Bright autumn sunlight
Ironing out morning chill
Dad lay still and cold

Sara Chansarkar Poem
I held the stumbling humanoid,
Standing on two feet, scared as an alien
I am his cradle and his playground
Even before he was named Homo Sapien.
Watched him crawl on hands and feet,
Watched him grow, move and trail
His mind having lost all its restraint
Unknown quest beckoned his first sail
Wandering unhinged in the oceans midst
Lost his color, lost his curl
Breathing the air on land unknown
Came back white as a polished pearl
Placed himself on a glittering throne
Uttered words, harsh and foreign
Ruling all with his reeking greed
Brandishing his spear, sword and the gun
Started digging my gut for diamond,
Chafing oil off of my skin
Pulling out my heart of gold
Making mules of his kith and kin
Chained his brothers, labeled for sale,
Subjected them to conditions sinister
Bent and flogged all their lives
Sisters raped at will of their master
I silently watched the macabre play,
Where no one but he smiles
My eyes oozing out warm tears
To fill at least a dozen Niles
Ate my arms and thighs for dinner,
Bathed me with blood each night
As he danced in a trance unashamed
But I Africa —I refused to die

Sara Chansarkar Poem
When life descends harsh, heavy and rude
Forcing us to sulk, complain and brood
I know the recipe for the perfect mood
A cup of coffee, a book and solitude
Shut the door to those voices that intrude-
Judgmental, astute, pious and prude
Pick someone from the book in the interlude
Feel, embrace and live her life with gratitude
The pretend-play works wonders for the attitude
Detachment from self leaves you ready and renewed
Clarity and purpose it gives to a head that’s confused
It definitely works, isn’t just another platitude

Sara Chansarkar Poem
Bright yellow badges proclaimed their faith
Paraded like nameless cattle
Counted and cooped as poultry
Numb and gelid they lay
Only thing alive
Was A desire
For a smooth
Kiss of
Death

Sara Chansarkar Poem
Indented by harsh waves
Injured by cold sharp rocks
Inflicted by failures
Irate at injustice
I come to you naked
Indolent, extinguished
Illuminate me Lord

Sara Chansarkar Poem
As I sit awhile at my kitchen window
And float weightless in the pond yonder
What if you and I were those geese?
My unmoored thoughts always wander.
Basking in the sprawling lap of nature
Soaking in curative warm sun’s rays
Waiting and looking out for each other
Turning our necks with easy natural grace
Me,following keenly your step and wade
Wanting nothing but your presence
Enamored with the haven of your gaze
Pure love-my life’s sole essence
On water, land or the limitless air
We could float away on our whim
And when furry goslings came along
We could teach them how to swim
Adrift,away in my mystical island
“Beep!” ,beckons broccoli in the oven rack
Naked cold of granite bites me hard
And once again reality snatches me back.

Sara Chansarkar Poem
They say I wait for you
Didn’t they see me vying
for another look at you
as they shut the oak wood casket.
They say I wait for you
But know that they are lying.
I don't save space on our bed for you
Just that, that side is sagged under your weight
They say I wait for you
I’m crazy, are they implying?
I don't launder clothes for you
Just that a half-full load isn't environmentally great.
They say I wait for you
That truth I am denying.
I don't set the dinner place for you
Just love how your plate matches my plate.
They say I wait for you
Why do they come here, prying?
To stare like I'm talking to the specter of you
Don’t they know you dozed off just after you ate?

Sara Chansarkar Poem
Tiny little birds perched on cattail stems
Enjoy the swings gentle breeze brings them
I aim my phone for a picture
Off they fly, irked at the gesture
Pardon me birdies, for creating mayhem

Sara Chansarkar Poem
Girl
Baby
Born last month
To brother’s wife
An ocean of joy to grandma,my mom
Were you so glad Ma, when my son was born
I dared to ask
Teasing her
Just for
Fun
Shush!
Stop it
Silly girl
Gulp down envy
She chided me like I was ten years old
