A red sun pooling like a drop of blood,
coagulates at the edge of darkness.
And the night swallows shadows in a flood
black as pitch, within a seamless starkness.
A gilded moon, a pitted golden coin,
gleams in the sky like a beacon of light.
And like flashing fireflies, twinkling stars join
quasars and pulsars as sparks in the night.
Dawn frets like a nervous actor offstage,
eager to outperform the rising sun.
And like a gentle breeze rippling the page
morning shimmers like a web freshly spun.
Sol rises up as a scarlet balloon,
afloat on the air like a songbird's tune.
