About John Anderson
(Click for Poet Info...)

I was born under the star sign 'Pisces' and as the saying goes "You can't get over that". I have life-long interests in water, fish, the sea, sailing and everything wet and aquatic. I have a scientific background in the environment and fisheries. I have written extensively on many topics. I have created and manage a gaggle of websites. I have now retired and live in the 'Shark Shack' by the sea near Jervis Bay, on the South Eastern coast of Australia. I sail, fish, walk, dive and swim as much as I can with the motto: 'Diving for Pearls'. My main focus is on didactic poems. I love the poems of Dylan Thomas and my favorite movie is 'Under Milk Wood' (a radio play, made into a film). I also like Les Murray. My website is Poetry Community http://www.poetrycommunity.com.  Cheers!

Type of Poems - link deleted from the menu

Blog Posted by John Anderson: 9/16/2024 8:55:00 PM

Hi, have you noticed that the Type of Poem link has been deleted from the menu at the top of the page. I contacted management and was informed that this was deliberate. The link is still available, but only indirectly. I think this is a very backwards step. What do you think?

My thanks TPS, to your quick response and on behalf of those soupers and those potentials find American Engish as a physical deficiency--restoration positive. Of the two notices I sent you yesterday, besides John's blog, re Tearassoncenet and your light on the subject re Poitry & Abracadabra is before my publisher, and lastly, my reopened YouTube library of self created videos of my poem and not of the teaching variety, mayhaps persuade TPS to create a link in the member's homepage for writers who may want to further their talents by creating their own YouTube videos, if not done so already.

The people have spoken. We’ll see if we can make more room for it without creating a 3rd menu row.

The branch could be via links on an opening page e.g. Famous Poets & Poems - + text ... link 1 => Famous Poets link 2 => Famous Poems .... New Poems - + text ... link 1 => New Poems Posted Today link 2 => Poem of the Day, Week, Month

Unfortunately, drop downs are not an option.

Thanks! A couple of suggestions to make room, which may require sub-headings (not removal): [Submit Poems] => Submit. [Famous Poems Famous Poets] => Famous Poets & Poems; [Poem of the Day New Poems] => New Poems (with subheadings)

You can find the link on the "Poems" page or just search "Type of Poems." :-)

This link was important to all members and including new writers, why not put it in the Resources section on the left side for easy access, Constance

Yes, but why was it removed from the menu? This was a very bad decision as it's a major essential resource for a poetry website. Many people need to access it all the time and now it's hidden away where no one can find it. Why Oh Why?

Yes, John. I noticed, too. I am sorry for its demise.

It appears that "Type of Poems" has been replaced by "Videos' in the menu - lazily not adding an extra one!

You can also choose "Poems" at the top menu, and "Popular Types of Poems" will then be listed. This is not the same as before, however. Thank you, John, for pointing this out.

Yes, Mark that works great, thanks so much for finding that. Constance

That is a blow, especially for the new poets. Maybe it was taken down for 'maintenance', eg only list poetry forms, and have a selection for poetry devices ...

In the search at the top, put PoetrySoup Types of Poems and it will come up just scroll down a bit (I bookmarked the page for easy access) but I agree with you totally, it should have been left at the top, cannot understand the reasoning for removing it as we all use it for reference, I will send PS a email, Constance

Thank you Constance. I noticed its absence, too. I actually used it frequently, especially as a newcomer, and also, in researching for contests. Glad for the tips from you and Suzette and Mark.

Thank you for this tip, Constance. Typng Types of Poems works just as well.

This is a real loss. The 'Type of Poem' item was the go to place for me for information and always directed poets to it who are beginners or looking for help on writing poems. I think it is the loss of an advertising opportunity.
