Next Contest Preview

I just read a wonderful poem today by Donna Hilbert that will be the basis for my next contest and I am excited to share it with all of you. It's called "A Button Poem" and was published in her book, Travelers in Paradise: new and selected poems PEARL Editions, 2004. Enjoy!

A Button Poem

Order
In this cut glass relish tray
where my grandmother once laid
circles and slices of pickles
and beets, I now arrange
bags full of buttons
bought at the swap meet.
What would she make of me—
idle pursuer of order and beauty—
sorting by color, shape and size
castaway remnants
of other people’s lives?
