When I'M An Old Lady

WHEN I’M AN OLD LADY (many happy returns)

When I’m an old lady, I’ll live with my son,
To look after his mum is sure to be fun,
The joy it brings him, will thrill him to find,
He is able to share his home and be kind.

Of course I‘ll expect to live there rent free,
The same as he did when living with me.
I’ll raid the fridge, leave a mess of ice-cream,
Sneaking his chocolate, Cadbury’s white Dream.

I’ll go out with friends and party till morning,
Only come home when a new day is dawning.
After showering, I’ll leave clothes on the floor,
No one will see them, behind the closed door.

If sometimes I’m told to tidy my room,
Pick up my clothes and try using a broom,
I’ll hide everything, way under the bed,
After that effort, play loud music instead.

Whenever my friends come home with me,
I’ll suggest they all stay and have tea;
My son’s wife won’t mind, may give me a look,
I’ll prime them to tell her she’s a great cook.

His car I will use on Saturday and Sunday,
I’m sure he won’t mind, he can use it on Monday.
Not bothering to buy any petrol you see,
I’m always broke he has more money than me.

If I need extra dollars, I’ll borrow from my son,
Knowing he loves helping his kind loving mum.
I’ll forget to return it, may only be about twenty,
I doubt he would miss it, I know he has plenty.

I’ll hog the TV, by hiding the remote,
Then watch all my soapies, and silently gloat.
My son thinks he’s much smarter than me,
But I’ve been around a lot longer than he!

When I feel tired and fall asleep in my chair,
With mouth opened wide, and tussled grey hair,
I’m sure he’ll look at me with eyes almost weeping,
Thinking how peaceful it is when I’m sleeping.

…when I’m an old lady and live with my son.

Four Seasons

FOUR SEASONS

Seasons come and seasons go,
Each reveal a different show.
Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring,
Nature's way of change to bring.

Summer months will roll on by,
With little rain the ground is dry.
Hot days do not always please,
How welcome is a cooling breeze.

Autumn lays a carpet down,
Yellow, orange, red and brown.
Leaves twirl softly from the trees,
Like butterflies, they dance with ease.

Winter rains fall to and fro,
On the mountains there is snow
Dark night skies can be a wonder,
When lightning joins with claps of thunder.

Nourished by a spring-time shower,
Scented roses start to flower.
Daffodils raise their golden heads
To brighten up the garden beds.

Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring,
Nature's way of change to bring.

Budgie

BUDGIE
I have a little budgie, his colour is white and blue,
I am teaching him to talk, so far his words are few.
He sits upon my finger, and lets me stroke his chest,
While telling him he’s a pretty boy, and he is best.

One day when he was playing, with a little toy,
I clearly heard him say “pretty boy, pretty boy”.
His vocabulary increased quite dramatically,
Picking up many words when he listened to TV.

“Prices are down, prices are down”, mimicked ads all day,
At times he’d drive me crazy, was tempted to give him away.
Perhaps another budgie was needed with him to sit,
To help quieten him down, but he nearly had a fit!

“Buy one, buy one, then get the second one free”,
On and on he went all day, was very annoying to me
I covered his cage at night, to stop all his loud chatter.
But he kept going on and on, the darkness didn’t matter.

Now I'm glad I kept him, and would like to tell you why,
Because he's passed an audition, for TV ads to try.
He’s become a TV star, which means my days are free,
Others can hear him daily, which really pleases me.

But I've come to realize television was not a good choice.
Being a star's worn him out and he's almost lost his voice
He's become much quieter, doesn't talk as he did before,
I miss his happy chatter, and wont be complaining anymore.

I tell him he's a pretty boy while gently stroking his chest
His days of stardom are over, but he's still the very best.
Now we are great friends, my pretty budgie and me,
And never again will he ever, be appearing on TV.

A Peaceful Army

A PEACEFUL ARMY

Special soldiers went to war
Some being not so young.
Enlisted to do their duty,
But would never fire a gun.

They wore a different uniform,
Which displayed a red shield.
This was the Salvation Army
On the lines of each battlefield.

They were a different army,
And often would work alone.
A band of Christian soldiers
In a war they didn't condone.

Wherever war was taking place,
The Salvo's were always there.
Red Shield huts would appear,
With ?hop in' signs of care.

They had mobile canteens
To supply soldiers in need,
With water, tea and bickies,
Welcome refreshments indeed.

In Melbourne they celebrated,
In the year two thousand and one,
A hundred years of cuppas,
Thankful for a work well done.

The Red Shield's still in action,
Helps returned soldiers to adjust.
Continues in social welfare,
A peaceful army all can trust.

Dance In the Rain

DANCE IN THE RAIN

Come and let us wash all our cares away
dancing in this gentle rain together
to enjoy every moment of the day.

Join in with me, oh come and don't delay
this time we have will not last forever
come and let us wash all our cares away.

In mud puddles we can joyfully play
act like gleeful children being clever
to enjoy every moment of the day.

Showers continue down we dance and pray
giving grateful thanks for worries never
come and let us wash all our cares away.

These springtime showers that are on display
shimmering drops that sparkle together
to enjoy every moment of the day.

Precious is this child-like fun we now play
so join with us in this rainy weather
come and let us wash all our cares away.
to enjoy every moment of the day.

Exercise

EXERCISE
When I think about exercise
I'm inspired to join a gym class,
Then after taking a short rest,
That feeling just seems to pass.

When looking into the mirror,
To exercise I should make a start,
But thinking about it at my age,
It could be bad for my heart.

My teenagers need to exercise,
Run at least a mile every day
Then at the end of two weeks,
They'd be fourteen miles away.

An aerobics class may be fun,
Moving to music, properly trained,
But I heard reports of those classes,
How often an ankle is sprained.

Having seen others at the gym,
How they puff, grunt and perspire,
Agony written over their faces,
Leaves me free from any desire.

I'm happy for others to exercise,
So long as it doesn't include me,
I'd rather relax with my feet up,
While watching sport on TV.

Stress Diet

STRESS DIET

I've found a stress free planned diet,
It sounds so good I shall try it
Chocolate is claimed for calming the mind,
Eaten daily less stress I should find.

Breakfast to be chocolate spread on bread
A chocolate milk shake to clear the head
Lunch-time I'll try to be chocolate free,
And will wait until afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea cannot come too soon,
No chocolate eaten lunch-time at noon
I've now withdrawal pains in my guts
I need some chocolate raisins and nuts

At night I'll have a healthy dinner,
steak and vegies will be a winner.
Then follow with a cheesecake dessert,
a chocolate one made by an expert.

This diet's had a calming effect
It's more than I could ever expect.
No sneaking around chocolate to find
I've found a cure for a stress free mind.

If you're in need to become stress free,
Follow this plan that worked for me.
Eat chocolate, never miss out a day
it's the best food; what more can I say.

Beauty of Nature

BEAUTY OF NATURE
A butterfly on a flower,
It's a moment of pure delight
Testing the nectar with it's feet,
Colourful wings ready for flight.

A ladybird sits on a leaf,
Her red and black body so small,
Working at eating those bugs,
Who ruin plants, making leaves fall.

There's bees buzzing over a bush
All covered with pretty flowers,
Taking pollen back to the hive,
To make honey by the hours.

Ants scurrying to build their nests
They sense rain is on the way,
Each scene is joyful to ponder
The beauty of nature each day.
