Victor, a metaphorically powerful poem, with lots of scope for the reader to dig deeper into the depths of those sand dunes, excellent as always, cheers David

Another great story, my friend. Our life without our loved one could feel like a desert of emptiness, but we try to survive. God bless you.

a powerful poem, Victor. Using the desert as a backdrop was brilliant! I loved the line, "No oasis, not even a mirage of one." I suppose we all at one time or another find ourselves in the desert of our lives with no oasis in sight." Am faving this one, Sara

Perhaps the hawk was she, and the viper was he...and they soared together for hours, until...she gracefully flew him back and softly dropped him on the pillow of his shelter...just a thought. Great write, Victor!

Her loss left his soul with an unquenchable thirst. Even when he is saved he still feels this loss. This is beautifully sad and so touching Victor.

Touching story telling, dear Victor. ! How fierce it is to stare into the endless stretch of burning sand without even a drop of water to drink and death prowling near. Thank God he was miraculously saved.

Except for his silent sad soul! Brilliant how you’ve described the pain and loss here and how you’ve written in a very creative manner. I felt the emotions as well as loving the way you’ve written this so poetically. “ No oasis, not even a mirage of one. The last drop would not quench the thirst“ beautiful! Deep! A very poignant and heartfelt poem this is. Grief! Never easy. The rhythm of this poem makes this a fave for me
