Happy Valentine's Day!

She signed each card
to every friend
Saving the best
til the very end
The boy she liked
more than any other
With hugs and kisses
she'd surely smother
A smile she wore
all through the day
For the valentine
was on it's way
The time then came
to pass them out
He'd like hers best
there was no doubt
Biting her lip
as he opened the card
She studied his face
so very hard
He smiled the smile
of a little sly fox
And he placed the card
back in the box
She shuffled through hers
and looked for his name
Over and over
it was the same
There was nothing
he left her out
Hanging her head
she started to pout
Then on her shoulder
she felt a peck
He put a necklace
around her neck
Said,"I tried and tried
so very hard
But couldn't find you
the perfect card
I passed the jewelry
with an empty cart
And it was then
I found this heart
It's the perfect
symbol you see
For I'm meant for you
and you for me

Valentine's Day is not my favorite time of year, but I decided to try and not be such a sour puss about it this year.
Well, as I was known as the ugly duckling in school, I did save that perfect card for the boy I liked most, only to get nothing in return.  Sometimes, he would feel a little bad and tell me he just ran out of cards.  Well, though I knew better, I forced a smile and told him it was okay.  I decided to take that experience and turn it around and there it is. LOL
