Jeff Kyser is a retired software developer who lives with his wife Frances right ‘round the bend in rural Lacey’s Spring, Alabama. A late comer to the world of poetry, he has been writing contemplative and whimsical pieces on family, on redemption, and on faith for the last several years. His eight grandchildren are the source for much of his inspiration, fueling a desire to spur their imagination and to share his life’s journey with them.

Rousing Rondine Poetry Contest is Open

Try your hand at a Rondine, a 12-line poem that uses a refrain, a specific rhyme scheme, and a desired syllable count.

See the details in the contest description. This is the format that will be judged against.

I have written a few, also linked there, and I think it is an interesting form. Use the refrain in different ways, or use the two stanzas to tease out different perspectives, or do something else!

new poems, list contest, date, and sponsor at bottom, no names or obviously identifying info, please.

I'm going to write some of them, Jeff, to practice, then probably select one I think you'll enjoy. I wrote one today I like. It's a bit tricky, but not impossible!

Yes, this one seems fairly approachable. Some of the forms I've run across recently just leave me scratching my head. More like a word puzzle, which I enjoy, but a different sort of activity than penning a nice, flowing thought...

Jeff, thank you so much for the contest using this interesting form. I am looking to inspiring my MUSE and pen a beauty for my poetry collection. And win or lose it is a wonderful writing challenge, blessings Constance
