New Feature

OK, ok, we heard you. :-) We've added a new feature that allows the poet to delete coments on their posts! However, we are testing this feature on blogs before we roll it out to poems.

This is a great way to control "off-topic" or just plain rude comments.

If you are a Premium Member, you can now use this feature on your blogs. You do not have to turn off commenting, you can just delete the "off-topic" comments. Become a Premium Member today!

AdBlocker Blocker

Oh, we've disabled the AdBlocker blocker for now. That is until we give the ability to control ads to Lifetime Premium members. However, we would prefer you not use ad blockers on poetrysoup. Here is how to disable ad blockers on PoetrySoup. Please "whitelist" PoetrySoup. Thanks for doing this.

PoetrySoup. We advertise your site to people every day. Many are old and techncally challenged... They won't know how to use the addblocker, to turn it off. What are you going to do to the guests we invite? Throwing up your addblocker message will be very un-inviting. Rude... actually.

I rarely feel a need to block people though many years ago a man said a horrible thing to me at my blog, so I suppose when something vulgar is said, it would come in super handy!! Thanks for whatever you did with the Ad blocker thing for today too. Also I think I know how to use it now. Someone at work showed me.

Why are we seeing advertising in the middle of the page. I do not have a smartphone to take a snapshot just an old computer... Right now I'm seen a picture of a pooch looking at me asking me to share photos with family and friends. Sign up facebook. I also had advertising on the side of my contest screen which made it difficult to judge .

Eve, I Hope they can fix the things that disrupt our ability to do these kinds of functions you mention like being able to respond to someone or judge a contest.

I like the idea of being able to edit a reply..sometimes there are typos..

Constance, on your own blogs you will now see a little delete control button on both comments and replies. You can delete any comment/reply that you do not want on your own blog. In the outbox area, we can now delete or edit (yay!) our own replies, too (not just comments.)

TPS, ON the topic of new features/delete abilities/comments... did you JUST enable our ability to edit or delete REPLIES? I like this. So instead of just deleting a comment or reply FOR a Souper, its possible (depending on what someone considers being a good moderator, which to me, includes giving a commentator a CHOICE) to request that a REPLY be deleted instead of just erasing the comment/reply. I find the slap-dash approach tyrannical and rather low brow. Me no likey comment, ugh. Me delete, ugh. But to give a CHOICE..that, to me, is a better way of addressing conflicts. Though, still a bit ... uptight/restrictive/constipated... at least it gives some self-governance to EACH Souper.

I like this, Becca, for racist/homophobic/sexist/extremely hateful comments or replies...but -- for me -- I will still FIRST request that the offender remove the comment/reply him/herself... no matter how rude or inappropriate. I do like there is CHOICE.

The person who wrote the blog has the ability to delete a comment that they deem offensive or inflammatory, if they choose to.

Wait a minute. I just realized something. Does that mean you can also have the freedom to delete your own replies now from any blog? This may also give some who wish they hadn't gone down a certain road to SELF-CENSOR! If you say yes, then I change my 'meh' to an "ALRIGHT!" YES???

@Craig. I love humans. I can't relate to Vulcans as a William Shatner Wannabe, so I could use that Oopsy daisy for myself as well. Though it's my tendency to just hug and kiss too much or start sprouting off free verse lecturing when I shouldn't. This darn red blood I have!

Well, it would help in 'self-moderation' :DDD Which to me (sorry TPS) makes a lot more sense than a return to the GONG SHOW. Something to think about, maybe?

Okay, now I see it. A PM can remove whatever comments or replies they want from a blog (ORRRRR a souper can also REQUEST that one of THEIR comments is removed by the blog host) but we are still unable to remove a reply, ourselves.

Hopefully it will be used with grace. I know I might use it sometimes, not to stop a naturally progressing conversation, but because I can sometimes I can tell that someone is trying to agitate someone else with a comment lol Thanks TPS!

My only other concern is that this feature is that it may lead to a "country club" atmosphere, right? This blog is only for _________ (insert something selective here, PM's, a certain colour of skin, a certain belief... hopefully, it will only be used against UNFRIENDLY FIRE, not snubbing.

Maybe others will get use out of this. Since I do not make those demands on those who visit my blogs and even encourage random discussions (cause if you're one minute talking about line breaks and the next talking about a journal you found and then it goes from that to a talk about modern sonnets, all is good, in my books. Why stop a conversation from progressing naturally?) I will wait to see how this new 'feature' plays out, and whether people will use it with grace and only when necessary or with a kind of off-with-her/his-head eagerness that would go right against the feature's true purpose. This comment is very on topic, though most will not agree with me. I am assuming that is okay.
