Good question, DD. Afterall, George Sand (born Armandine Aurore Lucille Dupin) comes to mind. Samuel Langhorne Clemens, best known by his pen name Mark Twain, is another example. Why does PS insist on 'legal name'?

You can use a pen name if you’ve published a book previously under that name.
