A Better Tomorrow

Skies star-crossed over treacherous weather Divided voices splintered in turmoil Hope dissolved along with burning heather across four score and twenty summers’ soil Yet, I have seen redemption in the street Those in hunger offer their meager bread Greenery brought to deserts of concrete Contentions cooled by kinder words, instead Hearts pump in every color, joining tasks Over graffiti, painted flowers grow Arthritic fingers, unasked, sewing masks As waters to better tomorrows flow Lifted by hands of greater grace recall When fences fall, humanity stands tall 9/05/20

"When fences fall, humanity stands tall." No one can argue with that, Michelle. I hope we can all find a way to co-exist with each other. Nice sonnet, but meter is a bit off. Enjoyed! Congrats on your place in the contest. Best wishes, Carolyn

This is an excellent summation of the good in humanity when most of what we see is the bad. Very nice. Congratulations on the well-deserved win Michelle! Linda

Phenomenal writing and an uplifting message of coming together and breaking down fences. Loved the phrases "deserts of concrete", "hearts pump in every color", and "lifted by hands of greater grace". Your heart of humanity really shines brightly in this. Your voice speaks artistically and clearly. May the world truly be soothed by kinder words, as you propose. All my best wishes in the contest, I sense a winner. A fave.

Michelle, your sonnet is utter inspiration. There's so many heart-warming images. Feels like 28 lines worth! I like how you 'turned' it at line five, the mask mention, the garden over graffiti (I know these are two things and listed as such in your sonnet) It's magnificent work. You surely are thrilled with writing such an uplifting sonnet.
