Friend Builder: Encourage Poets and Build New Friendships

PoetrySoup has a new page called Friend Builder!

Whether you are new to PoetrySoup or a long-timer, all of us want friends and need encouragement. This new page will help you build new relationships on PoetrySoup, receive comments, and encourage other poets. Even if a poem is not your style, you can find something encouraging or appropriate to write.

This page is designed to encourage new PoetrySoup members who have not received a lot of comments. It ensures that new poets do not get lost in the ever-growing PoetrySoup community.

The new page lives in the left navigation under "Soup Social".

Good Morning Team PoetrySoup. This is a marvelous feature. It is user/reviewer friendly. It is easy to execute and saves wear and tear on the hands. In short this is a wonderful addition. I will turn to that link once again. Enjoy the day and thank you for what you do for us members.

I really liked the idea of this page! how can I get my poem on the friend builder page? I'm new to poetrysoup.

There's nothing you can do personally to get your poem to display on that page. Our system picks random poems based on a certain criteria.

Great addition to the site and the perfect way to bring new readers into the group and make them feel welcome. I just commented on three and will try to make it a daily habit to visit this page.

(((a very good poet friend mentioned the feature earlier this morning))) out of curiosity, I logged on and read and left comments on 3 pages (even the Spanish poems) I think the new feature is awesome. It's almost like Speed Dating (not that I've ever tried speed dating:-) ... I'm looking forward to using this feature as soon as my health is back to normal. Take Care ... Poet Destroyer

Team Poetry Soup. I just had fun doing this and I think it is a great idea. I like it because I can comment faster than just just going one by one. Often my kindle freezes up, so I don't have enough time to make as many comments as I would like. It is lovely to meet new talented members. I do wish there would be a fave button connected to each poem so a favorite could be ticked at the same time. It would make it easier. Thank you very much for this newest feature. Aloha, Connie

Anyways, this may work for some. I didn't like being directed to post a certain amount of comments. It's rather too authoritarian for me. I would have commented 'there' if given the freedom to comment on 1 or 2 poems. It rather feels like being told "one more push-up." I'm guessing a few soupers would agree with me. PS.. this format would be nice for the "following" page, easier to leave comments. And the random selection of poems from our favourite poets would be nice, too.

I just clicked and clicked and clicked on the page. I saw some Spanish poetry, but not the Urdu and Hindi (I think) or it may have been Tamil. Will the page be inclusive? I am surprised to see that the oddness I'd seen several months back is gone. No things like "Blah" that is it, as a poem.

How are they selected? The poems? Random from new members? Every new members first poem? If a new member leaves this "sss lfj ala llsaj" as a first poem will it show up like that on this page? That will be interesting..

Well, its good that poems will get more attention. Encouragement, warmth, friendship is needed on Soup. Timing is everything.

I guess this will help the unofficial welcome wagon, some who have worked tirelessly for years... oh wait a minute... they left soup. They'd warmly encouraged new members but received little thanks or encouragement for doing so. Like PD, Like Skat... so I guess we need this now because they no longer do it? About right?
