I was born under the star sign 'Pisces' and as the saying goes "You can't get over that". I have life-long interests in water, fish, the sea, sailing and everything wet and aquatic. I have a scientific background in the environment and fisheries. I have written extensively on many topics. I have created and manage a gaggle of websites. I have now retired and live in the 'Shark Shack' by the sea near Jervis Bay, on the South Eastern coast of Australia. I sail, fish, walk, dive and swim as much as I can with the motto: 'Diving for Pearls'. My main focus is on didactic poems. I love the poems of Dylan Thomas and my favorite movie is 'Under Milk Wood' (a radio play, made into a film). I also like Les Murray. My website is Poetry Community http://www.poetrycommunity.com.  Cheers!

Let There Be Voice Contest Finalized

Blog Posted by John Anderson: 8/26/2023 10:28:00 AM

The 'Let There be Voice' contest has been finalized. There were many outstanding entries making the choice of the placegetters very difficult. There was a mixture of self-recordings and 'Text to Speech' tools. The quality of the Audio of the Poem was not used in placing the poems, which were judged on my opinions concerning the merits of the written poems. I hope that this contest has kindled an interest in poets adding Audio to their poems. This adds an extra dimension which most readers enjoy. There are a couple of points for making the audio. The 'Text to Speech' tools allow variations in speed and the voice itself. A moderate speed around 80% or so seems to work best. The default speed is too fast in my opinion. You can play with the poem's layout and punctuation within the tool itself to make a better and clearer presentation. As always, best of all is the poet reciting their own poem!! Thanks again to everyone who entered the contest. Best Wishes and Cheers.

Thanks so much for including me on your list since I rarely record myself and so I had to enter an oldie that my students had helped me to figure out how to do it. Congrats to all the winners
